It might be of plantar fascitis do not worry have ust physiotherapy treatment for 10 days of 15 minutes duration along with hot water with rock salt into it for fomentation thrice a day for 7 days of 15 minutes duration followed by normal water fomentation for 5 mins.

I am a man of 55 year And I am suffering from back pain since 2 years. What should I do?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Since your history of symptoms are of 2 years duration, there definitely seems to be a bit of degeneration setting in spine. Do you also suffer from radiating leg pains, any associated numbness, weakness or electric shock like sensations in legs? my advise initially would be: - to maintain proper posture while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home 3-4 times in a day with bottle or diathermy belts - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Massage with your thumbs from the mid points of the shoulder blades on both sides towards the lower back of your head up to lower level of the ears. Use oil or water for massage. Rotate your head clockwise and anticlockwise, forward and down, left and right a few times. Do for 5 to 10 times morning and evening. Give pressure the dipping point on the portion between the thumb and the index finger on the back of the palm. Press and release for 15 times where the pain is more. This will solve the problem. Further do some wrist rotation exercise. Consult after 5 days. For further guidance and treatment.

Can you tell me whether you had any twisting injury to your knee region? Also you have not mentioned whether you have pain, swelling, any instability etc in the affected knee? How can a Physiotherapists helps you in backpain?
A physiotherapist is a special health care provider who has specific knowledge of body structures related to spine, i.E. Muscles, ligaments, bony vertebrae, discs, alignment of spine, force distribution etc. Physiotherapist is specially trained to treat disorders of musculoskeletal conditions like  back.He uses many modern approach to treat backpain and help you to avoid  any future back problems.

What are the reasons causing backpain?
There are many reasons behind an episode of back pain.Sometimes you have an injury or a pull and hurt your back.As time passes by structures will heal by itself and you get relief from pain.
But there are some complicated reasons like poor posture, obese, poor habits in working, faulty bending and of course age is a main cause of back pain in  aging discs of our spine.

Some people experience only pain but have sensory problems also, so what does this mean?

In young healthy persons our spine is strong and capable of withstand any disturbing force which causes back, unless person has an injury or a specific cause to it.As the injury heals pain automatically goes down.
But in person with tasks like long sitting, poor postural habits, tearing of disc, spine loses its ability to withstand these forces and so loses its anatomical configuration slightly in the form of body adjustments like bony beaks, which sometimes press passing nerves from spine so we have sensory feelings of pain.

I have backpain, should I go for MRI or CT scan?
MRI or CT scans are special investigation prescribed by healthcare provider to make a strong diagnosis.These are not usually advised in every backpain.
An X ray can be advised to check for bones and disc of spine.

Is Heating pad  are enough to cure backpain?
Heating pads are advised to decrease pain and spasm. They are usually advised but for decreasing pain and uncomfortable which is the first reason of visit to a physiotherapist.
Specialized manual therapy and stabilization exercise, kinesthetic awareness etc  are important in back rehabilitation program .

My age is 70. My knees a little painful. Have to climb stairs using left leg and descend using right leg. Secondly when I stand for longer time or walk slowly then my outer side of thighs get pin pricks. What can I do?

Do not sit for long time, you can take break of 10-15 mins in duration of 2-3 hours. Sit in good posture, it can help you better.

. Apply Hot Fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural Correction- Sit Tall, Walk Tall. Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Back Stretching- lie flat, pull one of the knee forward to chest, hold for 3 seconds, then bring the other knee forward to the chest and again hold for 3 seconds. Then pull both knees towards the chest and hold for 3 seconds. Repeat 10 times each exercise twice a day. Do the cat/cow stretch. Get on all fours, with your arms straight and your hands directly under your shoulders; your knees hip-width apart..

My dear, pain in leg is a postural defect. You need to correct your sitting posture while going for study. Sit on a table rather than to sit on bed. Try to move on for 15-20 mints while sitting on study table. Go for aerobic exercise, suitable for legs for 20 mints. Homoeo medicine @ arnica mont 200-6 pills, thrice a day. @ rhus tox 200-6 pills, thrice a day. Ensure, sound sleep for 6/7 hrs. Do not skip your meal, it should b on time regularly. Report after a wk, take, care.

You can have tab. Zerodol Mr. Along with maxidol/dfo gel for local application. Also you can have calcium 500mg once at night with milk and also get one vitamin d3 injection injected. Thanks.

You pain in your shoulder region is only since 2 days for which no specific management is required if there is no significant history of any injury or any other s/s of inflammation or infection like swelling, skin redness or local warmth etc. You can start with ice packs, anti inflammatory medications which suits you, avoiding physical activities and observe for a period of 5-7 days, if your symptoms are getting better, then it's ok otherwise we will have to investigate you further. Hamstring Stretch Lie on your back with your left leg flat on the floor. Loop a towel or rope around your right foot and pull your leg as far as comfortable toward your chest, while keeping a slight bend at the knee. Keep your back pressed to the floor throughout the stretch. Hold for 10 to 30 seconds and then release. Repeat 3 or 4 times with each leg. Do this stretch 5 or 6 times a week. Short-Arc Knee Extensions In the same starting position as the straight-leg raises, put a ball (about the size of a basketball) under your left knee so that your leg is bent. Slowly straighten your leg. Hold, then slowly lower. Repeat with your right leg. Exercises To Avoid A few of the following exercises can be done safely if you have chronic knee problems; they're on this list because they're more likely to be done improperly. The exercises above are safer, while still giving you similar results. •Full-arc knee extensions •Lunges •Deep squats •Hurdler's stretches.
