Causes, Types and Symptoms of Crohn's disease

Causes, Types and Symptoms of Crohn's disease

One of the more severe illnesses included in the larger group of diseases known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn's disease is typically a long-lasting, chronic condition. The intestine or bowel, most commonly the colon and the lower part of the small intestine, are either marked by sores or get inflamed and ulcerated. It is a common occurrence in adolescents and in young adults.

Crohn's disease is subdivided into five types, each having its own set of symptoms:
1. Ileocolitis: The most common type, it affects the colon and the ileum and results in considerable weight loss as well as diarrhea and cramps.
2. Gastroduodenal Crohn's disease: People who suffer from this type of disease have their stomach and duodenum affected and many experience symptoms like nausea, loss of appetite and weight loss.
3. Crohn's colitis: This involves only the stomach, and can cause joint pains, rectal bleeding, skin lesions and diarrheas,
4. Ileitis: This type affects the ileum and the symptoms are identical to those of ileocolitis.
5. Jejunoileitis: In this type, the jejunum gets affected and general symptoms include the formation of fistulas, diarrhea, intensive back pain as well as areas of inflammation.

Causes
Despite the uncertainty as to the nature of the specific causes of Crohn's disease, there have been a few possible causes which have been identified. These include:
1. Immune system problems
2. Genetic disorders
3. Environmental factors
a) Certain edibles
b) Viruses or harmful bacteria
c) Smoke

Symptoms
The primary symptoms of Crohn's disease include the following:
1. Diarrhea: This can occur for about 10 to 20 times a day in more severe cases.
2. In rare cases, there may be blood in your stool.
3. In more intense cases, you may even develop a fever.
4. Cramping and intermittent belly pain.
5. Anemia, due to a reduction in iron levels caused by bloody stools.
6. Weight loss.
7. Erratic appearance of small tears in the anus, called anal fissures.

It needs to be checked thoroughly as the black stools might be due to some blood (bleed or injury inside ). Visit a doctor and let him diagnose. Go for some tests (CBC, ESR, Liver profile) and USG of abdomen if required. Follow up later with the reports. As a precaution change you habits and adapt a healthy life-style.

If you are a strict vegetarian and not taking milk or its product very regularly then it could be just due to vit b deficiency. You can take 15 days course of vit b. Even then if its not cured then you need homoeopathic medicines to get rid of it

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello ULCERATIVE COLITIS (UC) is a disease in which the lining of the large intestine (colon) becomes inflamed. This inflammation leads to the formation of raw sores, or ulcers, causing pain and bloody diarrhoea. UC usually begins gradually with bloody diarrhoea, rectal bleeding, cramps or pain in the belly, and growing urgency to move the bowels. Depending on which area of the colon is affected, the stool may be normal or hard and dry. Homoeopathic medicines Merc Sol, Merc Cor, Sulphur and Phosphorus are a few of the important ones used in treating ulcerative colitis.Selection of homoeopathic remedy is based on totality of symptoms of individual patient. So please send your symptom details for the right prescription.Thanks.

ACIDITY :SO SIMPLE REMEDIES

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
ACIDITY :SO SIMPLE REMEDIES
Here are tips to prevent Acidity/heartburn/GERD.
-Relax and eat food slowly;Take time to eat- don't rush. Avoid skipping breakfast.
- Eat smaller meals;Don't overeat
-Limit fluids intake during meals. As it increases stomach distension.
-Avoid foods and drinks that trigger acidity (e.g. Fatty ,Spicy foods, onions, garlic, peppermint, chocolate, coffee, tea, citrus fruits or juices, tomatoes, cola or alcohol)
-Stop smoking. & Avoid alcohol;Try meditation, stretching or deep breathing instead
-Wear loose-fitting clothes.Tight clothes or belts can constrict your stomach.
-Lose weight; Extra fat places pressure on abdomen, pushing gastric juices up
-Do daily exercise.like walking; It keeps you upright, allowing gravity to aid digestion
-Don't lie down after eating.Wait at least 2-3 hours after meal before sleeping. Avoid late night snacks .Elevate the head end of bed by 6-8 inches. Sleep in left lateral position.
HOME REMEDIES:
-Chewing gum after meals. stimulates saliva production, which neutralize stomach acid .Herbal Tea improves digestion and soothe gas and nausea. Take low fat milk.
-Dried ginger ,dried fennel or Ripened guava can speed up digestion of food
-Juices-Citrus drinks such as orange, tomato juice ,grapefruit, and pineapple juice are very acidic and can cause acid reflux. Other juices like apple, carrot, aloe vera,-are less acidic and thus safe..
-TREATMENT:
-Antacids: for mild symptoms, like SUCRAMAL/DIGENE/Mucaine gel, may give relief. Other antacids, such as Gaviscon, create a protective foam barrier that coats the stomach
-Proton Pump Inhibitors;for severe cases, these reduce acid in the stomach.ie:Pantocid –DSR/Sompraz-D/Rabicip-D.These are taken once/twice daily before meals.
