I have an upper left back pain that has been coming and going for about a year and a half now. It extends from the upper left trapezius muscle and I feel it on the vertebra. It comes at least once a day after standing for about an hour and I have to lie down on it and apply pressure on the muscle and the vertebra to get relief but that does not make it go away. I have also been taking ibuprofen almost daily now but that did not help. Please help me.

Hello lybrate-user, only putting pressure is not going to help you. Start doing stretching exercises for upper back everyday for 10 minutes minimum, so that the upper trapezius and spinal muscles are completely replaced and do not cause any discomfort.

Wall calf stretch Stand about two feet away from a wall. Place the ball of your right foot against the wall while your heel remains on the ground. Slowly and gently lean into the wall while keeping your knee straight. Hold this for the 10 sec with repetition of 3 times. Leg PainIf you have leg pain then you have to rule out the casues for having leg pain. First of all check your weight and your haemoglobin levels, as Anaemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having leg pain though there are no issues with the knee joint or back pain. If not if the pain radiates down the back of thigh and legs then it might be due to sciatica. Kindly consult the nearby physiotherapist. Hope you recover soon from the leg pain. Pain in the back while walking and standing Pain in the right legIf you have leg pain please check your body weight and your hemoglobin levels, as Anemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having leg pain though there may not be any pathological reasons for back pain. My suggestion would be to wear MCR Chapels which will help you to prevent the weight falling on the If you have back pain while walking and standing first of all check your weight and your hemoglobin levels, as Anemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having back pain though there may not be any pathological reasons for back pain. My suggestion would be to wear MCR Chapels which will help you to prevent the weight falling on the back. And also should check whether you have flat foot on the right leg that also might be the reason to have pain in one particular leg Pain in the left side of the leg/thighThe compression of the sciatic nerve should be around the right side that's the reason you have pain in the left side. That's the reason you cannot sit or stand and it is exactly around the L5 vertebrae where the sciatic nerve passes by.

Ankylosing Spondylitis the best suggestion to do general aerobic exercises which includes breathing and all the other exercises which involves the total movements of the proximal joints ie. Neck, shoulder, elbow in the upper limb and in the lower limbs, trunk, hip, knee movements which will facilitate to improve the normal range of motion of the joints thereby improving the blood circulation. You can also try swimming activity, tread mill, cycling etc.

I have slip disc 4 months before. Even now I have dull pain in the back but I am doing all my routine work. Is there ...
Hi Slip disc can lead to a discogenic back pain, can you also tell me apart from back pain, do you also have associated symptoms of leg pain, numbness, weakness paresthesias etc as well? if you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation.

I am 45 years old medium healthy female, housewife, busy with all household daily works and last 02 years suffering from more belly/stomach. Also earlier about 10 years before I had slip disc problem at l-4/l-5. Nowadays again severe backache I am facing. Please guide me and suggestion.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Well you have mentioned that you earlier were having same problem, but was it ok in between or do you have these symptoms off and on? also as you have also gained weight, the problems may intensify in the near future. Also degenerative changes in spine occur especially if disc spaces collapse because it increases overall pressure on facet joints of spine and adjacent discs as well. But my advise is that if your pain is still a localized lower back pain with no other leg pain, numbness or any other nerve related symptoms, then - start leading an active lifestyle which means daily walks for around 2-3 km in a day - intensive back exercises to strengthen your back muscles - abdominal strengthening and other general conditioning exercises - to maintain proper posture of your back at all times in a day - physical therapy with modalities can be done initially for some time although mainstay will remain your exercises - take anti-inflammatory medication for 5-7 days to get initial relief - maintain proper calcium and vitamin d intake also please get one digital x ray done and send both films and report to me x ray ls spine ( ap & lateral-flexion and extension views) do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards Dr. Akshay kumar saxena Consultant orthopaedics fortis hospital, new delhi.

I am 49 year old I am suffering from back pain I am having Fibroids in my uterus and I an in weight loss program.
Fibroids very very rarely is the cause of back pain. If you are nearing menopause and after menopause the fibroids would not cause any problem. Excessive menstraul bleeding is the most common symptom of fibroids. Coming to backpain, it could be due to Lumbar spondylosis. You may need moist heat to back and few back strengthing excercises to be done gradually. If condition does not improve, need to consult orthopaedic surgeon.
