Warning Signs of a Heart Attack Can be Found on Your Eyelids

Warning Signs of a Heart Attack Can be Found on Your Eyelids

A health condition known as xanthelasma (xanthelasma palpebrarum), a sharply demarcated yellowish deposit of fat underneath the skin, usually on or around the eyelids, has been linked to heart disease. These yellow formations occur in the upper or lower eyelid near the inner corner of the eye.
. Br>The study findings were published in the british medical journal.
The link between heart disease and xanthelasma:
Both men and women can suffer from this condition, especially after 40. These yellow growths are the result of cholesterol deposits and indicate a higher level of cholesterol in almost half of the patients affected with this condition.

These growths are soft and painless and do not affect vision. In fact, people with xanthelasma usually seek medical help because these growths are unattractive. Aesthetics is the main reason why people decide to remove them, without considering them as a warning of a more serious condition, and despite their re-emergence after removal.
A recent danish research confirmed the connection between heart disease and xanthelasma. Professor tibjaerg hansen who led the team, came to conclusions that will change the way we see these seemingly harmless growths, which are ignored as irrelevant by both patients and doctors.

Men affected with xanthelasma are at a 12% higher risk of heart attack. Men aged 70-79 are at an even higher risk.

Women with xanthelasma have an 8% higher risk of heart attack, as opposed to those who are not affected.

It has been poved that women have a lower risk of heart disease, and researchers in this study explain that in this particular group of patients, xanthelasma allows accurate prediction of heart disease.

The research concluded that xanthelasma may indicate a heart attack, severe atherosclerosis, heart disease and death, independent of other factors such as high cholesterol, obesity, smoking and high blood pressure.

The presence of xanthelasma cases in each age group indicates an increased probability of heart disease, heart attack and death. Both men and women who have these yellow growths on their eyelids are likely to experience a heart attack, and maybe they will even be life threatened in a 10-year period.

It has been proven that men are more prone to heart disease.

If these yellow growths appear on your eyelids, it is important for you to immediately check your cholesterol levels

Common causes of irregular periods: eating disorders, like anorexia and bulimia, excessive weight gain or weight loss; extreme thinness and obesity both cause your menstrual cycle to become irregular or even to disappear. Stress or emotional problems, hormonal problems, for example, when the thyroid malfunctions, travel, over-exercising: if you're an athlete and train very hard, you may stop menstruating because your body wants to survive and save energy and menstruation requires energy, problems with the pelvic organs (such as polycystic ovarian syndrome, for example) drugs like birth-control pills can affect the frequency and / or intensity of menstruation.

Please briefly tell me about iontophoresis therapy, I sweat a lot so I heard about it but not sure to go for it. When it should be done and what are the consequences, prons and cons.

General Physician (AM)
Alternative Medicine Specialist, Chandigarh
Iontophoresis is a physical process in which ions flow diffusively in a medium driven by an applied electric field. A small electric current is applied to an iontophoretic chamber placed on the skin, containing a charged active agent and its solvent vehicle. Another chamber or a skin electrode carries the return current. One or two chambers are filled with a solution containing an active ingredient and its solvent vehicle. The positively charged chamber, called the anode, will repel a positively charged chemical species, whereas the negatively charged chamber, called the cathode, will repel a negatively charged species into the skin. Your sweat glands don't shut off. They sweat even when the circumstances don’t call for it: when they’re in air conditioning, or while they’re sitting and watching television. Primary hyperhidrosis (also called focal hyperhidrosis) causes excessive sweating in the hands, underarms, face, and feet without any apparent reason. People with primary hyperhidrosis generally sweat from a certain type of sweat gland called eccrine sweat glands. These sweat glands make up the majority of the 2-4 million sweat glands in your body. Eccrine sweat glands are particularly numerous on the feet, palms, face, and armpits. When your body is overheated, when you’re moving around, when you’re feeling emotional, or as a result of hormones, then nerves activate the sweat glands. When those nerves overreact, it causes hyperhidrosis.

How To Tell If You Have Computer Vision Syndrome (And How to Fix It)

How To Tell If You Have Computer Vision Syndrome (And How to Fix It)

Computers, while wonderful, routinely stress your eyes. A name actually exists for this eyestrain—computer vision syndrome (CVS), and it’s often the No. 1 office health complaint.

You may have suffered from CVS symptoms after a long day at the ’puter yourself: fatigue, headache, dry eye, pain around the eyes, and trouble maintaining your focus. Your eyes are used to seeing sharp, well-defined details and contrasts, but computer screens flash soft images, which your eyes constantly try to put in better focus. Making a few minor adjustments to your screen time, however, can help you avoid CVS.

1. Use proper lighting. When on the computer, your ambient lighting should be about one-half that used in most offices. Bright ambient light causes glare. Reduce it by closing drapes, shades, or blinds and using lower-intensity bulbs. Also, try to position your monitor so the windows are to the sides of the monitor instead of in front or back of it.

2. Cut glare further. Install an antiglare screen, paint bright white walls a darker color with a matte finish, or use a computer hood.

3. Adjust the monitor. Position it 20 to 30 inches from your eyes or about an arm’s length away. The top should be at or below eye level.

4. Increase the font. If you constantly lean forward to read small type, switch to a larger font size, or zoom in to increase the page size.

5. Blink, blink, and blink. You blink about five times less than normal when on the computer, according to optometrist Larry K. Wan, OD, with the Family EyeCare Center in Campbell, California. This can trigger dry eyes. To keep your eyes well-lubricated, try this: Every 30 minutes, blink 10 times by closing your eyes very slowly as if falling asleep.

6. Take 10. Make sure to take a 10-minute break each hour. And every 30 minutes, do this exercise: Look away from the screen, and focus on a distant object for about five to 10 seconds. Or look far away at an object for 10 to 15 seconds and then nearby for 10 to 15 seconds. Go back and forth 10 times.

7. Do an eye meditation. Rub your palms quickly together until they feel warm. Cup them over your closed eyes. Feel the heat emanating from your palms, but don’t touch your eyelids. “You want complete blackness, and it takes about six minutes to get rid of any afterimages,” says Meir Schneider, PhD, LMT, of the School of Self-Healing in San Francisco. Sit quietly in this position, and slow your breathing to a steady rise and fall. This deep relaxation helps to soothe both eyes and body. Do this at least three times a day or whenever you need a quick eye break.

5 Shockingly Deadly Effects Of Firecrackers On Your Health

5 Shockingly Deadly Effects Of Firecrackers On Your Health
5 Shockingly Deadly Effects Of Firecrackers On Your Health

Think Diwali and you can’t help but think of firecrackers. The festival of lights is synonymous with the bursting of firecrackers all night long. But stop a minute to think: are burning firecrackers really good for your health? The answer would be a resounding ‘No!’ Bringing out the fireworks is not only bad for the environment, the old and the infirm, and the animals all around, but it is also bad for you. Here are 5 deadly effects of firecrackers on your health that perhaps we tend to ignore every Diwali!

1. Harmful for your ears: First and foremost, you can’t deny the loud booms and bangs of firecrackers; and considering the trend these days, the louder the better. An average human being can bear noise levels of up to a maximum of 85 decibels. Sound produced by firecrackers can go as high as 140 decibels! That’s way beyond what human ears can handle, and such high levels can cause hearing impairments and even permanent ear damage. Increased heartbeat and high blood pressure are other things you can suffer from due to excessively high noise levels.

2. Injuries and burns: This is something you do know. A lot of burns and injuries take place due to unsafe practices used while bursting firecrackers. Burns on the hands and legs are pretty common, especially among children. In fact, in some serious cases a misfired rocket or a chocolate bomb can lead to massive fires, which is, needless to say, definitely not good for you and your health.

3. Respiratory and skin troubles: When you launch the fireworks one after the other, you give rise to excessive smoke. This smoke contains miniscule metallic particles, which produce very dense and foggy smog. A lot of road accidents take place because of this obstruction in visibility. The chemicals in this smog are specifically harmful for those suffering from asthma and other respiratory diseases. In fact, these chemicals can also give rise to skin rashes, sinusitis, eye infections, headaches and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD). Children and pregnant women seem to fall into the high-risk zones.

4. Stomach Problems: While lighting firecrackers, or by simply holding them in your hands, your body absorbs the chemicals they are composed of. Even washing hands is not enough to get rid of these hazardous chemicals entirely. Minute traces of these are left in your hands, which are ingested while you have your meals. This can lead to indigestion, and other digestive problems. Even the water you consume becomes tainted with the pollution in the air at this time of the year, making it unfit for consumption.

5. Other health hazards: Nausea and mental impairment, and even heart attack are some of the other things that can happen to you while indulging in the fireworks fun. Sleeping disturbance is another common problem faced at this time of the year. The loud noise gives rise to sleepless nights for many, and results in fatigue the next day.

Before watching the sparkles, colours and magical lights of fire crackers this Diwali, be sure to ask yourself, is it really worth it?

WISH YOU A HAPPY AND SAFE DIWALI!

Once you cross 18, you tend to lose about 1,000 brain cells every day. The brain is always at work without a moment’s rest, even when you're asleep! When you sleep, apart from letting you dream, the brain works overtime to replenish its ability to function normally in the daytime.

The kegel exercise is a simple and commonly used by men whose erectile dysfunction is caused by impaired circulation. The basic technique consists of tightening and relaxing the pelvic muscles that controls urination. Since the muscle is internal and is sometimes difficult to isolate, doctors often recommend practicing while urinating on the toilet. The patient tries to contract the muscle until the flow of urine is slowed or stopped and then releases it. People should perform 5 to 15 contractions, attempting to hold each contraction for 10 seconds, three to five times daily, if you have erectile dysfunction or lack of stiff, hard and strong erection then the size of the penis will not be attained fully which needs correct treatment to improve the blood circulation to attain full erection which in turn gives you, your natural and full penis size. Dear holistic treatment is available, safe and without side effects in biochemic system of medication.

Sleep on The Left Side is Good For Health

Sleep on The Left Side is Good For Health
Your sleeping position has an important influence on your digestive tract. In the past, monks preferred to lie down after their meals for ten minutes to improve their digestion.

Moreover, both Ayurveda (the most ancient oriental medicine) and the Indian alternative medicine advice their followers to sleep on the left side. Wondering why?

The left side of the human body is considered to be the dominant lymphatic side. Most of your body’s lymph flows into the thoracic duct, which is located on the left side. In its way, the lymph carries proteins, glucose, other metabolites and waste material.

It is purified in the lymph nodes and later drained into the left part of the human heart

Ingrown hairs or infected hair follicles often lead to the development of boils. Shaving your pubic area can lead to ingrown hairs, which can in turn lead to the development of boils. If you want to shave your pubic area, do it in the shower or bath when the hair is wet, use a very sharp razor and shave in the direction of the hair growth to help prevent ingrown hairs.
