Do take iodized salt first of all. Take medicine early morning and do not eat or drink tea etc. Atleast for 1 hour after medicine. Keep a watch on weight. Keep walking and exercises going. It will help you to be fit and regular medicines and in adequate dose are must. Get tsh test done 3 monthly to keep a watch on it and if needed to increase/decrease dose. No food restriction for thyroid patients as such.

I am suffering from hypo thyroid and taking 25 mg tablets. Is there any issue during pregnancy.

B.A.M.S, MD (Ayu.) Kayachikitsa

Thanks for contacting with your health concern 1. It is completely safe to take thyroxine during pregnancy and it poses no danger to the developing baby [you will be closely monitored] 2. TSH is the best way to tell whether you are getting enough thyroid hormone or not, during the first half of pregnancy it is measured every 4 weeks and in the second half, at least once.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. If you have T2 diabetes then it can be controlled quite well with oral hypoglycoemic drugs, in adequate dose, plus restricted diet and regular exercise. If oral drugs become less effective, newer compounds need to be added or in some Insulin injection has to be added to the treatment. So we will have to give a very close look at your current treatment and then decide what can be done to increase the efficacy. So if you are interested then please come in a private conversation with following details like Fbg, PP & HbA1c%, present drugs with dosage, dietary pattern and extent of daily exercise, then based on those details I will be able to guide. Ideally FBG should be <100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & Hba1c% <6.8. Thanks.

She should control thyroid by drugs. At the same time, we have to check both you and her to assess the fertility factors in both. If any other problem is found, we have to treat that for pregnancy.

lybrate-user, When a patient is on regular treatment with adequate dose of thyroxine, to achieve good control TSH should be maintained between 3 o mU/L. Then only all the symptoms are in check. But treatment has to continue for lifetime. There is no cure. Thanks.
