My sister delivered a girl child on 6th of September 2016 through vaginal delivery. But the baby did not cry at first but she cried after 5 minutes. She was breastfeeding normal but after some time she choked and had breathing problem. She was kept in NICU for two days and has not taken breast milk. Doctor said that baby did not get sufficient oxygen to brain at first so it may cause complication in future. We are worried. Help.

The first problem delayed cry can cause hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy HIE, this means brain injury, can have developmental, mental and brain related problems in future, shd be periodically examined by your Dr. to assess and guide you. 2nd problem appears to be aspiration.

Hi, HSG will only show whether tunes are open anatomically. But whether it is functional. that is whether there is motility to catch the egg and transport the embryo back to the uterus can be checked only by seeing which means visualizing thro laparoscopy. In that also even if the tube shows motility it does not guarantee that it can catch the embryo which nobody can say.But atleast we can rule out if the tube are plastered and not moving or adhesions are there then there is no point in trying and ivf is the only solution. To come to that clarity it will be helpful. Also if there are minor adhesions it can be released. In any way laparoscopy will be helpful. But you can try few more iui cycles in a good center before going in for lap.

Usually this cyst does not cause any problem in pregnancy. It usually resolves on its own and if it does not then at the time of delivery if cesarean then it can managed simultaneously. If normal vaginal delivery then 2 months later get usg done for it. If it still exist then get investigated n take treatment.

Hi, you can start giving her solids, avoid giving dry fruits so early, give her mashed banana, mashed potatoes, apple, dal and introduce one food item at a time and then gradually increase to khichadi, dalia.

Yes it is ideally after 6 months in present teaching. Earlier we were taught that semisolids can be started from 4 months. It is alright to start semisolids, form 4 months. All type of homemade foods are always best and not commercial ones.

Pediatrician, Pune
Maintain hb more that 9 gm% by regular transfusions, avoid iron overload by giving iron chelators deferrasirox / others as prescribed by your doctor to keep ferritin < 1000, get his blood checked every six months for transfusion related infections and iron overload, maintain a near normal life, try an option for bone marrow transplant.

Health Tips For Healthy Children

You can help your child develop healthy habits early in life that will bring lifelong benefits. As a parent, you can encourage your kids to evaluate their food choice and physical activity habits. Here are some tips and guidelines to get you started.

Be a good role model- you don't have to be perfect all the time, but if kids see you trying to eat right and getting physically active, they'll take notice of your efforts. You'll send a message that good health is important to your family.

Keep things positive- kid&'s don't like to hear what they can't do, tell them what they can do instead. Keep it fun and positive. Everyone likes to be praised for a job well done. Celebrate successes and help children and teens develop a good self-image.

Get the whole family moving- plan times for everyone to get moving together. Take walks, ride bikes, go swimming, garden or just play hide-and-seek outside. Everyone will benefit from the exercise and the time together.

Be realistic- setting realistic goals and limits are key to adopting any new behaviour. Small steps and gradual changes can make a big difference in your health over time, so start small and build up.

Limit tv, video game and computer time- these habits lead to a sedentary lifestyle and excessive snacking, which increase risks for obesity and cardiovascular disease. Limit screen time to 2 hours per day.

Encourage physical activities that they'll really enjoy- every child is unique. Let your child experiment with different activities until they find something that they really love doing. They'll stick with it longer if they love it.

Pick truly rewarding rewards- don't reward children with tv, video games, candy or snacks for a job well done. Find other ways to celebrate good behaviour.

Make dinnertime a family time -when everyone sits down together to eat, there's less chance of children eating the wrong foods or snacking too much. Get your kids involved in cooking and planning meals. Everyone develops good eating habits together and the quality time with the family will be an added bonus.

Make a game of reading food labels -the whole family will learn what's good for their health and be more conscious of what they eat. It's a habit that helps change behaviour for a lifetime.

Stay involved -be an advocate for healthier children. Insist on good food choices at school. Make sure your children's healthcare providers are monitoring cardiovascular indicators like bmi, blood pressure and cholesterol. Contact public officials on matters of the heart. Make your voice heard.
