I have got severe pain in my teeth from last 2 days and I have a cavity too in my premolars what should I do?
Kindly get an x-ray done of the tooth having pain. May be you will have to get root canal treatment done followed by a crown or cap. Till then you can take a pain killer like tab dentaforce dt 2 tablets dissolved in water. Brush your teeth twice daily using correct brushing technique to maintain your oral hygiene. Kindly get the cavity filled before it becomes deep and painful.

Hello! Whenever a tooth develops cavity that reaches pulp and affects its vitality, leading to infection and severe tooth pain, there are only two options available. First, to sabe the tooth bh Root Canal treatment and second, to remove the tooth by getting it extracted. Nowdays, single sitting RCTs are done and the procedure is almost painless. Better consult a dentist, preferably endodontist and get the RCT done. Delaying treatment will only accentuate your problem.

I brush twice in one day but I still have bad breath how can I reduce it? What is the reason behind this?

I brush twice in one day but I still have bad breath how can I reduce it? What is the reason behind this?
Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

All About Hyperdontia

All About Hyperdontia

Hyperdontia is a peculiar and quite rare dental problem which involves the growth of excess number of teeth. It can appear during birth and last till the primary teeth fall out to be replaced by the permanent set of teeth, or appear with the rise of the permanent teeth. If a person shows a tendency to grow more than 20 temporary teeth or more than 32 permanent teeth, he or she suffers from hyperdontia.

Where do the additional teeth occur?
The additional teeth or supernumerary teeth can appear anywhere inside the mouth or dental arch, but the most common ones are called wisdom teeth and they grow as anterior molars after a certain age. Extra teeth in new born infants are called natal teeth. Occurrence of more than 4-6 supernumerary teeth is rare, although there have been known cases of more than 30 supernumerary teeth.

Why does hyperdontia occur?
1. Hyperdontia often occurs in association with a few select disorders like cleidocranial dysplasia, Ehler - Danlos syndrome, Gardner syndrome, and cleft lip and palate.
2. Although the exact cause of hyperdontia has not yet been discovered, some studies have shown that it might be a result of over activity of dental lamina during the phase of tooth development in infancy.
3. It could also possibly be due to genetic or environmental factors.

What problems does it pose and how can hyperdontia be corrected?
1. The existence of extra teeth often causes problems in speaking.
2. It may also cause deformation in the mouth region, and impediments in a lot of other functional activities like eating.
3. In rare cases, the extra tooth/teeth may be agents of tumors or cysts.
4. Therefore, treatment must be swiftly undertaken so as to remove the extra teeth and prevent rise of further teeth in the same spot.
5. Sometimes, hyperdontia also leads to overcrowding and misshapen rows of teeth; this can also be corrected with extensive procedures.

The toothbrush cannot reach the spaces between the teeth the gumline. So, for the removal of plaque and tiny food particles from these spaces, proper flossing on a daily basis is necessary.

Diabetes and Dental Health

Diabetes is a degenerative disease, which affects your metabolism. As a result of metabolic irregularities, every part of the body is affected. The following are early indications of untreated diabetes:

In addition to the ones above, the following are associated symptoms:

  • Blurred vision
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Slow healing of cuts
  • Itchy skin

How can diabetes affect your mouth?

  • Diabetes increases the risk of infections and delayed regeneration of damaged/dead cells. As a result, fungal infections like thrush may develop in your mouth.
  • Because of poor healing of wounds as a result of diabetes, extensive gum damage may occur.
  • Periodontitis is a severe effect of diabetes in which your gums begin to move away from your teeth, leading to a formation of pockets between your gums and teeth, which fill up with pus and germs. The damage can be stopped only with gum surgery and removal of affected teeth.

Prevention

The single most effective way to prevent damage to your teeth is to actively control blood sugar content by regularly taking medicines and following a healthy diet recommended by your doctor. Common methods of dental protection go a long way to help prevent oral problems because of diabetes. These include:

  • Brush thoroughly and carefully after every meal (wait 30 minutes for food acids to neutralize, and then brush as this helps in effective cleaning)
  • Use non-alcoholic mouthwash to treat dry mouth and disinfect the oral cavity
  • Floss at least once everyday
  • Use a soft bristled toothbrush
  • Remove your dentures and clean them regularly. Do not sleep putting them on
  • Quit smoking, chewing tobacco and chewing gums with sugar in them

Sir/Madam, I have a swollen gum. For that, I wash my mouth with a lukewarm water added with salt for twice a day after brushing my teeth with a soft bristle brush. Do you think is that enough, or do you prefer any other home remedies? (I didn't feel pain at normal times. There is no bleeding. But while taking any hard type food, I feel little pain. I feel a small hole at the joining point of gum and teeth)

Swollen gums are because of plaque and calculus beneath your gums, normal brushing and rinsing your teeth won't help cure this problem. Get your teeth cleaned by a periodontist. Cleaning along with root planing has to be done. Then continue with salt water rinses.

Scaling or professional cleaning of teeth and gums is a very important procedure which should be done at least once a year. It keeps gum healthy and teeth strong. IT DOES NOT WEAKEN YOUR TEETH.

Hello regaining color is little difficult as tetracycline stains are intrinsic that is they are from within. Else the best and definite solution is to mask the stains with the emax laminates.

Dear lybrate-user, nerve block treatment is generally safe if performed by a qualified practitioner. Any treatment can have its side effects. You should ask your treating doctor to explain the procedure and its side effects to you. You should also ask your doctor any questions and doubts you have. Your doctor knows what is the procedure to be performed. To understand your problem in detail I would like t have your symptoms and reports in detail. You may consult me or have a second opinion by a qualified practitioner.
