My hand got injured due to accident in the year 2001. I have no sensation in my thumb, index finger & middle finger. I had been operated once in the said year by an orthopaedic surgeon. But still, I don't feel any sensation in my above 3 fingers. My median nerve, radial nerve got damaged. Is it possible to get back my sensation after 15 years?

MD - Psychiatry, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Patna
Dear . Nerve injuries take many years to decades for recovery. It depends upon the gap in between to ends of a damaged nerve. Only few millimeters growth occurs in a year. It may take few more years to get your sensations back. I wish you all the best.

Hi, I am Dr. Saurabh gupta from max hospital and I would like to answer your query. Numbness with burning sensation in feet suggests neuropathy. The reason may be due to defeciency od nutrients or due to vascular compromise or due to any pressure effect. 1. So you can take multi vitamin supplements consisting of pyridoxine, methyl cobalamine with pregabalin. This supplements will help you in the prevention of symptoms. 2. Along with these you need to have nutritious diet consisting of fruits and green leafy vegetables and more fluids 3. Daily out door exercises (150 min per week). Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

My mother is suffering from brain tumour. It was diagnosed in 2008 and it was operated in 2009. So now my mother in not so conscious about the surroundings, keep on asking few things whole day like asking to give her biscuits whole day and so on. Her hairs are not grown till now and sometime she fall also while walking not because of any fits or seizures but due to walking imbalance. So our main concern is can we improve her position to previous state before the operation by some technology and we have heard a term neuro physiotherapy. Is that beneficial?

Hello, in my knowledge it can really help her, enhance and/or maximise the functional ability. Nothing is hundred percent guaranteed but rather than letting her be, it is better to get treatment done. Will be good for you and your family. Consult a neurologist before going ahead, there are other ways too, so it would be good to show her reports, history etc. To a neurologist and go ahead.

I am experiencing numbness in my legs after I sit for too long, but I am overweight too. What should i do?
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Numbness is usually a symptom of nerve involvement and nerves can get involved in a number of ways, so it can be involvement at the level of lower back region, entrapment of a nerve along its course, in a systemic disease like diabetes or other metabolic pathology etc. So management will depend upon treatment of primary cause, physical therapy like tens, medications for neuropathic symptoms like pregabalin or gabapentin, vitamin b12 supplementation etc. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

I am giving some health tips for Migraine headache •1.You can turn off light for some time •2.Apply hot or cold compresses to your head or neck. •Ice packs have a numbing effect, which may dull the sensation of pain. •Hot packs and heating pads can relax tense muscles. • •3.Warm showers or baths may have a similar effect. •4.You can take Tea or coffee( but not excess) 5.Sleep well Here are some tips to encourage sound sleep. Establish regular sleep hours. •Minimize distractions. •Your eating habits can influence your migraines. •Be consistent. Eat at about the same time every day. Don't skip meals. Fasting increases the risk of migraines Avoid foods that trigger migraines kindly consult Physician for further management
