From 10 years I m using optical my optical no Is R-3.50, L-3.00. What should I do to remove optical.

Hello lybrate-user. Operations done to remove the refractive error (power) of the eyes are known as refractive surgery. There are certain basic criteria that most patients need to fulfill before they can safely undergo refractive surgery. To enumerate, they are: (1) stability of refraction: the power of the eyes should have become stable for a period of 1.5 years minimum without any change. (2) curvature of the cornea should be tested by a technique which is known as topography. (3) thickness of the cornea should be measured by a test known as pachymetry. The minimum thickness required is 550 microns. (4) dilated retina evaluation: this is one of the most important tests that should be performed by a trained retina specialist. This test helps in detection of any offensive lesion on the central or peripheral retina. In case of any retinal abnormality, these should be treated before undergoing the surgery for number reduction. (5) there should be no pre-existent corneal abnormality. (example: corneal scar, opacity, defect, etc.) another important suggestion is that whenever you go for the assessment (the above mentioned tests), you should discontinue the use of contact lenses at least 4 weeks prior to the assessment. The reason for this being that use of contact lens temporarily alters the contour of the cornea. It takes around 3-4 weeks for the restoration of the original corneal contour after removal of the contact lens. Another important point is that you, as a patient, should be compliant to put post operative medication in your eyes for at least 2 months. There is bound to be some discomfort, watering, foreign body sensation, pain after the surgery in most cases-you should be ready to tolerate that. A leave from work for 7-10 days after the surgery should be generally sufficient. Last but not the least, you should set realistic expectations from this surgery. Though extremely rare, there is a remote possibility that the surgery may need to be repeated. Also, the need for subsequent treatment for the eye may be required. Thus, you should be compliant enough to trust and follow your eye specialist. Hope my suggestions help you, take care, regards.

I see eye floaters from past 8 years but now From last 2-3 years I thinks its increasing. Or something like that. And left eye twitch every time I go for sexual pleasure. I want to know reason for that. Is there any problem with my eye as I have to go for LASIK.

MS - Ophthalmology, FICO, FRCS - I & II
Ophthalmologist, Mathura
Hello before lasik complete eye check is done specially of retina. In high myopia there can b floaters due to liqification of gel behind lens. If retina is healthy do not worry and ignore these floaters. Eye twitching is related to stress most likely.

Sir, when I am going into contact of sunlight so in my eyes itching start and become red eyes.
Hi, hello, one can protect the eyes from the sun by the following points: - avoid going out during hot summer weather or extreme heat during the whole day. - apply a good sunscreen with spf 30. Apply it 20-30 minutes before stepping out. Re-apply the sunscreen if you are out for more than 3-4 hrs. - wear a hat with a broad rim or carry an umbrella. - wear wrap around goggles with protection from uv-rays - keep well-hydrate by drinking plenty of water (10-12glasses of water in a day, but if exposure is more, keep adding the more water). - eat healthy, home-made, nutritious and balanced food; avoid outside food, high-caloried and junk food. - eat more of vitamin a, increase intake of seasonal fruits with yellow or red colour and green leafy vegetables. - keep your eyes blinking frequency which prevents drying of eyes. - get 6-8 hrs of sleep at night and if tired, give them rest during daytime. Sleep rejuvenates the eyes! - never ever rub the eyes, be gentle with them. - wash your eyes with plain water - keep slices of cucumber our the eyes medication: use homoeopathic eye drops - euphrasia/ 2-3 times a day daily.

Dear lybrate user, red eyes could be because of many reasons but commonly it is due to allergy or infection. You need to visit eye specialist to differentiate between the two as the treatment is different. Also get your eyes checked for any glass power. also sometimes it takes longer to get cure, ,,so continue medicines as per your eye doctors prescription and follow up with him

There is no medication or food for improving eyesight or to get rid of glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser as your age is now 20 years so your number will not increase now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. As you are not comfortable with contact lens then go for lasik. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.

You have not mentioned your age if your age is more than 21 yrs ,your myopic power is not going to increase . Myopic power increases upto 21 yrs of age because body growth in male gets completed by 21 yrs. There is no direct medicine to improve vision but it you can take lots of green vegetables.-3D is considered very normal power, maximum increase in myopic power takes place between 13 yrs to 21yrs in male because maximum body growth takes place between these periods in male.

Hi doctor I am tmanna my mom is eyes are red every evening last two months what she does please tell me.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Hi doctor I am tmanna my mom is eyes are red every evening last two months what she does please tell me.
Eyes appear red because the vessels at the surface of the white portion of the eye (sclera) become swollen. Vessels may swell due to: • Eye dryness • Too much sun exposure • Dust or other particles in the eye • Allergies • Infection • Injury Eye infections or inflammation can cause redness as well as possible itching, discharge, pain, or vision problems. These may be due to: • Blepharitis: Swelling along the edge of the eyelid. • Conjunctivitis: Swelling or infection of the clear tissue that lines the eyelids and covers the surface of the eye (the conjunctiva). This is often referred to as "pink eye." • Corneal ulcers: Sores on the cornea most often caused by a serious bacterial or viral infection. • Uveitis: Inflammation of the uvea, which includes the iris, ciliary body, and choroid. The cause is most often not known. It may be related to an autoimmune disorder, infection, or exposure to toxins. The type of uveitis that causes the worst red eye is called iritis, in which only the iris is inflamed. Homoeopathic medicine EUPHRASIA 30 ( Dr Reckeweg) Drink 2 drops direct on tongue every 2-3 hrly CINERARIA /EUPHRASIA EYEDROPS ( SBL ) pour into eyes 1-2 drops 3 times daily Wear Goggles in Sunlight/Polluted areas.

How you can relax your eyes after working on the Computer all day

MD in Ophthalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
How you can relax your eyes after working on the Computer all day

In today’s world, most of the work that you do is on your computer. With an increasingly digitized world, computers can’t be replaced. Though they have made your work easier, they do come with certain disadvantages as well. The rays emitted by a computer screen can be harmful to your eyes if exposed for an extended duration.

It is important that you take certain precautionary measures to protect your eyes:

1. Wash your eyes: Wash your eyes on a regular basis; it facilitates cooling and relaxation of the eyes. Make it a routine to wash your eyes at least 5 to 6 times in a day.

2. Get computer glasses: Use computer glasses to protect your eyes as they help to minimize the effect of the radiation from the screen. If you work for long hours in front of the computer, then you should consider getting a pair of computer glasses.

3. The position of your screen: The screen should ideally be positioned at an arm’s length and the viewing angle of the monitor should be around 35 degrees. Make sure you position your chair accordingly keeping these tips in mind.

4. Eye exercise: You should exercise your eyes to reduce the strain and relax your eyes. Follow the 20-20 rule wherein after working on your computer for 20 minutes, you redirect your gaze to an object that is around 20 feet away. This helps your eye muscles to relax and thus, improves your eye health.

5. Don’t work at a stretch: Take breaks in between your work sessions to reduce fatigue in your eyes. Constantly staring at a screen for an extended amount of time can cause problems in your eye. Take 2 minute breaks for every 30 minutes you spend working on your computer. This helps to reduce the strain on your eyes also helps to release tension in the muscles of the neck and back.

6. Blink more than usual: Blinking moistens your eyes and causes tear production which does not allow the eye to suffer from dryness. It also prevents eye irritation and helps in clearing out dirt from the eyes. If you wish to discuss about any specific eye problem, you can consult a specilized opthamologist and ask a free question.

Hello. I think you have allergic conjunctivitis. 1. Eye allergies, called allergic conjunctivitis, are a common condition that occurs when the eyes react to something that irritates them (called an allergen). 2. The eyes produce a substance called histamine to fight off the allergen. As a result, the eyelids and conjunctiva (the thin, filmy membrane that covers the inside of your eyelids) become red, swollen and itchy, with tearing and burning. The key to treating eye allergies is a. Avoid or limit contact with the substance causing the problem. B. Avoid rubbing eyes instead do cold compresses. Use antiallergic eyedrop along with lubricating eyedrop. This will help you I am very sorry dear to say that there is no medicine that can cure allergy. Only way is to stay away from all those things that you are allergic to.
