Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning along with whitening (bleaching) procedures and / or artificial enamel filling. Advance procedures can be done with laser. You may consult me in person. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush.

Pregnancy and Oral Health

MDS - Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, BDS
Dentist, Hyderabad
Pregnancy and Oral Health

Pregnancy brings with it a whole lot of body system changes and oral health is no exception. Some simple careful planning, however, can help avoid a lot of oral health complications associated with pregnancy. The hormonal changes during pregnancy have a direct effect on the oral health and has higher incidence of decay, pregnancy gingivitis, and pregnancy tumors. Additionally, morning sickness affects the regular oral care, leading to more plaque and decay.

Before pregnancy: If you are planning to get pregnant, then a dental visit can help you get a thorough check-up ahead of the pregnancy. A routine cleaning and check for cavities should be sufficient to avoid any urgent treatment need during the period of pregnancy.

During pregnancy: If you were not able to do your pre-pregnancy dental visit, inform the dentists about pregnancy as early as possible. All elective procedures can be done after the delivery. Only really essential treatment that cannot wait until the delivery should be undertaken during pregnancy, most safe if done during the 4th to 6th months.

Listed below are some points to consider as far as oral/dental health is considered during pregnancy:

  1. Scaling and polishing can be done as usual
  2. Inform the dentist about all the medications that you are advised by your gynecologist
  3. Periodic check-up once in 3 months to reduce severity of gum disease and decay
  4. Good oral hygiene measures including brushing, flossing, and rinsing
  5. Try a bland toothpaste if morning sickness is very severe
  6. Eat a healthy, balanced diet. Tooth formation happens in the third month and requires diet rich in calcium and minerals
  7. Avoid sweet snacks which can lead to greater plaque formation

The hormone changes combined with oral infection (could be gum disease or tooth decay) can lead to severe effects on the developing baby. It is extremely important to avoid dental infections, as these may necessitate antibiotics, require x-rays and even require treatment like root canal and/or extraction, all of which are best avoided until after the baby is delivered. It is considered safe for dental procedures to be done during the 4th to 6th month. Though now there are safer measures to do x-rays and dental procedures, they are best avoided, unless in case of emergency. This emergency situation can be avoided by better planning and some minimal care. Severe gum disease could also lead to premature or low birth weight of the baby. So plaque buildup should be avoided which leads to both decay and gum disease.

After delivery: After the delivery of the baby, please visit your dentist to ensure that there is no emergent dental condition requiring attention. Resume your regular dental care after delivery.

If the pericoronitis is limited to the tooth (for example, if the pain and swelling has not spread), treat it by rinsing your mouth with warm salt water. You should also make sure that the gum flap has no food trapped under it. If your tooth, jaw, and cheek are swollen and painful, see your dentist right away.

What to do for the bad smell coming from our teeth ?

CERTIFIED ORAL IMPLANTOLOGIST, NON-RESIDENT J.R. IN DEPTT. OF ORTHODONTICS, BDS
Dentist,
Start warm saline rinse after meals and a mouthwash alternately and brush twice daily. Please identify your cause of bad breath for more exact treatment there have been myriad reported causes of oral malodor, however these are all much less common than the two above causes. deep carious lesions (dental decay)? which cause localized food impaction and stagnation recent dental extraction sockets? fill with blood clot, and provide an ideal habitat for bacterial proliferation interdental food packing? (food getting pushed down between teeth) - this can be caused by missing teeth, tilted, spaced or crowded teeth, or poorly contoured approximal dental fillings. Food debris becomes trapped, undergoes slow bacterial putrefaction and release of malodorous volatiles. Food packing can also cause a localized periodontal reaction, characterized by dental pain that is relieved by cleaning the area of food packing with interdental brush or floss. Acrylic dentures (plastic false teeth)? inadequate denture hygiene practises such as failing to clean and remove the prosthesis each night, may cause a malodour from the plastic itself or from the mouth as microbiota responds to the altered environment. The plastic is actually porous, and the fitting surface is usually irregular, sculpted to fit the edentulous oral anatomy. These factors predispose to bacterial and yeast retention, which is accompanied by a typical smell. Oral infections oral ulceration fasting stress/anxiety menstrual cycle? at mid cycle and during menstruation, increased breath vsc were reported in women. Smoking? smoking is linked with periodontal disease, which is the second most common cause of oral malodor. Smoking also has many other negative effects on the mouth, from increased rates of dental decay to premalignant lesions and even oral cancer. Alcohol volatile foodstuffs? e. G. Onion, garlic, durian, cabbage, cauliflower and radish. Volatile foodstuffs may leave malodorous residues in the mouth, which are the subject to bacterial putrefaction and vsc release. However, volatile foodstuffs may also cause halitoisis via the blood borne halitosis mechanism. Medication? often medications can cause xerostomia (dry mouth) which results in increased microbial growth in the mouth. Systemic diseases[ edit] there are a few systemic (non-oral) medical conditions that may cause foul breath odor, but these are extremely infrequent in the general population. Such conditions are[ 22[ 23] fetor hepaticus: an example of a rare type of bad breath caused by chronic liver failure. Lower respiratory tract infections (bronchial and lung infections). Renal infections and renal failure. Carcinoma. Trimethylaminuria (" fish odor syndrome"). Diabetes mellitus. Metabolic conditions, e. G. Resulting in elevated blood dimethyl sulfide[ 8]

My teeth's are becoming black due to smoking. How to make them white without quit smoking?

My teeth's are becoming black due to smoking. How to make them white without quit smoking?
Hi lybrate-user, you know the cause of your problem you have to decide between smoking and your teeth. You can't have both and expect that your teeth will remain white. Once you decide to quit smoking cleaning (scaling) once done will reduce the amount of stains on the teeth.

I am 18 years old male. I am suffering from yellow teeth since last 1 year. I brush my teeth everyday. What I should do for white teeth? thank you:)

BDS
Dentist, Thane
Hello , treatment plan to make your teeth white goes as follows: visit the dentist, who will first do clean up of your teeth this will remove all the extrinsic stains and deposits present on the teeth & reveal the original colour of your teeth. After that if you want more brighter teeth you can undergo teeth whitening or bleaching treatment for further enhancement of shade. Your dentist will be best judge to decide whether home bleaching or in office bleaching will provide you with the desired results. You can try some commercially available whitening toothpastes after bleaching to maintain the effect for bit longer time. Whitening toothpastes can also be used without bleaching treatment for very minor yellowish discolouration but cannot give you satisfactory results in more complex situations.

My tooth is slightly broken. And its paining in the night for what should I do?

M.Sc - Medical Bio-chemistry, BDS
Dentist,
My tooth is slightly broken. And its paining in the night for what should I do?
Broken tooth may cause pain because of involvement of pulp (nerves and blood vessels. Consult a dental surgeon. After taking a xray that tooth can be saved with root canal treatment followed by capping. But if there is any fracture in root the treatment modality will be decided according to prognosis. Tooth with longitudinally fractured roots can not be saved and should be extracted.
