Dear , as in the case of any addiction, nicotine addiction also affects your depression slowly and systematically. Usually nicotine inhibits and influences gaba receptors of the brain which also controls and triggers serotonin. Because these are interdependent, the best option ios to stop smoking when you are under treatment for depression. The word depressed is a common everyday word. People might say" i'm depressed" when in fact they mean" i'm fed up because i've had a row, or failed an exam, or lost my job" etc. These ups and downs of life are common and normal. Most people recover quite quickly. With true depression, you have a low mood and other symptoms each day for at least two weeks consult a psychiatrist and get evaluated.

Dear lybrate-user. This feeling is actually called infatuation. You should understand the situation. You can engage in sex with the guy, but I will not advice it. You don't have to think about marriage now. Within few days, these obsessive thoughts will pave way for more serious career related thoughts. You are having' crunch' now. This is normal. Take care.

Hello, these days I feel very sleepy inspite of having 6 hrs of sound sleep. Whenever I sit for study I feel drowsy and sleepy. Also I am not able to concentrate in class as I sleep during lecture. Pls suggest something to overcome this problem. It's exam time.

First of all you should follow some basic thing 1. Avoid=hot and cold at time 2. Less the sugar as much as possible if you want to eat sweet take juggery which is black 3. Do not drink water after meal drink at the time of meal sip by sip up to 150 ml 4. Avoid late night sleep 5. Avoid to eat spicy food, besan, bekary food, overeating, junk food. 6. Every 3 day in month eat mung dal and rice for whole day.

Hi lybrate-user tips for weight loss follow a balanced diet. Eat more homemade food. Have 3 servings of vegetables a day start a day with health breakfast like king. Drink more water. Add a meatless meal once a week. Eat more whole grain. Switch from full fat dairy to low fat. Eat good & healthy fat. Have healthy snacks.

If you are feeling worthlessness, sadness and lack of hope than you may be suffering from depression. It is a debilitating condition that can prevent you from enjoying your life. Although it may be difficult to enjoy previous feeling of happiness. You can take control of your depression by increasing social support, changing your thinking and by increasing your physical health. These are the method to overcome it. 1. Talk to a psychologist /psychiatrist/therapist a psychologist or a therapist will be able to help you work through the issues you are going through at this time. He or she will also educate you about your depression and will further guide you the right line of action to be taken. 2. Spend time with positive people social support is crucial to getting out of a depression and can be very helpful for you to cope with stress full life. Support from positive people can also help to reduce negative thoughts that lead to depression. Please find those people in your life who make a positive impact on your daily functioning. Your friends, family members or co-members should be encouraging and you should enjoy their company. Please go out and do small small things with them [ like listening music, watching movies, walking, reading etc.]. Please create distance with people you know cause you anxiety or who are not supportive. Spending time with them will surely worsen your condition and make it harder to feel enthusiastic about recovery. Plan a short vacation with positive people. 3. Physical contact hug a friend hold hands play with your pet or dog 4. Always think positive and realistically negative thoughts are trademark of depression. This means you get struck thinking the same negative thoughts over and over again. Write down all the bad negative thoughts you have and create a positive thought for each negative thought you wrote down. For example I am ugly, please write I am unique and beautiful. I dont need any approval. 5. Compliment yourself for small small things. 6. Please avoid alcohol, cigarettes or any kind of substance abuse.

Dear lybrate-user, welcome to lybrate. Memory and mind power depends mainly on three aspects. Understanding, storage and recollection. To understand what you are studying, you must be able to be attentive or concentrate. Concentration is possible when you are interested in that subject. Creative way of learning can help you concentrate and understand easily. When you are able to understand and concentrate, it is stored within your brain. If you read more and more it will be store in long term memory. Third part is retrieval. Whenever you want to retrive what you learned and stored, your brain gets the request, searches the database and retrieves the information for you. The retrieval may prove to be difficult if you are anxious, stressed, worried or tired physically or mentally. Retrieval is more easy when you are relaxed and healthy. Brain needs nutrients to keep itself sharp. Fruits, vegetables and dry fruits provide much needed nutrients for your brain. Include at least one fruit in your daily diet. Physical exercises, entertainment, hobbies, relaxation, memory games like sudoku etc help keep your memory sharp and active. You may consult a psychologist.

Loss of interest, decreased concentration and attention, feeling low and disturbed sleep or appetite are some of the signs of depression. Consult a psychiatrist who will assess you in detail. If you are feeling suicidal or hopeless, seek professional help immediately. Try some relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation and deep breathing. Indulge in hobbies. Spend time with people close to you.

Dear doctor, im 19 year old male, a UG medical student, im facing problem of sleep, since from 12th class I usually study from 7pm to 4am. But after exams wen I want to sleep I will not get sleep upto 4am and after sleeping at 4am I wake up late morning and every time ill be late to the classes. Please doctor say me some solution and during class hours ill take 10min to 15min of nap for this problem. So, doc I want to get back to my normal sleeping awake cycle. What shud I do?

Hi Vishnu, Since you are a medical student yourself, you are aware of the Sleep and wake cycle of your body. The only way to get your normal cycle back is by starting to sleep at the normal time and try and wake up at the normal time according to your schedule. The most important part in this will be stick to your schedule. It will take atleast a week for your body to get used to this new cycle but it will happen.

You should go to speech therapist, but at the same time you can work on speaking in social situations. She must somehow have the medication, if it has been prescribed. Some of the patients can be difficult about taking medication for fear of some unfounded reasons: the dull feeling, the weight gain, the low energy, etc., which are some of the drug reactions. There are medicines to counter these drug effects and if she is convinced she may cooperate. If you can talk and reason out the facts with her then she might be convinced more readily. If not she can be taken back to the doctor who diagnosed her and let him do the explaining. The other alternative is to talk to her doctor and see if s/he is willing to give some medication which can be slipped into her food or drink without her knowledge. In the worst case scenario she can be told that she will be admitted into the hospital or institution, if she does not cooperate. But you must be very careful that she does not do something drastic out of the fear of force being used. So you will need to monitor her 24 hours for her safety. There are also long-acting injections for schizophrenia, which may be administered too but in the guise of treating some other problem. Do consult her doctor to see if s/he has any other ingenious approach.

Dear lybrate-user, alcohol is not the only solution for anxiety and to face winter. There are more options for anxiety - may be a relaxation exercise or yoga or cognitive behaviour therapy or anxiolytic drug for a short time. Think of each alternative with its advantages and disadvantages. Better you write them down. The same exercise for warming up in winter. Many options and each one's advantages and disadvantages. After this exercise, if you decide to stop using alcohol, if you can not practice it, please consult online.
