Facial bloating can have these reasons. -poor diet -dehydration -hyperthyroidism. -alcohol -it could be a delayed effect of mango hypersensitivity towards mango fruit can cause facial bloating. Keep a check on your diet and drink good amount of water. Stop eating mangoes. If your eating habits are fine, see a physician and get a thyroid test. Your sleep is less likely to be a reason here.

All About Acne and Scars

Diploma in Aesthetic Medicine, MBBS
Cosmetic Physician, Delhi
All About Acne and Scars

Acne is one of the most common skin problems. As many as one in two people suffer from the condition. Acne vulgaris is the most common type followed by acne rosacea and more severe acne conglobate. More boys than girls suffer from acne and it often co-occurs with the onset of puberty, as testosterone levels rise. It is likely that there is some hormonal involvement in the condition, yet dietary and environmental factors, stress and gut health can all cause acne.

It's a disease that affects the skin's oil glands. The small holes in your skin (pores) connect to oil glands under the skin. These glands make an oily substance called sebum. The pores connect to the glands by a canal called follicle. Inside the follicles, oil carries dead skin cells to the surface of the skin. A thin hair also grows through the follicle. When a follicle clogs up, acne grows. Acne is not a serious health threat, but it can cause scars.

How Does Acne Develop?

Sometimes, the hair, sebum, and skin cells clump together into a plug. The bacteria infect the plug and causes swelling. Then, as the plug starts to break down, it leads to acne. There are many types of acne. The most common types are:

  1. Whiteheads. A whitehead is a type of acne that forms when dead skin cells, oil, and bacteria become trapped within one of our pores.
  2. Blackheads. Blackheads are a specific kind of dark acne lesion, so-called because they contain oxidized melanin, the pigment made by skin cells called melanocytes.
  3. Papules. These are small pink bumps that can be tender.
  4. Pustules. This type of acne is red at the bottom and has pus-filled head.
  5. Nodules. These are large, painful, solid acne that are deep-rooted in the skin.
  6. Cysts. These are deep, painful, pus-filled acne that can cause scars.

Who Gets Acne?

Acne is the most common skin condition. People of all races and ages get acne. But it is most common in teenagers and young adults. An estimated 80 percent of all people between the ages of 11 and 30 have acne outbreaks at some point. Some people in their forties and fifties still get acne.

What Causes Acne?

The cause of acne is unknown. However, there are certain factors that might cause acne:

  1. The hormonal surge in teenage (this can cause the oil glands to plug up more often).
  2. Hormonal changes during pregnancy.
  3. Use of birth control pills.
  4. Heredity (if your parents had acne, you might get it, too).
  5. Certain types of medications.
  6. Greasy makeup.

Here are some tips for acne-affected skin:

  1. Clean skin gently.
  2. Try not to touch your acne affected area.
  3. Shave carefully.
  4. Protect your skin from sun-exposure.
  5. Choose makeup carefully.
  6. Shampoo your hair regularly.

What Can Make Acne Worse?

  • Changing hormone levels in teenage girls and women 2 to 7 days before their period starts.
  • Pressure from bike helmets, backpacks, or tight collars.
  • Pollution and high humidity.
  • Squeezing or picking at acne.
  • Hard scrubbing of the skin.

Acne Scars:

Acne may or may not lead to scarring. Some people are more prone to scarring than others. A person may have rather severe acne without a scar in sight. For others, even a benign little blemish can leave a depressed pockmark. Early treatment is the best way to prevent scars. If you are highly prone to scarring, see a Cosmetic physician or dermatologist right away to discuss acne treatment options. He or she can layout a treatment plan, to heal breakouts and prevent or treat scars.

Treatment of Acne and Scars:

Acne is treated by a cosmetic physician or a dermatologist. Treatment attempts to:

  • Heal acne.
  • Prevent new breakout.
  • Prevent scarring.

Acne requires a proper medical treatment and post acne care for dark spots/scars which are commonly associated with acne. If your skin is acne prone, you may develop dark spots and scars too. All these conditions can be treated. Apart from medical treatment which includes ointments for local application and oral medications if required, for long term benefits advanced treatments are available. These are, Chemical peels, RF therapy and enriched oxygen therapy. These are highly recommended. These treatments help acne as well as spots and scars.

Importance of Vitamin C in Skin Care

MBBS, MD - Dermatology, F.C.P.S.(Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy), Diploma in Venerology & Dermatology (DVD), DNB (Dermatology)
Dermatologist, Pune
Importance of Vitamin C in Skin Care

Vitamin itself stands for ‘vita’ means ‘important or vital’ and ‘amin’ means ‘substance’. Vitamins are essential for various body functions, and their deficiency can lead to severe problems. Vitamin C is one of the essential vitamins and has multiple benefits for the skin, hair, and overall health. Almost all food substances including regular vegetables and fruits contain some amount of vitamin C, and so it is rare for people to develop this deficiency. However, making sure there is sufficient vitamin C in the diet is very useful. Read on to know more about the skin benefits in more detail:

  1. Collagen: Vitamin C is essential for growth of the collagen which forms the connective tissue layer. A diet low in vitamin C produces dull, lifeless skin. Including vitamin C enriches the underlying layers of the skin, producing glowing, firm skin.

  2. Sun Protection: Vitamin C is very critical in protecting the skin against sun damage. When the sun is exposed to the sun, there is a release of free radicals, which is reduced with vitamin C. It is also rich in antioxidants which protect the skin from ultraviolet damage.

  3. Wound Healing: When there are wounds, vitamin C helps in quicker and better healing of wounds by producing ligaments and creating scar tissue.

  4. Blood Vessels: Vitamin C ensures optimal dilation of blood vessels and this helps in good blood flow to the skin. The skin glow and elasticity is largely improved when there is adequate vitamin C in the diet. Skin texture can turn dull and dry when there is less vitamin C in the diet.

  5. Bleaching Effect: One of the best natural remedies for fairer complexion is the regular use of lime. It reduces melanin production and melanin oxidation. It also reduces the incidence of melanomas, age spots, freckles, and protects from general photochemical reactions which lead to sun damage.

  6. Reduces Wrinkles: In addition to the other anti-ageing benefits, there are reduced wrinkles on the skin with a vitamin C-rich diet. This is due to the antioxidant property of vitamin C which ensures sufficient collagen formation and avoids intrinsic ageing. The photodamage effects are also reduced.

It is important to note that vitamin C absorption is reduced by smoking, cooking steaming, microwaving, and prolonged storage. It is advisable to consume raw fruits and vegetables and freshly cooked foods for maximum benefit. If your diet does not contain sufficient vitamin C, ensure you take supplements, which are available in the market in various forms.

Go ahead and ensure your diet is rich in vitamin C and see these changes for yourself. There also would be dramatic effects on overall health as you consume more of this wonder vitamin. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist.

Some donts: 1. Wash your hands frequently and try not to touch your face too often. 2. Keep your hair from falling on the face or forehead. 3. Avoid the use of make-up; try to let the pores breathe. 4. Don? t squeeze or pinch the pimples as the membrane gets ruptured and causes the sebum and bacteria spread. 5. Don? t wash your face more than twice because the more we wash the sebaceous glands become more active and produce more sebum. Remedies: 1. Instead of soap use powder made from dried orange peels or use a paste of fresh orange or lemon peels. 2. Apply fresh aloe vera gel on the pimples, it will soothe and heal the pimples. 3. Apple cider is extremely powerful cure to clear the pimple scars as well as pimples. Mix teaspoon in a cup of water. Apply gently on the entire affected area with cotton wool and leave overnight. 4. Garlic is an excellent cure for acne - a freshly sliced pod can be gently applied on the pimple or a juice of garlic can be used, and left on for at least hour. Although this stinks it is a pretty effective method. 5. The juice of mint leaves applied overnight for 2 weeks constantly will clear acne. 6. A blend of honey and limejuice can prove to help with constant you bysage. 7. Change your pillow cover every day so that the infection has no way of getting back to you. 8. Gently apply some ice on your face after a warm water bath so that the pores close.

For a sensitive skin you need proper sunprotectiona nd sunscreens only help if applied 15-20 minutes before exposure and depeending upon there type the effect last from 2 -3 hours then you need to reapply it. Iam 30 years old man I have some white spots on my body, its increasing now a days what I do?
white spots on body can be due to various reasons. It can b hereditary or due to use of some chemical agents, drugs, medication, trauma, contact with allergic agents, autoimmune diseases, age to name a few. It's very important that u take care not to injure ur self or that can leave marks. Any suspicious chemical agent such as creams, sprays, deodorants should be avoided. It's imperative to be relaxed or such a condition can worsen. Don't b anxious about anything for everyone faces anxieties and only the relaxed can get above. Diet rich in vitamin c and phytonutrients like anthocyanin namely lemon, orange, gooseberry vil scavenge the free radicals which damage the cells and produce white spots and patchs. If u have autoimmune diseases like pernicious anaemia, thyroiditis, alopecia areata, vitiligo, inflammatory bowel disease, it has to be evaluated and treated and it vil definitely respond to treatment
