Normally ACL tears don’t heal . If you have Instability then surgery would give the best result .

Based on your description your mother most likely has Arthritis in knees and may be Plantar fascitis Need to see X-rays of both knees and Foot.

At this age it's mostly muscular Physiotherapy would be sufficient. If you still experience pain would suggest consulting an Orthopaedic Surgeon.
