Doctor. Chicken pox is affected for my friends. Am now very afraid that it will cause me also. How can I make sure that it won't affect me?

MD - General Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Karimnagar
Hello lybrate user, chicken pox is a highly contagious disease, your friend needs to be isolated. If you people are staying at a hostel he need to be sent home. Chicken pox can get transmitted airborne through cough, sneeze. Transmissibility starts 2 -3 days before apperance of rash and lasts till the lesions crust. Avoid using common towels, proper hand wash to be done. But not everyone who are exposed will get this disease. So follow precaustions.

Dear lybrate-user, 1.It may gas distention trouble due to indigestion. Have simple bland food (Khichadi) for next few days avoiding junk, oily, spicy fried and deep-fried food items. 2.Drink lot of water. 3.Add Jeera, Ajwain, Sonth in your food items – these herbs prevent gas formation. 4.Reduce intake of tea – coffee. Instead you can have green tea. 5.Do not lye-down or sit immediately after having meals. Have a walk instead. 6.Maintain good bowel habits. Have more of Coconut Water, Gulkand etc to relieve acidity, Avoid too much of Cauliflower, Peas, Brinjals, Namkeens as snacks etc. 7.Do regular walking and mild exercises. You may also do a weekly fast – just to relax and calm down your system. Fasting also helps in cleansing of the system. Please update with your valuable feedback.

I am feeling feverish and some time vomiting and I am feeling pain in my left hand and I am not feeling well.

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
Fever is not considered medically significant until body temperature is above 100.4 F (38 C). Fever serves as one of the body's natural defences against bacteria and viruses which cannot live at a higher temperatures. Also, the body's defence mechanisms seem to work more efficiently at a higher temperature -Fevers of 104 F (40 C) or higher may be dangerous and demand immediate treatments like: -Acetaminophen (dolo-650 mg) twice or thrice can be used to lower a fever . Aspirin should not be used for fever in children/ adolescents or during a viral illness. -Wear loose fitting clothes and don’t overdress. Overdressing can cause temperature to rise further. -Tepid water (85 F [30 C]) baths may help bring down a fever -The body should be cooled with a wet sponge. -A fever can cause severe dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids.. Have citrus fruits, particularly Vitamin C rich ones like mausami, Amla juice etc. -Take light and easily digestible home cooked meals .avoid outside food -Wash hands frequently with soap and water especially after returning from public places or public transport. -Further therapy depends on the cause of fever like urinary infection/typhoid or malaria/dengue infection and the accompanying symptoms that need to be investigated and treated accordingly

I have acidity problem der is nothing happening in stomach but I have high problem of acid reflux and also upper body pain.

Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery, MNAMS (Membership of the National Academy) (General Surgery) , FAIS, FACRSI, Fellowship in GI Surgery, DNB (General Surgery), MBBS
General Surgeon, Delhi
Acid reflux is a severe form of acidity problem arising due to lifestyle issue. Reflux occurs when lower food pipe mechanism fails to prevent stomach contents from rising up to food pipe. Hiatal hernia is one of the cause. Need to undergo upper gi endoscopy and if diagnosed will required to be seen by gi surgeon. I normally do surgery for those patients with hiatal hernia with reflux who responds positively to anti reflux medications.

Yes it is alright to take isabgol as it is only husk. However it is better to get regular motion daily by drinking 3-4 liters of water, having a high fiber diet and exercise. If you have any further query please ask.
