Doctor, I want to ask about Hypertension. I mean I guess I am suffering from it, I am 17, my body gets heated up In different situations like, when I get scared or when I get angry. Last year I took some pills from gym I don't know what was that, gym trainer said that these are mass gainer so I tried them, eventually I understood after taking first pill that these were strong, because I ran at least 20 times to washroom in Night, and next day I threw the rest of pills, but that pill did his work it showed it's effect in my kidneys, somehow I cured it by ayurvedic medication, and now I am getting this heat problem, and now I don't want any medication if it's Hypertension, so is it hypertension or anything else, and I read an article online that was about Hypertension that you should do weight lifting exercises, and in another article there was that don't do gym do breathing exercises, So what should I do.

Hello. The medicines which you took from gym could be steroids, which trend to increase adenaline in your body, causing euphoria and increased work capacity. But it has other effects too, like rise in heart rate, blood pressure, epigastric discomfort. Bone disorption, increase in salt and water retntion. I advise you to discontinue it. Its very rare to get hypertension at your age. Weight bearing exercises are good for muscle strenghthening and bones, breathing exercises for mind, body relaxation, also would of help for controlling your anger.

Mr. Lybrate-user, it is seen that after quiting smoking some weight increase occurs. However, if you have diabetes then regular exercise must have been advised. If you had continued that plus diet control the weight would have remained in check. It essential to control weight for sugar control. If you have no discomfort in exercising then do regular workout and reduce the weight.

My father is a heart attack patient so what diet should he follow ?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath,
My father is a heart attack patient so what diet should he follow ?
following diet guidelines will help you Cut down salt (common table salt) intake in your diet to avoid hypertension. Intake should not exceed more then 2 to 2.5 gm a day. ? Avoid foods rich in cholesterol: ground nut oil, ghee, butter, whole milk, eggs, lard (fats derived from pig meat), tallow (fats derived from goat or sheep mutton), oily fish, meats and red meat ? all non-vegetarian food contain cholesterol in varied amount. ? Avoid non-vegetarian food especially red meat. ? Increase intake of foods that contain PUFA`s (poly unsaturated fatty acids): flax / linseed oil is the richest source of PUFA`s. Other oils that contain PUFA`s are safflower oil, soybean oil, sesame oil, mustard oil and olive oil. As all oils are high in fats, its consumption should be limited. The intake of oils should not exceed 20gms a day. ? Sesame oil and almond oil hinders the absorption of LDL (low-density lipoproteins), so it is advisable to use / replace other cooking oils by sesame oil. ? Increase your intake of water. ? Take high fiber diet - whole grains, bran, oat, green leafy vegetables, peas, beans, potatoes, raw vegetables, salads, dried fruits and fresh fruits. ? Cut down the intake of sugar and other sweeteners. ? Avoid fat-rich portions of flesh foods. Instead have lean meat. ? Avoid fat-rich desserts and fried snacks like cakes, pastries, puddings etc ? Instead of frying food boil, steam, grill or roast food. ? Avoid coffee and caffeinated drinks, junk food ? pizza, burgers etc. ? Consume food rich in magnesium: ? Nuts and sea food, green leafy vegetables, sea plants like Japanese sea plants, whole grains Peas, lotus stem, pulses, legumes and oil seeds ? Increase intake of vitamin C, it maintains the elasticity and integrity of the artery walls. ? Citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables. ? Eat vegetables- cabbage, broccoli, spinach ? Reduce calcium intake (reduce but do not completely avoid calcium as it is needed for maintenance of our body):- ? milk and sea food, nuts, green leafy vegetables, whole grains, peas, lotus stem, pulses, legumes and oil seeds ? Should avoid custard apple and banana as they are high in calcium.

My blood pressure everyday low. So pls tell me sir what can I do. Waiting your answer.

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Bangalore
Depending on the reason for your low blood pressure, you may be able to take certain steps to help reduce or even prevent symptoms. Some suggestions include: Drink more water, less alcohol.  Alcohol is dehydrating and can lower blood pressure, even if you drink in moderation. Water, on the other hand, combats dehydration and increases blood volume. Follow a healthy diet.  Get all the nutrients you need for good health by focusing on a variety of foods, including whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean chicken and fish. If your doctor suggests using more salt but you don't like a lot of salt on your food, try using natural soy sauce or adding dry soup mixes to dips and dressings. Go slowly when changing body positions.  You may be able to reduce the dizziness and lightheadedness that occur with low blood pressure on standing by taking it easy when you move from a prone to a standing position. Before getting out of bed in the morning, breathe deeply for a few minutes and then slowly sit up before standing. Sleeping with the head of your bed slightly elevated also can help fight the effects of gravity. If you begin to get symptoms while standing, cross your thighs in a scissors fashion and squeeze, or put one foot on a ledge or chair and lean as far forward as possible. These maneuvers encourage blood to flow from your legs to your heart. Eat small, low-carb meals.  To help prevent blood pressure from dropping sharply after meals, eat small portions several times a day and limit high-carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. Your doctor also may recommend drinking caffeinated coffee or tea with meals to temporarily raise blood pressure. But because caffeine can cause other problems, check with your doctor before drinking more caffeinated beverages.

I have very fast rate of heartbeat. What should I do?

DNB Cardiology, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
Cardiologist,
I have very fast rate of heartbeat. What should I do?
Dear , fast heart beats are due to abnormal electrical circuits inside heart. You needs to see an arrhythmia specialist (electrophysiologist). We can investigate you by ecg, holter monitoring, and if necessary by ep study for palpitations. Such fast heartbeats can sometimes be dangerous, so it is necessary to investigate further.

How to control high blood pressure if it occurs immediately and no medical facility is available.
Hi. Sudden rise in blood pressure, if no medical facility is available, you should calm down first. Be relaxed and silent and avoid any king of physical activity. Ask for someone to come and help you, arrange ambulance or other means and transfer to nearest hospital or clinic. This is best. Avoid smoking, smoke, coffee tea or any other food till you see a doctor. Take care.
