Tips to Maintain Vaginal Hygiene

Tips to Maintain Vaginal Hygiene

Maintaining proper vaginal hygiene is imperative to ward off any sort of STDor STI, even before any sort of irritation, infection or disease occurs. The normal vaginal pH balance helps cater to the growth of useful bacteria. Some useful tips to maintain proper vaginal hygiene can be:

  1. Douching (spraying a mixture of water, baking soda, vinegar or iodine on the vaginal area) is strictly discouraged. It can interfere with the normal pH levels of the vagina and can make the area extremely acidic, which sets the stage for the growth of bacterial infections.

  2. A balanced, healthy, nutritious diet is recommended for a healthy vagina as well as for good reproductive health. Certain fluids such as cranberry juice can help prevent the onset of any yeast infection.

  3. Safe sex should be practised in order to keep harmful bacteria away. Using a condom during a sexual intercourse helps prevent the occurrence of any sort of STI or STD.

  4. Gynaecological check-ups should be done every four months or so to be on the safe side regarding any doubts about unhealthy vagina. Prevention is always better than cure in the long run.

  5. Petroleum jelly should not be used for lubrication during sexual intercourse as such fluids tend to damage the latex in the condom and may even lead to a possible infection.

  6. Clothes should be chosen carefully to keep the vaginal area clean and dry. Cotton underwear is generally the best option in this regard as it can help prevent any bacterial infection by keeping the area clean and dry.

  7. Certain simple sanitary habits such as changing of tampons or sanitary pads every four hour during one’s periods, proper washing of the genital area after relieving the bowels, can go a long way in nurturing the health of the vagina.

  8. Opt for gentle skin care products to wash the vaginal area as that area is extremely sensitive. Avoid scrubbing the vaginal area as well. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist and ask a free question.

Hi, If you’re aiming to gain some strength and build muscle, you must follow the points mentioned below: •Start exercising. If you’re a beginner, focus on bodyweight exercises like push up, pull up and squat. The basic push up and chin up are invaluable exercises you can do with very little equipment. Increase their difficulty by adding reps or affixing weights to your legs. •Consume a balanced diet. It's important to eat big meals to fuel muscle growth while you're training. You’ll need to eat healthy, whole foods that will nourish and restore your muscles. Consume all types of fruits, vegetables, grains, oils and dairy products. •Take adequate rest. Many people take this step lightly, but it's absolutely essential when it comes to gain strength. That means you won't be able to work out as hard or lift as much as you otherwise would, not to mention you'll be more prone to injury if you're feeling sleepy. Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night, possibly more depending on your individual needs, during heavy workout periods. •Increase protein intake. Protein proves to be the most essential nutrient when it comes down to gaining strength or building muscle. Therefore, consume all types of protein from both veg and non veg food items. Chicken breast, egg whites, fish, pulses provide you all the protein you need without containing any unnecessary fat. •Focus on compound movements. Compound movements are those which engages more than one muscle group. Exercises like bench press, squat, dead lift are great examples of compound exercises to gain strength quickly. •Lift heavy. If your main aim is to gain strength, you’ll need to lift heavy weights in the gym and thus, lower the repetitions of your sets. Moderate-rep sets are important when training for muscle size. However, to build strength, you're going to have to train with heavier weights, meaning you'll do fewer reps. •Limit cardio to once or twice per week. Cardio exercises like running, swimming, and biking are great ways to keep your endurance good and your circulation healthy. However, they aren't the best exercises you can do if your goal is to gain strength. Weight training requires loads of energy, and if yours has already been used up by a long run or bike ride, you won't have enough left over to give weight training your best shot. Limit cardio to once or twice per week so your energy reserves are ready to expend on building strength.

Hi Lybrate User, here are a few tips for you: 1. Try to keep your face moist and clean: Directions: Use warm water in order to wash your face as well as go for gentle facial cleanser in two times per day i.e.in the morning and evening. A gentle cleanser is recommended instead of standard soap the reason is that standard soap might be harmful for your skin on the face as well as might cause irritation. Always go for dandruff shampoo 2-3 weekly in order to get relief from the irritation. Make sure to use moisturizing facial lotion after washing your face in order maintain the skin hydrated as well as in order prevent dead skin cells from clogging up and gathering your follicles. 2. With massage stimulate the hair follicles: A light massage over the face can motivate your hair follicles in order to get thicker and faster. Gently apply even some pressure along the parts of the face over which will help in stimulating the hair growth. Directions: Try to rub in smaller circular motions, and then massage the face consistently for around 10 -15 minutes 2 times on daily basis. 3. Take plenty sleep: Proper rest is one of the necessary things in keeping all of the body’s functions normal, including the hair growth. Sleep is that time in which the body regenerates lost cells. Therefore, hair growth tends to rise higher during sleeping hours. Additionally sleeping for less than 6 hours each night, the process of growing facial hair quickly is all but impossible. In want positive result than at night you require to sleep for at least 8 hours. 4. Exercise on daily basis: By performing exercise on daily basis keep bodily functions, including the hair growth. Always focus on aerobic exercise which is good in improving the blood circulation. It is effective in good in boosting up the blood circulation which is good in improving the metabolic rate. All of the nutrients that you consume is good in increasing the hair growth that will gain the hair follicles in the face much faster if you have the perfect circulation sort which is promoted by aerobic exercise. Hi, Ankle swelling may be due to venous flow stagnation on the foot. If she is obese, she has to reduce her weight. Avoid standing for long duration. Sit on a chair, in between, while working in the kitchen. Do a color doppler study of the legs to rule out venous blocks. Keep the foot end elevated while lying down so that the pedal oedema reduces.

This has nothing to do with typhoid which was 3 years ago. You may be suffering from androgenic alopecia which is also called as pattern baldness. The hairs start reducing in density at the crown (top) and also the hairline starts refeeding from the front. This is usually progressive throughout life unless treated. This is usually accompanied by severe dandruff which we call seborrhoea. The FDA approved treatment for this condition is a lotion and tablets. There is no other alternative. No oil or cream will magically work because the hairs are getting miniaturised and eventually disappearing due to the hormonal effects on the hair roots. Please call me or contact me with photos using online consult option for proper examination and treatment. Do not start treatment without consulting. I can give guidance and then you can continue treatment on your own.

General Physician,
Best age to stop smoking is before 40 ,In fact do not start all Only by using strong will power and avoiding all situations where you feel like smoking, chewing tobacco or drinking or using drugs/ weed, avoiding friends who smoke and diverting mind by reading or chewing a gum, like NICORETTE and taking a walk when you crave for a smoke can all help. You can chew Nicorette gum which is nicotine replacement. There are medicines available. Which can be prescribed if asked personally Cigarette smoking is a leading preventable cause of mortality. It kills more than 60 lakh people worldwide every year. More than 50% of regular smokers would invariably die from tobacco-related illnesses which includes heart attack, cancer or asthmatic lung diseases. Best age to stop smoking is before 40 31st May is “World No Tobacco Day” Quitting smoking before the age of 40 is associated with larger decline in premature death than stopping it at a later date. Best age therefore to stop smoking is before 40. However, stopping smoking even after the age of 50 is still associated with lower risk of death as compared to those who continue to smoke. Even in smokers aged 80 years or more, quitting smoking appears to reduce some mortality.

Why Having a Hobby is Good For You?

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Why Having a Hobby is Good For You?

Pursuing a hobby can help you to ward off diseases while keeping your mind and body fresh and active. What's more, hobbies come with several health benefits too, ranging from lowering of blood pressure and control over cortisol production (a hormone that causes stress) to improvements in your weight and BMI.

4 Amazing health benefits that you can derive from pursuing your favourite hobbies are:

1. Strengthening of your immune system -
Hobbies that augment your activity levels like basketball, golf or bike riding are extremely beneficial for improving your immune system, thereby enhancing the overall quality of your life. A strong immune system is essential as it makes you less prone to chronic diseases like diabetes, arthritis and heart disease.

2. Improving your memory - Another health benefit of having hobbies is that they bring about an improvement in your memory and aid in enhancing your problem-solving abilities. A research conducted by the University of Texas on the impact that hobby has on the brain reveals the fact that the picking up of a new hobby can prevent memory loss. Here's how - the challenge to learn a new skill causes you to focus all of your mental abilities on the task at hand, leading to a sharpening of your memory, while preventing memory loss. By helping you to maintain an active brain, the act of picking up a new hobby, therefore, brings about a delay of cognitive aging by a few years.

3. Cutting down on stress - By indulging in a hobby like cooking, baking or gardening, you get an effective outlet to release all your stress. Being a non-work activity, your mind gets another area of focus, one which you can enjoy. Furthermore, when you put your whole mind to it, your stress and worries seem to wither away.

Moreover, such hobbies that require you to physically exert yourself, albeit in a limited manner, also bring down your stress levels as they produce chemical changes in your body.

4. Improving sleep - Having a hobby also has a positive impact on sleep. The pursuit of active hobbies in the earlier part of the day can lead you to have a very restful sleep. Likewise, engaging in the intellectual activity of reading before going to bed can help you to sleep better.

Apart from giving you tremendous enjoyment, a hobby can also bring many health benefits. So, pursue your hobbies actively despite the busy lifestyle you follow. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor.

Hi. You are overweight! You should reduce weight upto 30-35kgs! It's good to reduce weight at right time as many problems are directly related to overweight! Go through the following guidelines and implement them in your routine: Management: 1: Drink plenty of water (at least 2-3 l/d) or other calorie-free beverages. 2: Be choosy about nighttime snacks. 3: Enjoy your favorite foods. 4: Have 6 meals per day - 3 main courses and 3 snack meals (snack meals should be healthy). 5: Do regular exercises daily (start with light and later may be little vigorous) . Exercise decreases the stress hormone in your body, burns calories and also increases the blood circulation. Preferably brisk walking, swimming, cycling, skipping. 6: Eat seasonal fruits. Fruit helps to satisfy your sweet tooth thanks to its natural sugars, while fresh vegetables help you fill up more quickly. Fruits and vegetables contain fiber to help you feel full quickly. 7: Eat more whole grains and cut simple carbs. Whole wheat bread, oatmeal, whole wheat pasta, sweet potato, and brown rice are all excellent sources of energy and sources of nutrition. 8: Choose lean proteins instead of fatty ones. 9: Cut the salt from your diet. Eating more sodium causes your body to retain water, which can cause you to feel bloated and gain more weight. 10: Don't skip meals. When you skip meals, your body stops breaking down fat and starts breaking down muscle tissue. Muscle tissue burns more calories at rest than other tissues, so you're actually working against your goals 11: Eat at home. Going out to eat makes it too easy to cheat. Food sold at restaurants is commonly much higher in fat, sodium, and other weight-loss killers. 12: Give yourself a treat now and then. If you're attending a party or going out for a special occasion, allow yourself an indulgence. Just make sure that these indulgences don't become daily habits. 13: Go for a health walk. Gear up yourself daily for a health walk which not only shed off your extra calorie, but also reduces the stress levels. Medication: Start taking Schwabe's Phytolacca Berry tablets/ thrice daily 1/2 an hr before the meals for 1 month. Thereafter revert me back for further guidance. All the best!

Laser Surgery for Removing Skin Warts

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Dermatologist, Delhi
Laser Surgery for Removing Skin Warts

Warts refer to a type of a deformity in the skin, which refers to the formation of a small, hard, benign growth on the surface of the skin. It is generally caused by a viral infection and results in a feeling of discomfort or pain. Additionally, laser surgery is a technique, which uses a sharp and strong beam of light to destroy the wart tissue from the skin. The surgical process is usually performed at a doctor's clinic or chamber, under proper medical supervision.

When should you consider laser surgery?
Ideally a laser surgery should be your last resort to remove a wart when all the other means of removing a wart have failed. You should opt for a laser surgery only under the following circumstances:

  • Medicines have not been able to remove the wart
  • Warts are large and widespread
  • Appearance of warts during pregnancy (only after consulting your doctor)

What should you keep in mind? Before opting for surgery:

A laser surgery is a quite complicated process, but its effects are rapid and effective. Some of the things to be kept in mind before you actually opt for a laser treatment are as follows:

  • Laser technology does not lead to scarring on the skin
  • The surgery requires a local anesthetic, which is used for making the affected body part numb
  • Laser treatments should not be used as an initial treatment
  • It is a sure shot way to remove warts

Post surgery:
After a laser surgery the wound is generally painful depending upon the intensity, location and number of warts that are removed. Some of the probable outcomes of a laser surgery are as follows:

  • Bleeding of warts lasting upto 1 week
  • Mild to severe pain
  • Short lived fever
  • Yellowish discharge, which is to be cleaned

2 ONLY Causes of Premature Ejaculation + How to Manage it

2 ONLY Causes of Premature Ejaculation + How to Manage it

2 Major causes of premature ejaculation and how to manage it

One of the most common sexual dysfunctions in men, premature ejaculation (PE) stands for the uncontrollable discharge of semen either prior to or shortly after sexual penetration. Usually, ejaculation that occurs within 30 seconds to 4 minutes is considered premature. Furthermore, there are two kinds of premature ejaculation:

Causes of premature ejaculation

When it comes to causes, PE can have at its core several reasons. As you age and become wiser with time, you learn to control your orgasm. But there are times when you may experience uncontrolled ejaculation of semen. This usually occurs with a new sexual partner or if you've had your last ejaculation a long time ago. Nonetheless, the causes of this sexual problem can be the following:

1. Psychological causes

Under this sub-head, a number of factors may contribute to the problem such as:

1. Your previous history of sexual intercourse can cause you to develop a pattern, which may prove to be difficult to change as you move on with your life. For example, situations where you've hastened the climax with your partner so as to hide the problem; or feelings of guilt that cause you to rush through your sexual intercourses can go on to give rise to PE.

2. Similarly, anxiety about your sexual performance or issues related to your sexual experience can also play a role in bringing about the uncontrolled discharge of semen.

3. Interpersonal problems between you and your partner can be a psychological trigger behind the problem as well.

4. Last but not the least, the fear of the failure to maintain an erection, more specifically the fear of erectile dysfunction can cause you to hasten the climax with your partner, leading to PE.

2. Biological causes

A number of biological factors can cause the problem of premature ejaculation, ranging from abnormal hormone and brain chemicals' levels, thyroid and prostate or urethra inflammation, to hereditary and abnormal reflex functions of the body's ejaculatory system.

How to manage your PE?

Apart from drug therapy, there are several ways through which you can effectively control your ejaculation and these are:

  • Using condoms to reduce the sensitivity of your penis
  • Having sexual intercourse with your partner on top can reduce your chances of experiencing premature ejaculation
  • Indulging in longer foreplay can help delay your ejaculation
  • Take deep breaths to delay stimulation and ejaculation
  • Practice start-stop and squeeze techniques, which help in arousing your penis to the point of ejaculation but stopping before it occur to delay semen discharge.

Premature ejaculation can cause both you and your partner to be dissatisfied with your sex life. But there are ways available that can provide you with long-term relief from the problem.
