Diabetes should be well controlled target hba1c should be 6 you can conceive but have to shift to only insulin therapy during pregnancy dose have to be adjusted accordingly. If uncontrolled sugars are there chances of large baby and deformity are there.

What To Expect Before Spine Surgery?

Spinal surgery becomes inevitable when back pain cannot be managed with medications and/or exercise. This is a major decision and requires planning for many things before, during, and after the surgery.

Before a spinal surgery- This preparation will help in smooth recovery, especially if you do not have a full-time caretaker.

  1. Discontinue pain killers: Discontinue pain killers at least 10 to 14 days before surgery. These are blood thinners and can prolong bleeding during the surgery.

  2. Prepare for blood loss: Most people experience some blood loss, but not excessive.

  3. Use a toilet seat raiser: Sitting and getting up from the toilet seat may be difficult. The seat raiser is used to increase the height, making this movement easy.

  4. Enable easy access to common items: Before heading for the surgery, keep things which are commonly used within easy reach. This will help reduce movement and avoid searching (especially if someone else is going to be doing it).

  5. Stock it up: Cooking may not be feasible during the initial postop period, and so it is advisable to stock up food items (ready to eats, fruits, soups, etc.) which will come in handy.

  6. Slip-ons: Bending down and tying shoes may not be easy, so slip-ons can be used.

  7. Caregiving: It is always advisable to have someone stay over with you during the initial postop days. They could help with regular household chores, cooking, etc.

  8. Lifestyle changes: Ensure you eat well in the days before surgery, quit smoking, quit/use moderate amounts of alcohol, and exercise as advised by your surgeon.

After Surgery- Post surgery, there will be some pain and limitation of movement. It is important to understand that adherence to post-op instructions will improve the success rate of the surgery. Also, recovery time for spine surgery is slightly longer and affects overall quality of life, so psychological preparation is required.

  1. Postoperative medications: These will be given to control infection and pain in the immediate postop period, and should be taken without fail

  2. Rehab: The surgeon will recommend physical therapy and rehab exercises which need to be followed. Complete recovery may take anywhere between 3 to 12 months. During this time, care should be taken to avoid repeat injury.

  3. Support: Adequate back support should be provided using lumbar support and ergonomic chairs, and the right posture should be maintained. Ensure there is no undue strain on the back muscles.

  4. Weight management: With excess weight, there is too much strain on the lower disks. Therefore, weight should be managed to reduce this strain.

  5. Smoking and alcohol should be completely stopped, as healing can be hampered.

With some preparation, spinal surgery can be sailed through smoothly.

Hey I low in calcium for few years but it's tablets are too big to swallow that's why I don't eat it but my joints pains frequently and cramps too. I married 3 months before. Due to this my mom in law give me dry fruits apple banana milk mix in breakfast n regular normal lunch and dinner. Hi lybrate-user If you cannot take calcium tablets you can take calcium naturally but before that, you need to have sufficient amount of Vitamin D levels in your body so that the calcium will naturally be absorbed. The recommended levels of vitamin D are 20 nanograms/milliliter to 50 ng/mL. Hi lybrate-user, what you are describing sounds like an anxiety attack and since you have already been diagnosed with anxiety I suggest that in addition to medication, you should get to the root of the issue. Try some pranayam and yoga. I would also advise that you seek help from a professional counsellor. Hope you feel better soon.

I have been experiencing pain and uncomfortable in my left leg for a month now. The pain occurs mainly after I lie down to sleep at night. I cannot sleep during this pain. In the morning, I again experience pain different. My lower back becomes totally stiff, so much so that I cannot move for a few minutes. Also, I cannot bend and work for too long. It seems that you are suffering with muscle stiffness. Generaly is can be cured with exercise and some stretching. But it can be symptom of some other major disease if it is associated with some other symptoms too. Do you have other symptoms like fever, redness, pain in left leg. As it is almost month you are having this pain my advice is you should go for proper and detailed consultation which includes detailed case taking, proper medicines, stretching and exercise guidance. What causes bone loss?
Bones are made of minerals, calcium, and phosphate. Bones are being constantly destroyed and refoemed within the body. As long as your body balances the process, your bones stay strong and healthy. Hi, I was having back pain and some skin problems like slight vitiligo on inner lip. I was recommended vitamin b12, vit D tests. My vitamin D levels are 6.38 ng/ml. Vit B12 levels are 125 pg/ml. I want to know are these levels too low and how can I get it to normal level. Diet changes to treatment.

Vitamin D is not sufficiently available in any diet. It's best source is strong sunlight. B12 is available in many foods but is destroyed on cooking. Green leafy vegetables, sprouts, fruits are good source. We usually recommend supplements for a few months as no amount of food will adequately replenish the severe deficiency you have.

After few days of surgery ambulation is very important and lying in flat position cause chest congestion keep him hydrated water with sugar and salt ,the systolic BP should not fall below 100 chest physio (that is patting slowly by palms on back of chest twice a day )spit the cough always give luke warm water.
