I hv diagnosed HyperThyroid since 2 year Taking the medicines mentioned below Are harm full?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. Lybrate-user, usually for hyperthyroidism, anti thyroid medicines are given 18 months to 2 years and stopped. Some times thyroid function returns to normal. If not, if hyperthyroidism continues then other means of treatment are looked at. Which include taking radio active iodine or getting surgery done. There is no mention about medicine or the dosage of it in your query. If you are looking for specific advise, then please give details like current thyroid test details and drug being taken with dosage and come in a private conversation, then I will be able to give specific instructions. Thanks.

Goodbye Diabetes !!!!!

M.Sc - Dietitics / Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Ulhasnagar
Goodbye Diabetes !!!!!

You can overcome your diabetes by gaining some knowledge about what to eat and what not.

1)Completely stop consumption of sugary foods, artificial sweetness, canned juices and any other sweet preparation.

2)Start substituting your wheat flour with bajra/jowar flour/whole wheat flour to reduce your glucose intake.

3)Include a plate raw veggies before your meal to increase your fibre content as it helps to lower down your sugar levels.

4)Substitute your meals with red or brown rice instead of white rice to increase fiber.

5)Flaxseeds (not to roast) are an excellent source of fibre n omega 3 fatty acids n are known to reduce your glucose levels naturally.

6)Cinnamon tea is one of best remedies to reduce your insulin dosage as it contains chromium pincolate which diverts the glucose from the food we get to the muscle cells n must be taken after dinner.

7)Drinking of kokam water before meals (soaked in water for two hours)
Helps to bring down your sugar levels and is a natural cure for diabetes.

8)Fruits that have high glycemic index are not recommended like mango, chikkoo, custard apple etc

9)Lastly exercise for at least 50mins a day is a key to achieve good health.

Your present treatment seems to be fine. But it would be best if you take glucobay 50 along with food thrice a day. And not before food.

Quest" What is the initial symptoms of diabetes? How can be people be alerted from such type of diseases.
Mr Sonu, Diabetes mellitus usually does not produce any symptoms, that is the reason many people do not come to know that they have diabetes. When fully developed it can cause excess urination, excess hunger, excess thirst, unexplained weight loss and tiredness. Only way detect diabetes is to do a blood sugar level check.

Please tell me diet on uric acid. how to maintain it.?

MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
Endocrinologist,
A high uric acid level can be caused when your body either produces too much uric acid or your kidneys don't eliminate uric acid rapidly enough. A high uric acid level may cause increasingly frequent attacks of gout, or it may never cause problems. A high uric acid level may also cause some people to develop kidney stones or kidney failure. And some people with a high uric acid level also develop high blood pressure, heart disease or chronic kidney disease, but it's often unclear whether this is a direct cause or merely an early warning sign of these conditions. Factors that may cause a high uric acid level in your blood include: Diuretic medications (water pills),Drinking too much alcohol,Genetics (inherited tendencies),hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid),Immune-suppressing drugs,Niacin, or vitamin B-3, obesity, psoriasis, Purine-rich diet — organ meat, game meat, anchovies, herring, gravy, dried beans, driedpeas, mushrooms and other foods Renal insufficiency — inability of the kidneys to filter waste Tumor lysis syndrome — a rapid release of cells into the blood caused by certain cancers or by chemotherapy for those cancers,Also, you may be monitored for high uric acid levels when undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer. Avoid protein diets, avoid more milk products. bad habits , fast food/fat/oily,salty foods. Coffee, smoking, alcohol intake. Non-veg., take whole grain, oats, green veg.,plenty of water in day time, 1 glass of water at night before bed. Take tab. Zyloric 100 mg once a day. Tab. Ulracet sos for pain in joints.

Do thyroid in male age 25 causes frequent urination and what are the symptoms, natural remedies.
Mr. Lybrate-user, usually hypothyroidism does not increase urination. This symptom is more often seen when there is urinary tract infection or a person has diabetes. Symptoms of hypothyroidism are: weight gain, slow heart rate, intolerance to cold, swelling of face and lower limbs, early fatigue, constant tired feeling, sleepy feeling, joint pains, dry skin, dry hair and hair fall, anxiety, depression, in females menstrual irregularities, excess flow, difficulty in conception. There are no natural remedies. Only treatment option is to supplement thyroxine hormone as this is a deficiency disorder. Thanks.

How to keep the blood sugar in normal without medicine.
Main problem is i'm very lazy to do exercise.
Mr. Lybrate-user, if you do not have diabetes, but if family history of diabetes is there, then you need to take precautions so as to avoid developing diabetes in future. One to avoid that is by adapting modified life style- which means taking a balanced diet, avoiding sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, other bakery items, sweetened aerated drinks (colas), avoiding highly processed food products, fructose corn syrup containing products, high fat containing milk products and red meat. Consume a good deal of green leafy vegetables and salads. Use whole grain food products than refined foods. Also refrain from alcohol and smoking. Regular exercise of at least 1 hour so as to maintain normal weight, (your bmi is 24.91 kgs/m2). If this is done then diabetes can be prevented or onset can be delayed. Thanks.

Dear Lybrateuser, - You can control your blood sugar & reduce weight by dietary modifications & by doing regular exercise - increase your fibre intake by having more of fruits & vegetables including green leafy ones & other seasonal ones, have whole grains instead of processed foods beans, sprouts, legumes, pulses, these will provide you with energy & keep you full - try to combine a carb with a protein like cottage cheese, peas, yogurt, tofu, soy product to keep your blood sugar stable - restrict fried, junk, processed foods, sweets & aerated drinks, also only 1-2 cups of tea, coffee per day - have 4-5 small meals including snacks rather than having three large meals, chew your food well, restrict portion size, be regular in your meal timings, do not skip meals - for your BP take adequate water & 8-10 glasses per day sprinkle a pinch of salt on your food, do regular exercise like brisk walking, jogging, swimming for 30-40 min, do moderate weight lifting at least twice a week, also do yoga for 5-10 min in the morning - check your weight, BP once a week, also check sugar, cholesterol regularly.
