Hi I am 35 Years old. Having snoring problem from last 3 year. So please suggest me a best treatment.

MS - ENT
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Rajkot
Do you feel nasal blockage? if yes, it may be the cause of snoring. Mostly people having snoring, have also sleep apnea, so you must go for a test called sleep study, by which we can diagnose a disease called sleep apnea. Send me the report of sleep study, so I can guide you further.

I have dns - deviated nasal septum, should I go for any surgery to remove it or go for any medication? will homeopathy work in this case? and someone told me to do yoga breathing exercise, is that helpful?

Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO), MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Guwahati
Dns (deviated nasal septum. As the name suggests, its obvious that there is deviation of septum. Septum is made of bone & cartilage parts, so again it is obvious that it can not be made straight by any of the medicine on earth. Surgery is must for correction if symptoms present. Symptom less dns has no role of surgery except cosmetic reason. Thanks.

I have suffering from cold from last 1 month and I also consult with doctor but I don't have good result with their medicine, actually I have a sinusitis problem since 1 year and now a day during my cold I have eyes pain problem what can I do? Is it cause by sinusitis or anything else?

DORL, MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Faridabad
And regarding sinusits main symptoms for maxillary sinusitis are thick nasal discharge, headache, watering eyes, forehead pain, recurrent infection of nose and mouth, post nasal drip, sinusitis, is nothing but a physiological disorder of nose which led by malfunctioning of aerodynamics of nose (temporary sinusitis, secondly it is because of repeated infections of the sinus (permanent sinusitis) sinuses regulations and air conditioning of the air which we breathe and to get the benefit of above we must have normal, well sized opened sinusitis and hence nose breathing is required, those who breathe from mouth, they have tendency to get more throat and lungs infections. Recurrent sinus infection, pollution, poor diet, spicy food, long term steam inhalation from nose, and allergies leads to thick discharge from nose. This thick mucus if stays in the sinuses, it leads to irritation of the sinus skin which is mucosa and this go on growing hence leads to permanent sinusitis this extra growth is called nasal polyps this is where patient needs surgical correction. If patient comes to nose surgeon at right time, doctor can revert his/her symptoms and surgery can be abandoned. Sinusitis if patient does not take serious steps to correct might lead to cardiac symptoms, lung diseases, etc. Once there are nasal polyps you have to go for surgery immediately.

I wanted to inquire for my mom about vertigo. The doctor has given her medicine for the same and asked to continue with the course for 3 months. But the effect of the medicine is very temporary. As in, the symptoms like loss of balance and blankness return as the effect of the medicine fades. Is this how the treatment proceeds. Is it normal or should the effect be more permanent?

Vertigo is a medical term which describes a sense of rotation even while stationary. It can often be confused with lightheadedness, generalised weakness, dizziness . Vertigo may be caused by problems in your peripheral (Ear &balance mechanism inside ear known as the vestibular system) or central nervous system. A complete checkup is required to isolate the cause. Peripheral vestibular  system causing vertigo symptoms may need initial medications to stabilise followed by Vestibular Rehabilitation  exercises. A good quality  of life can be achieved if properly managed. Basic investigations: A Pure tone audiometry  and tympanometry  can detect any problem in the ear nerves and tympanic membrane pressure (both of which can be abnormal in case of ear diseases) An Xray of the Cervical Spine (AP /Lat/Lat-oblique to check for cervical spondylitis CT brain and a complete  haemogram  are some of the baseline tests needed for a good evaluation  of vertigo. A cause of vertigo often difficult to diagnose is  BPPV Benign Paroxysmal  positional vertigo BPPV can be treated with Epleys manoeuvre  and Vestibular  Rehabilitation  exercises. With regular vestibular exercise you can be symptom free  and lead a normal life. You have not mentioned  whether your mom has Hypertension  ,DIABETES, Or any other problems.  Any blood tests done like PPBS, Thyroid function  tests, complete haemogram .Any history of head injury or neurological  problem?  Dizziness can be due to generalised weakness, Cardiovascular ,neurological or Ear-brain-balance problem. *Hope this helps Thanks

You maybe suffering from allergic rhinitis along with your nasal polyp problem. You need to avoid the cause of your allergies and also take anti allergy medications. Please consult for prescription. If you have an infection and have fever you will need to do a course of antibiotics. For now do warm saline gargle and steam inhalation 3 times a day. You will need to use a steroid nasal spray to control the size of your polyps.

I am having problem with my throat. Post pregnancy (delivered on Jan 2013) my thyriod levels aren't keeping well and as a result I have to stick to thyronorm tablets. For the past 6-8 months, my throat becomes soar whenever i speak a lot or consume cold items (very minimal consumption). As a result I also notice problems with my voice - it seems to be changing.

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS

This voice change can be due to ur thyroid problem.Get a fresh thyroid profile done so that dose of thyronorm can be adjusted accordingly.

I Am having throat infection and i got a swelling too in my neck. last week it happend the same. At that time i got medicine and fit for some days but now again i got the same problem what shloud i do ?

MS - ENT, DNB (ENT)
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Delhi
A swelling in the neck along with a sore throat suggests that you have a serious infection - the neck swelling is likely to be an enlarged lymph node. if the problem is recurring we need to find out why. maybe some blood tests as well as a throat swab would help in helping us treat this in a more permanent way. with regards

MS - ENT, DNB (ENT)

Nasal congestion with cold and headache could be because of a sinus infection. Drowsiness could occur if the nasal congestion is causing obsructive sleep apnoea. You will benefit from a thorough ent evaluation including a nasal endoscopy and a ct scan of the sinuses to come to a diagnosis. Once we know the nature of the problem we can start to treat. Regards.
