Hello, Few lifestyle changes can help you in controlling and preventing the high blood pressure, even if you're taking blood pressure medication. Eat healthy foods. Consume more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish and low-fat dairy foods. Eat less saturated fat and trans fat. Decrease the salt in your diet. So, avoid eating processed foods, such as canned soups or frozen dinners which contains extra salt in it. Keeping a healthy weight, or losing weight if you're overweight or obese, can help you control your high blood pressure and lower your risk of related health problems. Increase physical activity which can help lowering your blood pressure, manage stress, reduce your risk of several health problems. Get indulged in regular exercising (if your doctor allows you). Limit alcohol. Even if you're healthy, alcohol can raise your blood pressure. If you choose to drink alcohol, do so in moderation. Don't smoke. Tobacco injures blood vessel walls and speeds up the process of hardening of the arteries. Reduce stress as much as possible. Practice healthy coping techniques, such as muscle relaxation, deep breathing or meditation. Getting regular physical activity and plenty of sleep can help, too. Monitor your blood pressure at home. Medication: Take Schwabe’s Essentia Aurea/ thrice daily which is a cardio-tonic which helps in maintaining blood pressure, improves muscle tone of the heart and narrowing of blood vessels.

Hello sir/mam, Since past few weeks I feel fainted or dizzy mostly at nights. I feel dizzy then I fall. I'm depressed because of financial pressures and I don't keep a watch on my weight. I have the whole burden of my family on my shoulders so nowadays my tension is at peak. Is my problem, which I mentioned at first line, could be a sign of some disease.

Hello sir/mam,
Since past few weeks I feel fainted or dizzy mostly at nights. I feel dizzy then I fall. I'm depressed...
This might be due to increase stress level which leads to fainting. Anxiety dizziness and/or 'spells' can come and go suddenly, come and linger, or come and remain for some time. This symptom and/or 'spells' might occur rarely, frequently, or persistently. If your dizziness is caused by persistently elevated stress, reducing your stress and giving your body ample time to recover should eliminate this symptom. Keep in mind, however, that it can take a long time for the body to recover from persistently elevated stress.

My wife is 43 years old. She has for the past few months almost daily bad headaches. Initially she used to take disprin/stomach (sometimes more than 1 tablet) to get relief. But after sometime they too did not work. We consulted a doctor who said the symptoms are like migraine. He prescribed Naproxen for the headaches. Almost everyday morning she has to take it after breakfast to get relief. The symptoms are bad headache, dizziness and sometimes nauseas feeling. We too had our annual health check up last week wherein all reports like blood, urine, heart etc were perfect. Would like to know if any additional tests need to be done to ascertain whether its migraine or something else? Just for your info, she is otherwise very active.

Diagnosis of migraine is clinical and most cases tests like CT scan etc is not needed. Headache associated with nausea ,generally unilateral, moderate to severe in intensity, associated with photophobia, phonophobia and visual aura is classic migraine .But it is not necessary for all symptoms to be present to diagnose migraine. Please continue with your medication and follow up with your doctor. Find trigger factor of migraine like sleep deprivation, hunger, coffee, hormonal imbalance, exertion, etc and avoid them.

Hair roots are situated inside the scalp and it gets nutrition through blood.Shampoo is the medium to clean the scalp. It will neither cause hair fall nor growth. Premature greying is greying before the age of 30 yr, after that it is physiological process. Genetic inheritance is the most important cause for it. Apart from that stress, thyroid problem, nutritional deficiency, mal absorption are few other reasons. As melanin is produced with the help of proteins, it is important to eat food which is rich in proteins. Sprouts, beans, nuts, soya are excellent source of protein. Eat more green leafy vegetables. Drink 3 lit of water/day. Oil the scalp 3/week and wash it 3/week.

My sister is 22 years old her height is 5'3" and weight is 50kg. Is it right height and weight? If not what should she do to make it right.

MSc
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Hyderabad
Hi here are 6 ways to gain weight healthily: 1. Eating 5 to 6 meals a day in order to gain weight, start eating 5-6 meals a day by breaking them into parts. Eating a lot at once may cause indigestion if the body fails to absorb all nutrients. Eat in small amounts, even if you are not hungry and there will be an increase in appetite from day to day. The aim should be to have a generously portioned breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as two to three snacks in between. 2. Start weight training if you build your muscles through weight training, it will convert the extra weight into lean body mass and also stimulate your appetite. The extra muscle increases the rate of metabolism. When you start exercising you will often experience extreme muscle soreness but it goes away in 3-5 days. 3. Load up on protein besides weight training, a protein-rich diet can help you gain mass. Eating a meal heavy in protein shortly after finishing exercise can be highly effective in adding extra pounds to your body. However, a diet focused only on lean protein is not helpful. It is important to make sure that your diet has plenty of fat in it. Eat foods rich in protein like cheese, meat, eggs, etc to gain weight in a healthy manner. 4. Workout your entire body a lot of people focus only on training the muscles on their arms, chest and shoulders and this is a grave error. Firstly, it will give you a disproportionate body; and it will make you prone to injuries. Therefore, it's important to work out the entire body for a complete and balanced look. 5. Drink your calories to reach the calorie requirement only by eating may be tough. Drinking milk, milkshakes or protein shakes with little or no sugar can be an effective way to load up on the calorie requirements. 6. Be patient and believe in yourself gaining weight quickly in a healthy manner is unrealistic. Every body type is different and it takes months to gain weight. Living healthy by eating the right diet will increase your strength. It is also important to keep following the routine even if you don't see any gains. Caution: junk food and fried foods must be avoided; although have a tendency to add more fat to your body but are very low in vitamins and minerals which are essentially required to keep you really fit. Related tip: the most powerful way to put on weight - snacking right.

Ayurvedic Tips for Natural Allergy Relief

Ayurvedic Tips for Natural Allergy Relief

A stuffy head, endless sneezing, and sinus congestion are signs that pollen and pollution are getting the best of you. Many people resort to over-the-counter drugs to alleviate the anguish of allergies. Well, this season, fear not, because there are some simple, effective ways to eliminate or improve your allergy symptoms that are also cheap and natural.

The Great Neti Pot
The use of a neti pot has its roots in ancient yogic practices were clear breathing passages were essential to proper yoga practice. This little pot is used to pour warm water into one nostril at a time in order to clear the nasal passageways, wiping out the inflammatory garbage that gets stuck in your sinuses. The first time I used a neti pot I was shocked at how effective it was in such a short period of time.

Use as much filtered water as your neti pot will hold. Warm up the water until it is just warmer than room temperature. Warm water works better at dissolving mucus than cold water. Add a touch of the neti salt to the warm water. Once the salt dissolves you can pour the water into your neti pot. Turn your head sideways over a sink and place the neti pot into your nostril. The trick is to relax as the water is pouring through your nostril, otherwise it may be a bit of a rough ride the first time you do this. The water should flow out of the opposite nostril, but some may go down your throat if you have a lot of congestion initially. Just spit out any water that goes down your throat.

If the water isn't flowing easily, it means you have a blockage in your nasal passage. This may be the case for people who have chronic allergies and it represents an accumulation of inflammatory material, which needs to be removed. Gently relax and inhale slightly through the nostril you are cleaning to help the water flow upward and eventually it will flow. For beginners, I recommend using half the pot for each nostril. Initially, you can go back and forth from nostril to nostril until the pot is finished; eventually, you will be able to do an entire pot for each nostril. After your first use of the neti pot, you may see a drastic reduction in your symptoms. I recommend repeating this process for 7 days initially and then once a week after that during allergy season.

It is important to keep your neti pot clean, sanitized and dry to avoid the growth of microorganisms in your pot.

Nasya Oil
Nasya is an ayurvedic practice that is used to treat stress-related problems, headaches, neck pain, anxiety and mental fogginess. It is also a year-round treatment to prevent and treat seasonal allergies. Nasya helps to remove toxins that accumulate from the upper part of your body by opening up the lymphatic channels and allowing the toxins to be removed through your nasal passages.

Typically, cured sesame oil is used for nasya. To cure any oil, you simply place it in a pot over medium heat and add a drop of water.  When the drop of water pops, the oil is cured. The sesame oil can be used alone or herbs can be added to the oil to help treat specific conditions. Nasya is an all-natural cure for sinus inflammation, which is the main cause of chronic sinus congestion and allergies.

Nasya oil is typically applied in each nostril through a small dropper. I suggest using about 3 drops in one nostril and then inhaling while pinching the other nostril closed with your index finger. Inhale strongly and allow the oil to go up into your sinuses. If any of the oil spills down your throat, spit it out. Repeat the process on the other nostril. It may feel as though you need to blow your nose at first, but resist the urge because the effectiveness of the treatment is based on the oil's ability to permeate the sinuses. Typically, nasya is done every morning, but in the beginning you may need to do it a couple of times a day until the inflammation lessens.

Diet
Most people suffering from allergy symptoms don't realize that the foods they are eating may be contributing to their symptoms. In Ayurveda, allergies are directly linked to digestion and changing the way you eat is an important part of controlling your allergies. People with allergies should avoid the following foods in particular:

Oily foods, especially deep fried
Cold beverages
Cold foods, especially ice cream
Cheese
Canned foods
Leftovers
In ayurveda, these foods are believed to clog the digestive system and result in excessive mucus formation. Instead, you want to eat foods that are warming and disperse toxins from the body. This includes spices like black pepper, cinnamon, garlic and ginger. Also, load up on green, leafy vegetables and drink plenty of warm water through the day.

The neti pot alone may bring fast relief to your allergy symptoms, but using all three tools may help stop your allergies from returning next year.

Homeopathic Medicines To Treat Depression!

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)

Homeopathic Medicines To Treat Depression!

Homeopathy was developed by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann who was a general physician by profession in Germany. The concept, "like cures like" may sound a bit weird, but it is proved to be successful and homeopathy treatment for any ailment is preferred worldwide.

Depression is a kind of mental ailment or disease, which could make a person lose hope of living life and results in hopelessness and sadness. There are efficient homeopathic medicines that can work to reduce the illness, especially if treated in the early stages.

Homeopathy is a reliable path to follow because it does not have any side effects, unlike antidepressants that tend to numb people. Here is a comprehensive list of homeopathic medicines that are effective in treating depression.

  • Natrum muriaticum: This homeopathic treatment is useful for mild depression or for people suffering extreme bereavement due to loss or a sudden shock.
  • Sepia: This medicine is beneficial to women suffering from postpartum depression (sadness or emotional confliction after giving birth) and menopause. Feeling of solitude and hopelessness with no energy to continue with life are some common symptoms that can be reduced with Sepia.
  • Arsenicum album: This medicine is prescribed to control the symptoms like diarrhea, gastric problems, indigestion which patients often suffer from as a result of intense anxiety. Patients, appropriate for this medicine tend to be fastidious and restless. It is made of white arsenic and should be taken in prescribed potency because an overdose can cause gastroenteritis.
  • Ignatia amara: Ignatia amara is often best for sensitive people that tend to suppress disappointment or grief. They also do not want to appear too vulnerable, defensive, moody, or guarded in the eyes of others. On occasion, they may burst into tears or laughter for no particular reason. Other symptoms may include abdominal cramps, headaches, or insomnia.
  • Gelsemium: The best natural Homeopathic medicine for treatment of anxiety especially when appearing in public is Gelsemium. Fear also accompanies anxiety in such situations. Stage fright with symptoms of anxiety is also best treated with Homeopathic medicine Gelsemium. A distinguishable symptom is nervousness with trembling of hands.  The person also feels anxious about his present, future and health. Gelsemium is also of great help in dealing with anxiety during examination. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a homeopath.
