Root Canal Treatment

Master of Dental Surgery
Dentist, Gurgaon
Root Canal Treatment

The treatment to save and repair a badly infected or damaged tooth is known as Root Canal Treatment. The backbone of the procedure includes removal of the pulp which is the damaged region of the tooth, disinfecting and cleaning the pulp and finally sealing the area. The common problems that affect the pulp are a deep cavity, cracked tooth, pain or recurring dental treatment. The nerve of a tooth is not absolutely important for tooth’s functioning and health after it has emerged through the gums. Its only purpose is sensation – whether an item is hot or cold. It is not required for daily functioning.

Damage to the pulp or nerve tissue of a tooth can break it down and cause bacterial growth which in turn leads to an infection and an abscessed tooth. The abscess is a pocket that is filled with pus which is formed at the base of the roots of the tooth. Additionally, infection at the root canal can cause:

1. Loss of bone at the tip of the root.

2. Swelling that might spread to other areas of the face and body

A typical root canal treatment, which happens over a few office visits, involves the following steps:

1. X-Ray: In case you need root canal treatment, X-rays might be taken or previous X-rays could be checked in order to locate the area of decay.

2. Anaesthesia: Administration of local anaesthesia is administered to the infected tooth.

3. PulpectomyThe diseased tooth is removed by making an opening at the area.

4. Filling: The opened roots are filled using gutta-percha material and sealed off using cement.

I have a ulcer problem. yesterday I had headache and fever. What medicine do I have to take?
Usually ulcer heals by itself only within 1 week. You can take 'Becosule capsule' once in a day for 1 week for faster recovery. Temporarily you can apply mucopain gel over ulcer for relief..

For more white teeth, you can go for bleaching and whitening procedure. Brush your teeth twice daily, night brushing is very important. Floss regularly. Rinse after every meal. Hello Mr. lybrate-user! Although your blood sugar levels are not alarmingly high, nevertheless high blood sugar levels do have their detrimental effects on the body. The oral cavity (mouth) is not saved either! High blood sugar levels bring down the immunity of the body and minor and small infections also escalate causing a lot of problems. I strongly suggest you to keep your blood sugar levels under control and meet good physician who can help you with that. Oral Health can be kept optimum by timely visits to your dentists and taking his/her recommendations seriously and putting them into practise. A good dentist will always tell you about best practises and tips and tricks about keeping a good oral hygiene. Do not ignore small decays and never ignore gum disease, as these are especially more common in diabetics. Regarding a good toothpaste. Well there is no such thing as the best tooth paste. Any tooth paste is always as good as your brushing habits and techniques. Although I would suggest you to keep away from tooth pastes which have any type of abrasives in it, as long term use of these can be detrimental to the tooth structure. There you go. I hope this was of some help to you. Do take good care of your teeth! Thanks, Cheers.

How to whiten our teeth

MBBS, Diploma In Dermatology & Venerology & Leprosy (DDVL)

How to whiten our teeth
How to whiten our teeth

we have to know why they get yellow in the first place.

There are several factors

1.genetics
2.food and drink
3.oral hygiene.

A tooth is made up of 4 tissues-enamel, dentin, pulp and cementum.

The enamel and dentin is what play the biggest role in color.

two biggest culprits are the nasty food and drink that actually break down the enamel, and weakening enamel as we age.

As the enamel breaks down, it reveals the yellow dentin underneath. These remedies will focus on whitening teeth that have already lost some white enamel, but it’s also good to keep in mind that doing things to strengthen enamel is just as important so you can keep it from breaking down further.

Whitening Products - Can They Have Side Effects?

Whitening Products - Can They Have Side Effects?

All of us love to flash a set of pearly whites with each smile. However, due to various reasons, we have teeth that are not-so-white. The bleaching agents come to the rescue as they can help whiten the teeth. In an overzealous manner, some people however, go overboard and over bleach their teeth. Bleaching agents should be used only with approval by a dentist and in a recommended manner, the frequency and the duration of application. Like anything else, they can also have harmful effects, which again can hurt the teeth, and if the whitening effect is lost, the person could be worse off than what they started with.

The following are common side effects seen with overuse of bleaching agents. Note that in most people, when used according to medical advice, these effects are very minimal.

  1. Tooth sensitivity: One of the most common side effects with teeth bleaching is the tingling feeling in the teeth. When done in office, it happens as the bleaching agent is reaching the tubules in the teeth. It could range from a one-off feeling to something that is constant and nagging. If being done in the office, you could indicate to the dentist so that subsequent sittings can be planned after the sensitivity settles down. The duration of each session may also have to be reduced.
  2. Gum irritation: The active bleaching agent is hydrogen peroxide which is caustic and can irritate the soft tissues. When done in office, the teeth are usually isolated using a rubber dam and so this problem is minimized. However, when trays are used at home, the gums do get exposed to the bleaching agent and so gum irritation is highly likely.
  3. Tooth pain and discomfort: This tooth pain usually sets in after a couple of hours after the bleaching is done. This happens again due to hydrogen peroxide penetrating the tooth, dehydration of the tooth, and using laser light for prolonged periods during the bleaching process. This usually subsides in a couple of days’ time and so need not be a cause for worry.
  4. Thermal sensitivity: A couple of days after the bleaching, the teeth may experience sensitivity to hot and cold foods, especially with beverages. This again is usually self-limiting and will disappear in a couple of days. Desensitizing toothpaste may be prescribed by the dentist in severe cases.

In all these cases, though bleaching is usually harmless, there are rare cases where side effects have been severe. Overenthusiasm to increase the whiteness is often the reason for these side effects. These can be avoided by opting for bleaching under strict supervision and following the dentist’s advise when being done at home. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Dentist.
