My face get patch like appearance each winter season. What may be the reason for it?
Patchs can b dark or white.each has different causes and treatment. It can b hereditary or due to use of some chemical agents, drugs, medication, trauma, contact with allergic agents, autoimmune diseases, age to name a few. It's very important that u take care not to injure ur self or that can leave marks. Any suspicious chemical agent such as creams, sprays, deodorants should be avoided. It's imperative to be relaxed or such a condition can worsen. Don't b anxious about anything for everyone faces anxieties and only the relaxed can get above. Diet rich in vitamin c and phytonutrients like anthocyanin namely lemon, orange, gooseberry vil scavenge the free radicals which damage the cells and produce white spots and patchs. If u have autoimmune diseases like pernicious anaemia, thyroiditis, alopecia areata, vitiligo, inflammatory bowel disease, it has to be evaluated and treated and it vil definitely respond to treatment .

Firstly, don't worry or u vil lose more hair.wash scalp with kenozol shampoo thrice weekly.Hair fall could b significant or just physiological without any systemic involvement. Firstly, don't stress over it. Meditate. Practice yoga. Relax yourself. Stress vil increase your hairfall. Drink two litres of water. Eat plenty of pulses, meat, fish and milk. Avoid hair cosmetics. Wash hair twice or thrice a week. Shampoo should be done to wash dirt, dust and grime and not for anything else. Don't use dyes, bleaches or straighteners. Massage scalp to improve circulation. After a bath, don't blow dry your hair instead naturally dry hair. If any scalp infection, get it treated. Any allergy should be taken care of.

Hello there, I am Ajay. How to open the pores of the scalp blocked by sebum? Please suggest me on this.

Dermatologist, Delhi
Hello there, I am Ajay. How to open the pores of the scalp blocked by sebum? Please suggest me on this.
Choose hair products formulated to treat sebum build-up on the scalp. While ordinary shampoos won't do the trick, these special formulas work to soften, loosen, and eventually release the built-up. There are both over the counter products and natural remedies that you can use to help remove excess oil treat clogged hair follicles. Clarifying Shampoo Regular shampoos are meant for everyday use. However, if you have a build-up on the scalp, clarifying shampoo will get it completely clean. Use a weekly clarifying product like Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo. It treats an overabundance of sebum, removes products sitting on the scalp, and unclogs the hair follicles. Brushing/Massaging the Scalp and Hair helps to massage the scalp, distribute oils to the rest of the hair shaft, and reduce the amount of sebum build-up. There are many other benefits as well, including improved hair texture and reduced frizz. You may also apply home remedies like tea tree oil, Apple cider vinegar, baking soda etc. Depending on what you have done to remedy the condition of your scalp (and how serious the situation is), you may need to make an appointment with your doctor. Poor nutrition and the use of certain medications may be affecting your hair health. If the scalp is burning or itching excessively, it is recommended to see a dermatologist or your primary care physician.

Please let give me a advice how to remove dandruff and tell me that how to regrowth hair on sides of the head.
Hello, Although dandruff can sometimes be caused by a fungal infection or other skin disease, in most cases it is produced when the scalp doesn’t receive a sufficient supply of blood. Consequently there is a lack of protein in the skin, which becomes dry and flaky. Dandruff may also be due to a deficiency of vitamin B-6, or to an excess of vata dosha, which also makes the skin dry. Try these effective home remedies to fight dandruff: NEEM OIL: To improve circulation to the scalp, massage for a few minutes daily with neem oil (in a sesame oil base). If a fungal infection of the skin is causing the dandruff, the neem oil, which has disinfectant properties, will help heal this also. EGGWHITES: Another option is to use some eggwhite mixed with lime juice. Put two eggwhites in a small jar or container with the fresh juice of one lime, mix together, and apply to your hair. Let it stay in your hair for a half hour, then wash the hair with neem soap. The egg-white will provide the scalp with the lacking protein, and the dandruff will soon disappear. FENUGREEK: Soak 2 tablespoons of fenugreek (Methi) seeds in water overnight. Grind it to make a paste and apply it on the scalp. After 20 minutes wash it off with shikakai or any other herbal shampoo. This is one of the oldest and most effective remedy in treating dandruff. BEET ROOT: Mix beetroot juice with a little ginger juice and apply on the scalp for 20 minutes and rinse it off. This helps in controlling dandruff. CASTOR OIL: Castor oil helps with hair regrowth and hair loss and many other hair and scalp problems. Castor oil has a thick consistency, so you can mix it with coconut oil, olive oil or jojoba oil in a half and half ratio. This will make the mask easier to distribute throughout your hair. Use your fingers or a brush and start applying it onto your scalp with circular motions. This gentle massage increases the blood circulation, rejuvenates the hair, and stimulates hair growth. DIET: Healthy hair and scalp depend upon a nourishing diet. Lastly include fresh fruits, soups, salads, yogurt and sprouts in your diet and drink 10-12 glasses of water everyday. Avoid fried foods, spicy foods, Carbonated drinks and sweets as much as possible.

Acne / pimples occur mainly due to hormonal imbalances which causes an overproduction of oil and cells inside a skin follicle. They block the opening of the skin pore and cause the follicle under the skin to swell and become red.  There are many over the counter medications available in pharmacy but you need to use skin products which are most suitable to your skin. Avoid taking anti-acne medications without knowing your skin type.. Treatment of acne includes medicines to reduce the breakouts, use of skin products such as face wash, cleansers, moisturisers according to your skin type and a whole range of  procedures like peels, laser therapy to reduce the current outbreaks and clean the skin, extract blackheads and whiteheads and clean clogged pores. They are safe and do not harm your skin in a long run.

Women's Hair Loss, Thinning Hair Causes and Solutions

Hair Is Tied to Self-Image

Long, short, bouncy, sleek -- for most women, hair is far more than a bundle of fiber. It's an expression of style and personality. Research also suggests hair and self-image are closely intertwined. If an occasional "bad hair day" can make a woman feel bad, hair loss can be a distressing sight to face every morning in the mirror.

How Hair Grows

The average scalp has 100,000 hairs. Each follicle produces a single hair that grows at a rate of half an inch per month. After growing for two to six years, hair rests awhile before falling out. It's soon replaced with a new hair, and the cycle begins again. At any given time, 85% of hair is growing, and the remainder is resting.

How Much Hair Loss Is Normal?

Because resting hairs regularly fall out, most people shed about 50-100 strands every day. You'll typically find a few in your hairbrush or on your clothes. Abnormal hair loss can happen in several ways. You may notice dramatic clumps falling out when you shampoo or style. Or your hair may thin slowly over time. If you're concerned about changes in your hair, check with your doctor.

Finding the Roots of Hair Loss

Hair loss in women can be triggered by about 30 different medical conditions, as well as several lifestyle factors. Sometimes no specific cause can be found. As a starting point, hair loss experts recommend testing for thyroid problems and hormone imbalances. In many cases, hair will grow back once the cause is addressed.

When There Is A Need For Chemical Peels?

MBBS, MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy
Dermatologist, Pune
When There Is A Need For Chemical Peels?

Not many of us like the image that stares back at us in the mirror. We all would love to have those wrinkles gone, the dull appearance improved, the fine lines disappear, the spots (brown, black, gray, whatever) just vanish. However, they don't. They are all real, but the good news is that they are not here to stay. There are improved methods of producing younger, glowing skin and chemical peels is one of them.

In 2011, it was rated as one of the top 5 minimally invasive procedure with about a million people in the USA going for it to revitalize their skin.

What do they do: You could be of any age or gender, looking for a youthful, glowing skin. Chemical peels definitely are an option for you. The skin is the most exposed part and is prone to damage from sun, pollution and dust. These leave uneven tone, dull skin, wrinkles and spots. In all these cases, a chemical peel can produce a marked improvement. A chemical preparation (solution) is applied on the skin which dissolves and removes the upper layers of the skin and allows for new skin to form. This is younger looking, softer, and smoother with fewer imperfections. The strength of the solution and the duration of application will depend completely on the patient's presenting situation and goals.

Benefits of chemical peels:

  1. Reduces fine lines and wrinkles: Unlike creams and serums and lotions, these offer a much faster way to achieving smoother, clearer skin.
  2. Improves skin tone: The rough, top layers that were exposed to sun are removed, producing skin with improved texture.
  3. Promotes collagen production: The skin is made to produce more collagen, which results in skin that has better elasticity and glow.
  4. Eliminates scars from acne: The damage done by acne through scars left behind can be 'peeled' off with a chemical peel.
  5. Improves damage from sun exposure: Exposure to sun is most harmful to skin, and chemical peels help reduce this damage by removing off the top layers of skin that is affected by constant exposure to sun. Mild dark spots also disappear with a chemical peel.
  6. Economical: Compared to the expensive creams and lotions that make huge promises, chemical peels are definitely cost effective.
  7. Quick fix: A session takes about 30 minutes with no need for recovery time.
  8. Boosts self-esteem: A smoother, glowing skin that is free of spots, wrinkles, and fine lines is sure to improve the person's confidence.

Following are the Indications for Chemical Peels:

  • Treatment and Prevention of Acne
  • Pigmentation
  • Anti-aging
  • Sun-induced Pigmentation
  • Tanning

Chemical peels can be done on face, back, arms and legs, feet. elbows and knees, knuckles to even out pigmentation and smoothen the skin. Post care precautions are simple to follow-up avoidance of direct sunlight for first 4-5 days, strict application of sunscreen and keeping skin hydrated regularly.

A detailed discussion with your doctor about expectations is definitely the first step if you are thinking of going for a chemical peel.
