I'm 26. My lateral and central incisors are still baby/milky teeth. One of my lateral incisors is now shaking a bit. Please, tell me if it sheds, new permanent tooth will regrow or not?

Dentist, Kolkata
No, now there will be no more permanent teeth in your mouth at this age, once the milk tooth sheds, you can go for artificial teeth.

You can exercise for healthier gums as well. Gently bite down so as to make sure that your teeth make a clinking sound when they meet. Repeat this 30 to 40 times continuously. This exercise will stimulate the flow of blood and will keep your gums healthy.

Dear sir/mam I am 21 years old male. I am suffered by pyria from last 2 month. What should I do?

Dentist, Jaipur
Go to a dentist for thorough check up and x ray. By this we can plan for your treatment. Mostly you have to go for scaling and polishing first. If required you can go ahead with periodontal therapy

5 Foods that Ruin Your TEETH Without Your Knowledge, Every Day!

5 Foods that Ruin Your TEETH Without Your Knowledge, Every Day!

5 foods you didn't know were ruining your teeth

Brushing is not the only way to keep your teeth free from damage. To have perfectly healthy and sparkly teeth, you should avoid certain foods as well, especially those high in sugar and acid content.

Fruits rich in sucrose (such as cherries, mangoes and pears) are like food to the bacteria in your mouth. These bacteria give rise to plaque build-up; and produce lactic acid, which causes the erosion of your tooth enamel.

As for foods containing acid (like meat, cashew nuts and peanuts), their acidic content is chiefly responsible for tooth decay. In fact, these foods eat away at your enamel and cause your teeth to chip and break.

Which are the foods that spell danger for your teeth?

1. Apples: sadly, an apple a day doesn't keep the dentist away. Apples have high acidic content and are very harsh on your enamel. Remember to rinse your mouth thoroughly with water just after having apples.

2. Pickles: pickles are either made of sugar or vinegar and can be sweet and sour, depending on what's used. While the vegetables and fruits used in these pickles may do you good, it's the brine that brings about tooth decay. Make sure to brush your teeth after an hour of having pickles to prevent any sort of damage.

3. Bread: processed white bread that you have at breakfast every morning is loaded with sugar. It's quite sticky as well and easily gets lodged between your teeth, giving rise to cavities.

4. Popcorn: working in the same way as bread, popcorn can get easily stuck in the lines between your teeth, leading to a rise in the level of bacteria in your mouth. You can indulge yourself in a bit of popcorn as long as you floss and brush after an hour or two of eating it.

5. Diet sodas: just because sodas contain no added sugar doesn't mean they are healthy for your teeth. The acidity of diet sodas is very high, making it one of the worst things out there for your teeth. The only thing you can do is to cut down your consumption of diet sodas.

Keeping Your Toothbrush Clean

Dentist, Mumbai
Keeping Your Toothbrush Clean
Good Toothbrush Hygiene is as important as maintaining a good Oral Hygiene. Here are few ways to make sure your toothbrush is truly clean:

Don’t share toothbrushes. Using someone else’s toothbrush exposes you to another person’s body fluids and potential germs, which could make you sick. People with compromised immune systems or who are sick with something they could pass on to another person should take special care to use only their own toothbrush.

Rinse your toothbrush after brushing. Give it a thorough washing to remove any leftover toothpaste or debris.

Store your toothbrush in an upright position. When you’re done brushing, try to store it standing straight up and allow it to air-dry until your next brushing. If there’s more than one brush in the same holder, try to keep them as separate as possible to prevent cross-contamination.

Keep your toothbrush out in the open. Do not routinely cover toothbrushes or store them in closed containers. A moist environment, such as a closed container, is more conducive to the growth of bacteria than the open air.

Replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months. Bristles that become frayed and worn with use and will be less effective at cleaning teeth. Children’s toothbrushes often need replacing more frequently than adult brushes.

I dnt eat chocolates, sweets much, out of 31 tooth 18 tooth has cavities. My dentist has done cement filling many times bt still I observe cavities for every 8 months or more. I brush my teeth twice a dady n evn use mouth wash, still I suffer from cavities. How can I avoid them and make my teeth stronger and healthier?

Dentist, Dhanbad
Basically U may be suffering from tooth malformation in which your enamel has not formed properly. In such case brushing regularly and having a balanced diet will help. Also get a fluoride treatment done. This may help in reducing the cavity formation. Also if there is lot of tooth destruction go for crowns.

Dear lybrate-user, apke jo daant toote the accident mein wo permanent daant the, milk teeth nhi. Wo dobara nhi ate. Isilie apko artificial teeth hi lgwane padenge, jinhe bridge kehte hain. Har dentist ke alag charges hote hain bridge lgane ke. But average cost is rs 2000 per tooth. Ap implant bhi lgwa sakte hain but wo treatment thoda mehenga hai, about 10000-12000 per tooth.

Space available for upper and lower teeth is insufficient. What does it mean? And what problem I might be having?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Kindly consult an orthodontist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (model study, full mouth & profile x-ray) & clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need fixed / removable braces. Requirements may depends on the age, complaint, duration of the treatment & affordability. Cost of cosmetic dentistry (braces) varies with dentist.

I have 6 month old baby. He has teething pain. Can you suggest something to make it easy for my baby Thnx.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Aurangabad
Teething usually begins at 8 months of age. In some case it begins earlier and in some cases it is late. If you are sure the pain is due to teething, then you can try a pacifier/teether.
