I am a 24 year old male and have backache for last 2 year. What should I do?

Orthopedist,
I am a 24 year old male and have backache for last 2 year. What should I do?
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

Doctor Of Physical Therapy (DPT), Bachelor of Physical Therapy
Physiotherapist,
I have several aches on my back and also on my forearm. What should I do?
Back ache can be due to several reasons. It can be muscular, related to disc degeneration or prolapse, joint irritation or nerve pinching. Most common is muscle pain due to tight and weak back and abdominal muscles. Keep a positive attitude, focus more on keeping good posture especially when sitting for long hours, use lumbar support. Take frequent breaks and stretch in between. Try changing sleeping habits. Try hot or cold therapy as tolerated. Wish you speedy recovery forearm pain can be due to tendonitis or just due to tight muscles. Physiotherapy can help wth stretching and strengthening for forearm muscles.

Identify the mid point between the ankle bone and tendons and give pressure with a blunt edge on either side of your foot for 2 minutes. Also give pressure in the web between 2nd and 3rd finger from your toe for 2 minutes. Finally give a good massage for both feet in hot water. This will relieve your problem. Consult after 10 days.

I am suffering from knee pain from last 2 days and when I start walking it gets more.

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT

I am suffering from knee pain from last 2 days and when I start walking it gets more.
Knee pain is a common complaint that affects people of all ages. Knee pain may be the result of an injury or some other medical conditions including arthritis, patellar tendinitis, acl injury, knee bursitis, torn meniscus, gout and infections. Try some home remedies for your pain- - ice is useful for the control of pain and swelling. It can be applied to the knee for 15 to 20 minutes as often as every two to four hours. The swollen knee should be elevated above the level of the heart while icing. -activities that cause pain should be avoided temporarily. -if the knee is swollen or sore, the following positions and activities should be avoided until knee pain and swelling resolve: squatting kneeling twisting and pivoting jogging aerobics, dancing playing sport specific exercises will help you improve range of motion, strength, and endurance. It is especially important to focus on strengthening and stretching your quadriceps since these muscles are the main stabilizers of your kneecap. Core exercises may also be recommended to strengthen the muscles in your abdomen and lower back. Also maintaining a healthy body weight to avoid overstressing your knees are very important. -a full history of your problem should be taken and your movements assessed by a physiotherapist. Please consult a physiotherapist for the same. Best wishes.

That is called as Lumbar Vertebrae. And there are 5 Lumbar Vertebrae and the 5th Lumbar Vertebrae is anatomically is located in the lower end where the body weight is taken and it is generally fused with If your pain is there for many years then it is chronic pain. Ice can be kept in the low back where you have back pain. It is suggestible to wear Lumbo sacral belt which would help you to build the abdominal muscle tone which itself would make you feel better. You can also wear MCR chappals which would help you to have less weight falling in the painful back. Sacral Vertebrae. That is where the Sciatic nerve passes by and the nerve gets compressed that's the reason you have pain and sensation is disturbed. Pain in the left side of the leg/thigh The compression of the sciatic nerve should be around the right side that's the reason you have pain in the left side. That's the reason you cannot sit or stand and it is exactly around the L5 vertebrae where the sciatic nerve passes by. . It can also be due to the strain on the left leg, try wearing MCR chappals which would help you to get relieved from pain Physiotherapy Treatment If you have low back pain and sciatica you can undergo intermittent pelvic traction where in your half of your body weight will be added in the electronic traction so that that would help you to reduce the pain, along with Interferential therapy stimulations which would help you to get relieved from the radiating pain. Apply ice for the pain to get subsided immediately.

Dear, herniated disc c4-5 means you have cervical spondylosis the pain in legs is not related and swelling too needs evaluation by a physician. Once diagnosis is made then you can get result. Pain killers are not an answer but only to buy time.
