Dear Lybrateuser, - Whenever you start an activity first start with warm up for 5-10 min like if you want to jog, first do walking & gradually increase the pace, also increase the time & intensity of your activity after a week & build up to the target over a period of time - your pain could be due to muscular & other soft tissue problem, stop your activity till pain subsides - do hot fomentation of the affected area three times a day - apply pain relief gel three times a day - take a pain relief tablet after meals if pain is more - get your BP checked & ECG done if you are going to do vigorous activity.

Its not advisable to stop telma and atorva type med. In between and your physician would never advise you for that. However if you want herbal med as a supportive therapy, it may be taken and slowly switch to ayurveda mode to have a controlled bp. First of all take tarunikusumakar powder 1 tsp twice a day for a week then 1tsp once for a week then 1 tsp at night every alternate day for two weeks. Take with lukewarm water preferably. Yes even in hot season it is advised to take with lukewarm water for best results. As soon as you start getting relief in stomach related problems, please revert for further advise giving this reference. After info from you, I may advise for ayurvedic antihypertensive suitable to you.

I am over weight, I workout in gym and thinking of taking fat burner, but I have high bp problems, what should be done?

DNB Cardiology, MD - General Medicine, MBBS

I am over weight, I workout in gym and thinking of taking fat burner, but I have high bp problems, what should be done?
Hello lybrate-user, I would strongly advice you against taking any fat burner. Every fat burner works by increasing catabolism which would push the blood pressure to serious high levels putting you at the risk of stroke, heart issues and other serious problems. You are young and should take a more holistic approach towards losing weight which would be safe and permanent. If medication is something you are looking forward too, cetilistat, one which decreases absorption of fat from your meals would be far safer choice for you. It's taken 60 mg twice a day. You may get it fron any big pharmacy in delhi or otherwise get it from mumbai. Again no fat burners. Regards

this reports are not good for you...pl. consult near by doctor soon. Finding the Best High Cholesterol Treatment There's a lot of variability in how high cholesterol treatments work in a given person. Treatment that did wonders for your spouse may do nothing for you. Some of it depends on your genes. You and your doctor will need to come up with a custom-tailored approach. For most people, the first high cholesterol treatment to try is three lifestyle changes: Eating better Maintaining (or losing) weight Exercising more Some people, if they already have other risk factors -- such as diabetes -- may immediately start medication as well. While lifestyle changes can really help bring your cholesterol down, Wong says that not enough people give them a real chance. "The problem is that both patients and their doctors like immediate results," he tells WebMD. "Lowering your cholesterol with exercise and diet is just not like that." So try to give high cholesterol lifestyle treatments time to work. If they do, you can avoid the hassle of being on a daily medicine for the rest of your life.

My father has blood pressure problem. Since 5 months. How to control it. Suggest.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
My father has blood pressure problem. Since 5 months. How to control it. Suggest.
Hello, Few lifestyle changes can help your father in controlling and preventing the high blood pressure, even if if he is taking blood pressure medication. Here are the guidelines for him: Eat healthy foods. Consume more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish and low-fat dairy foods. Eat less saturated fat and trans fat. Decrease the salt in your diet. So, avoid eating processed foods, such as canned soups or frozen dinners which contains extra salt in it. Keeping a healthy weight, or losing weight if you're overweight or obese, can help you control your high blood pressure and lower your risk of related health problems. Increase physical activity which can help lowering your blood pressure, manage stress, reduce your risk of several health problems. Get indulged in regular exercising (if your doctor allows you). Limit alcohol. Even if you're healthy, alcohol can raise your blood pressure. If you choose to drink alcohol, do so in moderation. Don't smoke. Tobacco injures blood vessel walls and speeds up the process of hardening of the arteries. Reduce stress as much as possible. Practice healthy coping techniques, such as muscle relaxation, deep breathing or meditation. Getting regular physical activity and plenty of sleep can help, too. Monitor your blood pressure at home. Medication: Give him homoeopathic medicine - Schwabe’s Essentia Aurea/ thrice daily which is a cardio-tonic which helps in maintaining blood pressure, improves muscle tone of the heart and narrowing of blood vessels.

Brain Stroke - Things You Must Know!

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine, Fellow in Pain Management, DM - Neurology

Brain Stroke - Things You Must Know!

A brain stroke can affect anyone at any point of time when the supply of blood to the brain is interrupted. It can threaten major physical functions and can prove to be fatally dangerous at times. The brain stem which is placed right above the spinal cord controls the breathing, heartbeat and levels of blood pressure. It is also in charge of controlling some elementary functions such as swallowing, hearing, speech and eye movements

What are the different types of strokes?
There are three main kinds of stroke: ischemic strokes, hemorrhagic strokes and transient ischemic attacks. The The most common type of brain stroke is the ischemic stroke is caused by narrowing or blocking of arteries to the brain, which prevents the proper supplyof of blood to the brain. Sometimes it so happens that the blood clot that has formed elsewhere in the body have travelled via the blood vessels and has been trapped in the blood vessel which provides blood to the brain. When the supply of blood to a part of the brain is hindered, the tissue in that area dies off owing to lack of oxygen. The other variant of brain stroke is termed as hemorrhagic stroke is caused when the blood vessels in and around the brain burstor or leak. Strokes need to be diagnosed and treated as quickly as possible in order to minimize brain damage.

What are the common symptoms of a brain stroke?
The symptoms of the brain stroke are largely dependent on the area of the brain that has been affected. It can interfere with normal functioning, such as breathing and talking and other functions which human beings can perform without thinking such as eye movements or swallowing. Since all the signals from the brain as well as other parts of the body traverse through the brain stem, the interruption of blood flow often leads to numbness or paralysis in different parts of the body.

Who is likely to have a stroke?
Anyone is at a risk of developing brain stroke although ageing is directly proportional to the risk of having a stroke. Not only that an individual with a family history of brain stroke or transient ischemic attack is at a higher risk of developing stroke. People who have aged over 65 accounts for about 33 percent of all brain strokes. It is important to point here that individuals with high blood pressure, high blood sugar, cholesterol, cancer, autoimmune diseases and some blood disorders are at a higher risk of developing brain stroke.

There are a few factors which can increase the risk of developing stroke beyond any control. But there are certain lifestyle choices as well which aids in controlling the chances of being affected by stroke. It is crucial to refrain from long-term hormone replacement therapies as well as birth control pills, smoking, lack of physical activity, excessive use of alcohol and drug addiction. A brain stroke is a life-threatening medical condition, and when an individual has symptoms that resemble that of stroke, it is crucial to seek immediate medical help.

Treatment for stroke:

  • Treatment depends on the type of stroke.
  • Ischemic strokes can be treated with 'clot-busting' drugs.
  • Hemorrhagic strokes can be treated with surgery to repair or block blood vessel weaknesses.
  • The most effective way to prevent strokes is through maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

What is TPA?
TPA is a thrombolytic or a “Clot Buster” drug. This clot buster is used to break-up the clot that is causing a blockage or disruption in the flow of blood to the brain and helps restore the blood flow to the area of the brain. It is given by intravenous (IV). This can be given only within 45.5 hrs of the onset of symptoms

Time is brain

Remember Every second Loss means brain cells die.

Rush to the nearest Stroke Centre whenever you experience such symptoms.

You can save the brain cells dying if you reach within 45.5 hrs by the CLOT BUSTER.

Endovascular procedures:
Another treatment option is an endovascular procedure called mechanical thrombectomy, strongly recommended, in whichtrained  trained doctors try  removing a large blood clot bysending sending a wired-caged device called a stent retriever, to the site of the blocked blood vessel in the brain

Stroke prevention:
The good news is that 80 percent of all strokes are preventable. It startswith with managing keyrisk risk factors, including

  • High blood pressure,
  • Cigarette smoking,
  • Diabetes Atrial fibrillation and
  • Physical inactivity.

More than half of all strokes are caused by uncontrolled hypertension or high blood pressure, making it the most important risk factor to control.

Rehabilitation:
The best way to get better after a stroke is to start stroke rehabilitation ("rehab"). In stroke rehab, a team of health professionals works with you to regain skills you lost as the result of a stroke. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a neurologist.
