How many acupuncture treatments does it take to relieve stress? Is this something that needs continual treatment? My 5-year-old daughter has asthma. What is the effect of using an asthma preventer long-term? I heard that using it for years might cause bone shrinkage. Is it true? Are there any vitamins or supplements to help vision? What is chronic sinusitis?

There are several things you can do to prevent a cold. they are all easy. -Always wash your hands after coughing or sneezing into your hands, blowing your nose, after touching someone who is sick, or when using public restrooms or telephones. -Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. -Get plenty of rest/sleep.staying at home will keep you from spreading germs.Avoid people who have a cold or cold symptoms. -Drink plenty of fluids(veg/tomato soups, dal water/coconut water/herbal tea etc), and eat nutritious food(like sprouts/boiled eggs without yolk with milk). Avoid foods or drinks with caffeine which can impair your sleep -Treatment:A cold usually lasts for a week or two. Unless you develop complications, you shouldn't need medical treatment. -Complications like infections of the ears, throat, sinuses or lungs must be treated with antibiotics. -Gargle to keep from getting a sore throat. -Use saline nasal sprays or nasal irrigation. -Tablet nasorest-p once/twice daily may eas

Hi doctor. My age is 28. I got tuberculosis before 1 year. After 9 months of treatment everything is ok. Before my treatment I drunk and smoke regularly. After treatment I do not want to smoke. But I just want to drink alcohol. So can I drink 1 time per month. It is possible?

MBBS, DNB (Respiratory Diseases)
Pulmonologist, Mumbai
It is good that you don't want to smoke. Kick the butt (of cigarette) forever. In regards to drinking alcohol, It is not advisable in general but socially in limited quantity is ok. That said, your life is in your hands, drink socially and drink responsibly. Once a month is ok but drink 1-2 pegs only. Lastly, Congratulations on winning over tb.

Eat small but frequent meals. Avoid long gaps in between meals. Avoid junk as far as possible. Exercise at least 4 times a week. Lastly be committed. Remember it's a lifestyle change and not a one time thing. It's a balanced intake that will last you longer. All the so called diets will only give you muscle and bone loss. The fats will remain as it is. So, try to first follow this seemingly simple tips. I am sure it will at least help you with initial fat loss.

I am suffering a hard cough from last week. Pls suggest a relief from cough. When it will get cough I am getting heart pain please suggest me a answer.

M.D - Respiratory medicine
Pulmonologist, Hyderabad
Madam lybrate-user cough results in strain on your rib muscles which pain. Causes for cough could be cold, lung. Infection or gastric reflux of stomach acid due to spicy foods etc. If it is more than two weeks think of major infections or allergy of throat or sinuses or lungs. Please consult a physician. Other features may be missed if you do not consult a physician.

Hi I am 31 years old. I use to get frequent headaches for years and so I did MRI which showed mucosal thickening in the right maxillary sinus. But den I did not show this mri result to doctors. What does it mean and is there nythng to worry?

D.N.B, D.L.O
ENT Specialist, Bangalore
Hello lybrate-user just a mucosal thickening in sinuses on mri will not indicate you have sinusitis. So you shouldn't be worrying for sinusitis ct scan would be more precise than an mri. Only if on ct pns we have significant thickening blocking the route of ventilation of sinuses than it implies you are likely to have headache which requires intervention based on the severity. Also an nasal endoscopy would help. Headache can occur due to many factors other than sinus. Get also an eye checkup done. If you have allergy issues than needs treatment. If headache is with nausea than migraine needs to be ruled out. Also get blood test like haemoglobin, random sugar level tested. Still you can do steam inhalation twice a day if that improves the headache continue for a week. Take paracetamol for headache will give symptomatic relief.
