Dear lybrate-user For homeo treatment you should send me the details as there are so many reasons of migrane. Nonetheless, there are therapies you can try at home to relieve your migraine pain, 1. Drink water 2. Drink caffeine as Caffeine can restrict blood vessels, it can lessen pain, it’s a constituent of some pain over-the-counter pain medicines, but it can also trigger headaches for some people,” Grosberg said. “If someone uses caffeine excessively, it can cause a rebound headache, making existing headaches worse.” 3. Tying a headband around the head 4. Fish oil Enthusiasts claim that fish oil reduces inflammation and works by restricting the blood vessels in your temples. Grosberg said there's no sound evidence, but he recommends trying it. 5. Peppermint oil Rub it on the part of your head that hurts. 6. Eat ginger or take ginger capsules.

I have mild scalp numbness or pin like sensation on the right side of head alone. I feel this whenever I comb or run my hands in that area. What could be the causes? History: Had a loop ileostomy 6 years ago that was closed within 3 months. The ileostomy had been put temporarily to treat abdominal TB and adhesion. Otherwise have been healthy and normal for past 6 years.

If you don't have any facial weakness/ drooping of difficulty in closing eyes then there is no need to suspect facial palsy and there is no need to do mri brain.

Dear lybrate user, pinched nerve also called disc herniation, if in neck then also called cervical radiculopathy. The treatment depends on current pain, extent of compression and grade of herniation. If it is mild protrusion without neuropathy then conservative management should be sufficient. Many times it is not, then image guided epidural advised for immediate relief, modulation of nerves and disc. If there is bigger protrusion or protrusion with neuropathy, you might be advised nucleoplasty or endoscopic discectomy and in advanced stage of herniation open spine surgery advised. What you can do is consult interventional pain specialist trained with advancement or orthopedician trained in spine for evaluation and further treatment. Regards.

Dear Doctor. I have burning sensation in my Both thighs and very recently I have diagnosed with meralgia paraesthetica, which causes the burning sensation. I have done my nerve conduction study. Currently having gabapentin and not felling fully recovered. Is a surgery a good option? Will doing a surgery gives me 100% recovery from meralgia paraesthetica? Please advice me.

For meralgia paraesthetica, only conservative rx & physiotherapy is needed. No surgery is helpful, still need to see patient clincially. Gabapentin is good medicine & some supportive medicine can go longer but it may helpful.

Press the neck muscles, & over the head, temple[sides]] of forehead] in circular, clockwise, & anti clock wise way. Doing this daily also will show effect in reducing the intensity & frequency of the attacks of ha. Take plenty of water[better to take minimum 1 litre of lukewarm water in morning with empty stomach is better for all purpose]. If you find any relation with any food or any stress related thing that causing you getting, then try to avoid that like sun exposure. Have good sleep. Practicing daily pranayama, breathing exercises also will help in best way. Take lemon & ginger mixed tea r warm water to get relief from this pain, for that time being.

I am 30 years old. I am suffering from migraine. Kindly suggest. What should I do?

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Migrane can be managed with lifestyle changes and medications, try muscle relaxation exercises. Relaxation may help ease the pain of a migraine headache. Get enough sleep, but don't oversleep. Get an adequate amount of sleep each night. It's best to go to bed and wake up at regular times, as well. Rest and relax. If possible, rest in a dark, quiet room when you feel a headache coming on. Place an ice pack wrapped in a cloth on the back of your neck and apply gentle pressure to painful areas on your scalp. It is very important keep a headache diary. Continue keeping your headache diary even after you see doctor. It will help you learn more about what triggers your migraines and what treatment is most effective. A dose of riboflavin in appropriate dose as prescribed by me, also may prevent migraines or reduce the frequency of headaches. Coenzyme q10 supplements may decrease the frequency of migraines, magnesium supplements may also be used to treat migraines do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.
