What is Carpal tunnel syndrome?

What is Carpal tunnel syndrome?

What is Carpal tunnel syndrome ?

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition that causes numbness, tingling and other symptoms in the hand and arm. Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by a compressed nerve in the carpal tunnel, a narrow passageway on the palm side of your wrist. The anatomy of your wrist, health problems and possibly repetitive hand motions can contribute to carpal tunnel syndrome.Proper treatment usually relieves the tingling and numbness and restores wrist and hand function.

What Are The Causes of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

The primary cause of carpal tunnel syndrome is the pressure on the median nerve. It is seen in certain health conditions like:

• Obesity

• Hypothyroidism

• Arthritis

• Diabetes

• High blood pressure

• Fractures

What Are The Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Most common symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome include an unpleasant tingling sensation, pain and numbness in the area through which the median nerve passes. This includes the thumb, index, middle finger and a part of the ring finger. These symptoms tend to worsen at night. During the day, the symptoms can cause clumsiness, often causing sufferers to drop things and have trouble picking things up. Here are some of the common symptoms:

• The tingling sensation or numbness in the fingers

• A sudden pain in the wrist that goes all the way to the hands

• A weakness of the hand and tendency to drop things

• A burning sensation that can even stay for a prolonged period

• Disturbance in the sleep due to pain at night

People with carpal tunnel say that a flick of the wrist helps in relieving symptoms.

History of symptoms. Your doctor will review the pattern of your symptoms. For example, because the median nerve doesn't provide sensation to your little finger, symptoms in that finger may indicate a problem other than carpal tunnel syndrome.

Carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms usually occur include while holding a phone or a newspaper, gripping a steering wheel, or waking up during the night.
Physical examination. Your doctor will conduct a physical examination. He or she will test the feeling in your fingers and the strength of the muscles in your hand.

Bending the wrist, tapping on the nerve or simply pressing on the nerve can trigger symptoms in many people.

X-ray. Some doctors recommend an X-ray of the affected wrist to exclude other causes of wrist pain, such as arthritis or a fracture.

Electromyogram. This test measures the tiny electrical discharges produced in muscles. During this test, your doctor inserts a thin-needle electrode into specific muscles to evaluate the electrical activity when muscles contract and rest. This test can identify muscle damage and also may rule out other conditions.

Nerve conduction study. In a variation of electromyography, two electrodes are taped to your skin. A small shock is passed through the median nerve to see if electrical impulses are slowed in the carpal tunnel. This test may be used to diagnose your condition and rule out other conditions.

How To Prevent Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

As painful as the condition is, carpal tunnel syndrome is also easy to prevent.
Correct the posture: Posture: It is important to have a correct posture as it directly affects the wrists and the fingers.

Paying attention to the hand posture is important to make sure that the activity does not involve overextension of the wrists

Treat underlying conditions: Conditions like diabetes, arthritis and high blood pressure should not be neglected and treated properly because it can create tension in the median nerves as well.

Take a break: If your work involves the use of hands and fingers to a great extent, take breaks and gently stretch your hands and wrists.

Reduce the strain: Use a mouse that is comfortable and does not put a strain on your wrists.

Watch your form. Avoid bending your wrist all the way up or down. A relaxed middle position is best. Keep your keyboard at elbow height or slightly lower.

Treatment Of Scabies!

Homeopath, Bahadurgarh
Treatment Of Scabies!

Scabies is a skin infestation caused by a mite known as the sarcoptes scabiei. Untreated, these microscopic mites can live on your skin for months. They reproduce on the surface of your skin and then burrow into it and lay eggs. This causes an itchy, red rash to form on the skin.

Symptoms of scabies

After the initial exposure to scabies, it can take up to six weeks for symptoms to appear. The symptoms usually develop more quickly in people who’ve had scabies before. The hallmark symptoms of scabies include a rash and intense itching that gets worse at night. Continuous scratching of the infected area can create sores that become infected. If this occurs, additional treatment with antibiotics for the skin infection may be recommended.

Common sites for scabies in older children and adults include the:

Area between the fingers

Scabies in babies and toddlers, and sometimes the very elderly or immunocompromised, can include the:

Soles of the feet

The rash itself can consist of tiny bites, hives, bumps under the skin, or pimple-like bumps. The burrow tracks of the mite can sometimes be seen on the skin. They may appear as tiny raised or discolored lines.

Norwegian or crusted scabies-

Some people with scabies may develop another form of scabies known as norwegian scabies, or crusted scabies. This is a more severe and extremely contagious type of scabies. People with crusted scabies develop thick crusts of skin that contain thousands of mites and eggs.

Crusted scabies can also appear:

Easy to crumble when touched

Crusted scabies usually develops in people with weakened immune systems. This includes people with hiv or aids, people who use steroids or certain medications (such as some for rheumatoid arthritis), or people who are undergoing chemotherapy. The scabies mites can overpower the immune system more easily and multiply at a quicker rate. Crusted scabies spreads in the same way as normal scabies.

Scabies is a highly contagious condition. If you have close contact with a person infested with the scabies mite, your chances of catching it are fairly high. Crowded living conditions, close body contact (e. G, sleeping in the same bed), even holding hands for a while can easily allow the mite to spread from one person to another.Since the scabies mite won't live away from a human body for more than a few days, direct contact is a much more likely source of transmission than clothing, bedding, or towels. The mites that cause scabies live specifically on humans - they can't be transmitted to or caught from animals, such as dogs.

A female mite lays 3 to 4 eggs per day, just under the surface of the skin. It takes about 2 weeks for these eggs to develop into larvae and finally adults, after which the adults emerge to the surface of the skin to mate. Once mating is complete, the adults reinvade the skin of their host or another person. The presence of the burrowing adult mite, eggs, and larvae cause a terrible itch. The number of infesting mites averages 5 to 10 but varies depending on the person's hygiene.

To diagnose scabies, your doctor examines your skin, looking for signs of mites, including the characteristic burrows. When your doctor locates a mite burrow, he or she may take a scraping from that area of your skin to examine under a microscope. The microscopic examination can determine the presence of mites or their eggs.

Maintain personal hygiene.
Change clothes, bed linens daily.
Regular daily bath.
Clothes & bed linens to be boiled in hot water, dried in sun & ironed.
Thorough scrubbing with soap & water.
Through drying of skin after bathing.
Treat all close contacts
Cool and soak your skin- soaking in cool water or applying a cool, wet washcloth to irritated areas of your skin may minimize itching.
Apply soothing lotion- calamine lotion, available without a prescription, can effectively relieve the pain and itching of minor skin irritations.

Diet managment for scabies-

Overall you want to avoid foods that contain natural histamines (your body is already creating enough to combat the mites) and foods that you are allergic too.

Here is a list of foods you might want to avoid or cut down on during your scabies infestation because they are high in histamines:

Red wine

Aged cheese

Citrus fruits

Fermented foods (sauerkraut, kombucha, yogurt)

Bacon (and other cured meats)

Artificial food colors and preservatives

Other foods that commonly cause allergic reactions, often involving skin irritation include:

Tree nuts

Coloring, additives

In scabies, homeopathy is the best treatment option as homeopathic prescriptions are exceptionally capable in treating this type of disease. They invigorate the disease fighting mechanism of the body to fight scabies. As the healing system of the body is reinforced, the sickness is totally annihilated. It’s an approach that attacks the infection at the root and avert a repeat of the infection.

Diabetes Diet Do's And Don'ts!

Diabetes Diet Do's And Don'ts!

Diabetes Diet Do's & Don'ts!

Most people can rely on their bodies to control blood sugar with insulin. But people with Type 2 Diabetes have to eat smart to keep blood sugar in a safe range. A healthy diet, especially one that keeps the weight off, can also help reduce the need for medications in people with type 2 diabetes.

1. Vegetables

- Do eat: Spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and asparagus. They’re packed with nutrients and low in carbohydrates, which your body quickly breaks down into glucose.

- Avoid: Fried and breaded vegetables – they add extra calories, carbs, and fat.

- Cooking tip: Try roasting vegetables with a sprinkle of olive oil, pepper, a pinch of salt, and a little lemon juice. It adds flavor with minimal calories.

2. Starches

- Do eat: Whole-wheat bread and pasta, brown rice, and oats. Whole-grain starches give you more vitamins, minerals, and fiber than white or refined versions. They’re also less likely to lead to rapid spikes in blood sugar.

- Avoid: White bread, chips, and pastries, which quickly increase blood sugar.

- Cooking tip: Homemade oatmeal for breakfast is a simple source of whole grain.

3. Fruits

- Do eat: Small servings of peaches, apples, oranges, berries, kiwi, and other fruits. Fruit is a low-calorie, high-fiber, nutrient-rich source of carbohydrates.

- Avoid: Jellies and fruit juices with added sugar.

- Cooking tip: Layer berries with low-fat, unsweetened yogurt to make a tasty dessert.

4. Dairy

- Do eat: Unflavored and low-fat yogurt, milk, and cheese. Low-fat dairy gives you protein, calcium, vitamins, and minerals in every serving.

- Avoid: Full-fat dairy products. They come with extra calories and saturated fat, which raises LDL or “bad” cholesterol. Remember diabetes increases your risk of heart disease.

- Cooking tip: Low-fat, plain yogurt is a healthy substitute for sour cream in many recipes.

5. Protein

- Do eat: Skinless poultry, fish, tofu, beans, and lean cuts of red meat.

- Avoid: Fatty cuts of meat and processed meat, like sausages and hot dogs.

- Cooking tip: Trim visible fat from meat and poultry and use a low-fat cooking method, such as roasting or broiling.
