It seems that your grandpa is suffering from a painful blind eye due to end stage neovascular glaucoma. At this stage, the treatment options are only to make the patient comfortable and prevent pain . Visual recovery is very very unlikely. He can try diode CPC as an option to reduce pressure. In case even that does not work, the removal of that eye might be the only possible solution

Hi doctors .i am suffering from myopia. Is there any sign that. Eye exercises can bring my eyesight back. Today my eye number is -2.25.

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Sangrur
There is no medication or food for improving eyesight or to get rid of glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser as your age is now 18 years so your number will not increase now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. As you are not comfortable with contact lens then go for lasik. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.

Diet for EYESIGHT Lutein and zeaxanthin are both important nutrients for eye health,6 as both of them are found in high concentrations in your macula—the small central part of your retina responsible for detailed central vision. More specifically, lutein is also found in your macular pigment – known for helping to protect your central vision and aid in blue light absorption—and zeaxanthin is found in your retina.Estimated daily dose of lutein is 10 mg per day, and at 2 mg/day for zeaxanthin. Both lutein and zeaxanthin are primarily found in green leafy vegetables, although zeaxanthin is far scarcer than lutein. Kale and spinach are two of the most lutein-rich foods, but you'll also find it in carrots, squash, and other orange and yellow fruits and vegetables. Both lutein and zeaxanthin are carotenoids called xanthophylls, which give plants and vegetables their yellow-orange color, and the name "lutein" comes from the Latin word "luteus," which means "yellow." If you remember this, it may help you pick out vegetables that are likely to contain higher amounts of these two nutrients. Egg yolk is another source of both lutein and zeaxanthin that is well absorbed by your body Most of the dark green leafy vegetables, previously recommended for a higher intake of lutein and zeaxanthin, have 15-47 percent of lutein, but a very low content (0-3 percent) of zeaxanthin. study shows that fruits and vegetables of various colors can be consumed to increase dietary intake of lutein and zeaxanthi It is also important to note that lutein is an oil-soluble nutrient, so if you eat the vegetables without some oil or butter your body can't absorb the lutein. Adding a little bit of healthy fat, such as olive oil, coconut oil, or raw organic butter, will maximize your lutein absorption. Lutein content in food Food Mg / serving Orange ( Raw) 0.2/1 large Egg 0.2/1 large Spinach (cooked) 20.4 / 1 cup Papaya(Raw) 0.3/1 large Turnip greens (cooked) 12.2 / 1 cup Green peas (cooked) 4.1 / 1 cup Spinach (raw) 3.7 / 1 cup Corn (cooked) 1.5 / 1 cup Broccoli (raw) 1.3 / 1 cup Broccoli (cooked) 0.8 / 1/2 cup Green beans (cooked) 0.9 / 1 cup

I had viral conjunctivitis two weeks back which got proper since I was on drops but after I stopped taking drops my eyes have become red and I feel irritated like something in eyes and on eye lids I'm not sure why it's happening please suggest. Drops was dexoren. Heard it's a steroid are they any side effects of this please advise. I was taking drops for twenty days 4 times 5 days 3 times 5 days likewise 2 n once.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology

Hello lybrate-user. Viral conjunctivitis is a problem which takes time (more than 2-3 months) to completely resolve. Viral conjunctivitis tends to cause lesions on the cornea which in turn lead to the symptoms of irritation, redness and foreign body sensation. The drops that have been given are appropriate and the dosing is accurate. In the dose prescribed to you, there is no risk of side effects if used as advised by the treating doctor. Long term persistent use (for a year or more) would cause side effects. So do not worry. For you, I have a few more suggestions regarding viral conjunctivitis. (1) be sure to wash your eyes 4-5 times day with clean hands and clean water in a gentle manner. (2) avoid rubbing your eyes with fingers, cloth, handkerchief, etc. (3) use a disposable paper napkin every time you feel discomfort in the eyes. (4) be patient. Visit your eye specialist regularly and follow the medication given to you in a disciplined manner. This will ensure that your problems are solved sooner than later. Hope my my suggestions helped you. Let me know if you require further help. Take care.

I use contact lenses fr daily use and by the evening the white portion of an eye goes reddish please give some tips.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
The symptoms described by you indicate that you are suffering from eye allergy due to contact lens use. It would be a good idea to discontinue the contact lens use at least for sometime. Contact lens induced hypersensitivity/ allergy has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few: (1) it may be caused due to over wear (use for more than 6-7 hours at a stretch) (2) overnight wear of contact lens. (3) improper hygiene of the contact lens. If handled with dirty hands, contact lens associated infection/ allergy may occur. Thus, hands must be thoroughly washed before handling contact lens. (4) likewise, the contact lens cleaning solution, if not handled properly, may cause major eye problems. It should not be used beyond its expiry date. Nor should it be over used (using the same fluid for 2-3 days!) now, the first thing you should start with is discontinue the contact lens usage. Subsequently, just go through the points mentioned by me. If you match any of the mentioned points, rectify them. You might want to consider changing the contact lens pair that you are currently using and start with a fresh pair.

MBBS, DOMS

Hi, It is not appropriate to prescribe eye drops without actually examining you. However, as a general guideline, you may use sodium hydroxy propyl methylcellulose eye drops, any brand, to keep your eyes refreshed. If not relieved, you shall anyway go to an ophthalmologist for your annual eye checkup.

I am using coloured contact lenses, it seems to be red in eye region during usage of lenses. What is the reason for this?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi. As some artificial thing comes in direct contact with the our eyes, it causes slight irritation, dilatation of the blood vessels and increased visibility of redness if the lenses are worn for long hours together! There are few more possibilities. You may have developed an allergy or sensitivity to the contact lens material, or the sterilising solution. You could also simply have developed a dry eye, in which case you should only wear your lenses briefly to begin with and try and build up the wear using lubricating eye drops that you can use with contact lenses. If your eyes become red, swollen, or if you experience discharge, you should contact an eye care professional immediately. Your symptoms may be a result of infection, or underlying disease and should be diagnosed and treated as soon as possible. In order for contact lenses to work the way they’re supposed to, it’s important to care for them properly, following the maintenance and replacement schedule. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines - Schwabe’s Belladonna 30 and Euphrasia 30 - both thrice daily for 4 days. Use Euphrasia Eye drops twice daily. Revert back thereafter.

Hi. I have eyes problem. My eyes has -20D in two eyes. It problem is natural. But when I am studying in class room on multimedia projector then automatically come headache in 2 minutes. Show I can't understand very well in lecture. So please share some advice.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology

Hello, the refractive power in your eyes is quite high. With such high refractive errors, it is bound to cause symptoms of blurring of vision, headache, discomfort, etc. You could consider refractive surgery though I am not sure whether it would be feasible for you or not. Also, even with refractive surgery, it is usually not possible to get rid of the complete error in cases of high refractive errors. Operations done to remove the refractive error (power) of the eyes are known as refractive surgery. There are certain basic criteria that most patients need to fulfill before they can safely undergo refractive surgery. To enumerate, they are: (1) stability of refraction: the power of the eyes should have become stable for a period of 1.5 years minimum without any change. (2) curvature of the cornea should be tested by a technique which is known as topography. (3) thickness of the cornea should be measured by a test known as pachymetry. The minimum thickness required is 550 microns. (4) dilated retina evaluation: this is one of the most important tests that should be performed by a trained retina specialist. This test helps in detection of any offensive lesion on the central or peripheral retina. In case of any retinal abnormality, these should be treated before undergoing the surgery for number reduction. (5) there should be no pre-existent corneal abnormality. (example: corneal scar, opacity, defect, etc.) another important suggestion is that whenever you go for the assessment (the above mentioned tests), you should discontinue the use of contact lenses at least 4 weeks prior to the assessment. The reason for this being that use of contact lens temporarily alters the contour of the cornea. It takes around 3-4 weeks for the restoration of the original corneal contour after removal of the contact lens. Another important point is that you, as a patient, should be compliant to put post operative medication in your eyes for at least 2 months. There is bound to be some discomfort, watering, foreign body sensation, pain after the surgery in most cases-you should be ready to tolerate that. A leave from work for 7-10 days after the surgery should be generally sufficient. Last but not the least, you should set realistic expectations from this surgery. Though extremely rare, there is a remote possibility that the surgery may need to be repeated. Also, the need for subsequent treatment for the eye may be required. Thus, you should be compliant enough to trust and follow your eye specialist. In case you have any other queries, feel free to contact me. Hope my suggestions help you, take care, regards.
