Many temporary remedies can help reduce the swollen look around eyes, such as: Using eye drops for irritation caused by allergies, if appropriate. Drinking ample fluid to prevent dehydration. ... Applying cucumber slices or chilled tea bags over closed eyes. Apply something cold to reduce puffiness, says Rouleau. You can grab anything out of your refrigerator (ice, bag of frozen peas) and it will do the trick—as long as it is held on the area for at least 10 minutes. Keep your head elevated by sleeping on two pillows at night to reduce under eye puffiness, says Rouleau.

Common causes of pain behind the eyes are migraine headaches and sinus infections. In the case of a migraine headache, the pain almost always is behind only one eye and often is accompanied by pain elsewhere on the same side of the head.

Poor Eyesight: Can Acupuncture Cure This?

Poor Eyesight: Can Acupuncture Cure This?

Poor eyesight restricts daily activities. If there are associated conditions like Blind spots, Blurred vision, Reduced color vision, etc., it may further deteriorate the situation. There are some conditions which may even be precursor to loss of vision. Under any of these conditions, one should get his or her eyesight evaluated by an Ophthalmologist.

Although modern science provides various treatment options, Acupuncture is also being recognized as an effective treatment option.

Acupuncture has been found to be useful in alleviating the symptoms of dry eyes and some types of optic nerve damage. Doctors are now researching on the efficacy of Acupuncture for treatment of various eye problems.

Factors that may cause Poor Vision

These are some of the commonly recognized factors for Poor Vision:

Macular Degeneration: The area of Retina, which is responsible for sharp vision, deteriorates. This precipitates blurry vision. Even though it is mostly an age-related problem, hereditary connections can also sometime play a role.
Diabetic Retinopathy: Diabetes can damage blood vessels that nourish the Retina. Over time, this can severely damage the eyes.
Retinal Detachment: If the Retina gets detached from the underlying layer, it may cause total loss of vision.
Cataracts: Clouding of a part or whole of the lens of an eye is known as Cataract. This is mostly age related and can be treated.
Glaucoma: It damages the optic nerve. Increased internal eye pressure is considered to be responsible for such damage. If there is not enough blood flow to the optic nerve due to some blockage, it may also cause Glaucoma. If diagnosed early, drugs and surgery can help, but cannot restore vision completely.

The Role of Acupuncture in Treatment of Eye Problems

The role of Acupuncture has been studied in some of these eye disorders. It has been found to be quite effective in treating many of these.

Nonarteritic Ischemic Optic Neuropathy

Modern medicine is yet to come up with an answer for this problem. However, researchers have proved that Acupuncture is quite effective in treating this condition. As per research, Acupuncture can increase both visual acuity and light sensitivity.

Dry Eye

A study has shown that Acupuncture may improve mid-term outcomes related to dry eye in a much better manner as compared to artificial tears that modern medicine prescribes.

Acupuncture Points for Eyes

There are some points around the Eyes, suitable for Acupuncture, which need to be pierced with needles, in order to improve eyesight. These points are:

● Inner corners of the eye
● Inner end of the eyebrows
● Middle of the eyebrow just above the pupil
● Hollow area in the outside part of eyebrows
● Outside corner of the eyes

Since most of the studies are indicative in nature and need to be further corroborated with tests, a combination of modern medicine and Acupuncture may be the best way forward. Consulting an experienced Acupuncture specialist would be a step in the right direction.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Myopia - Things You Should Know

Symptoms And Treatment Of Myopia - Things You Should Know

Myopia is also known by the name of nearsightedness. It is one of the most common refractive disorders of the eye. Over the years, it has become more prevalent. According to a recent study conducted by the National Eye Institute (NEI), myopia has grown more prevalent from 25 percent in 1972 to around 40% percent in 2004 in United States.

The exact cause of the prevalence of this disorder in USA is not known. However, many doctors are of the opinion that eye fatigue due to overuse of computers can be the primary reason behind the spread of this disorder. It could also be affected by genetical links.

Myopia Symptoms And Signs:

It is time to take care of your eyes if you have difficulty in reading the sign boards on road or seeing objects from a distance. This could be a sign for myopia if you are able to see things clearly from a closer distance. There are several symptoms of myopia, including strain on eyes, headaches and squinting. If these signs don’t vanish after wearing lenses or spectacles, you must visit your ophthalmologist.

What are the factors that cause Myopia or Nearsightedness?

It occurs at a time when the eyeball of the patient is too long. The lens of the patient will be too long as compared to the focusing power of the cornea or the eye lens. This condition leads to the focusing of light rays at a point in front of the retina. The rays don’t focus directly on the retina’s surface. Myopia can also be caused if the lens of the eye is too curved. Myopia can also be caused due to a combination of factors. The problem may start from childhood. You are also at the risk of developing the problem if your parents have had the problem.

Myopia Treatment:

Myopia is not a rare disorder of the eye. People living with myopia have several options of its treatment. It can be rectified or corrected with the help of spectacles and contact lenses. It can also be corrected by refractive surgery. The kind of treatment to be chosen depends upon the degree of your myopia. You will be asked to wear lenses or spectacles for a prescribed amount of time, depending upon the degree of your disorder.

If you are suffering from myopia, the doctor will prescribe you to wear spectacles or lenses of a certain power that will be preceded by a minus (-) sign.
