You know the cause of your backpain- studying on bed so Correct it. 1. Use table chair for studies. Chair with back rest and feet should rest on floor. 2. Take analgesics like paracetamol for relief and start back stretcheingle and strengthening exercises once pain is relieved. 3. Apply warm water bag on back for 10 mins 4 times a day. 4. Take breaks in between study and take a walk. 5. Do not bend and lift weights. 6. Go for activities like swimming. If your problem is persistent consult again.

Hello, everyone. I am Dr Anubhav Gupta. I am a consultant cosmetic surgeon at Sir Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi.

Today I am going to discuss the nerve and brachial plexus injury.

What is nerve Injury?

In our body, from the brain to all other parts there is a network of nerves which sends the signal and tell us what to do. So if there is any injury in the network of filaments called nerves, then it is called as nerve injury.

What is Brachial Plexus?

A brachial plexus is a group of nerves which helps our hands to function. It starts from the spinal cord through the shoulder to the arm and to the hand. If there is any particular part which damages the neck that is called as Brachial plexus injury.

How long should I wait before being evaluated by my physician after the injury?

Whenever this nerve injury happens, these are the closed injuries. You will not see anything on the surface but you may have paralysed or weakness of a particular part. So as soon as the weakness, there is some numbness or there is paralysis of any part of the body. You should immediately contact your plastic surgeon.

Can a Brachial plexus injury be treated?

If you would have asked this question 20 years ago, then I would have said NO. But now, it is possible to treat them and with very good results.

What will happen if I do not take any treatment?

See what happens is, all the muscles in the body are innervated. If there is any injury in the nerves then it will cause weakness and ultimately paralysis of these muscles. Now, these muscles become paralyse then all these joints become stiff. S it is like a machinery if the current is not going then ultimately you will end up with that particular part of body useless.

How long does it take to after the nerve surgery for the function to return?

This is a very good question. Most patients do not realize. Basically, it is a scientific fact that whenever we have an injury to a nerve. Let us say suppose there is an injury to this level, then the part which is distilled to this becomes degenerated. When we repair, when we do the surgery, it gradually moves. It moves with the speed of 1mm per day after a latent period of 1 month. So approximately 2.5 cm (1 inch) per month. So it takes few months to function. Immediately after the surgery, you cannot expect the movement of the hand. It takes some time and it is scientifically calculated that how it comes.

I get poking points below my heel every morning when I wake up and walk until appx 10/15 minutes and some times during de day if I have sat at 1place for more then 30minutest. I have checked my uric acid and it normal as well as all other profile is also good No diabetes just a bit of castroal.

It is because of calcaneal spur below heal. Use shoes with soft soles. Dip your feet daily for 15 minutes in lukewarm water loaded with common salt.

My mother feeling pain all body. Last 15 years she is suffering bone pain in the joint of hand and backrest. That time it was not serious, but now this problem is very serious. She can not stand or sit or walk more than 25 minute. When she cut vegetables, talk in phone, watch TV, or travel in train, she fell a kind of pain in (neck back) to shoulder. - your mother is suffering from pivd (in cervical and lower back) - check got vit d, b12, uric acid level. - do neck and back exercises after full asessment by physiotherapist. She will recover her pain but needs to sincerely follow precautions. 1 avoid any weight lifting 2 use of firm matress 3 no forward bending 4 use of lumbar support belt.

Dear lybrate-user first of all congrats. Then post natal exercises we start from day 2 after c section delivery. Kindly avoid bending activities n the exercises start from the base and then move on to advance level. Dnt worry we can work things up. And then there are certain things like baby feeding position, stair climbing n all and a list of wat to do n wat not to do. N your diet also. So its right time to start exercises without furthur delay for back, neck, pelvic floor n abdominal.

Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

I am a 42 year male suffering from hypothyroidism since 2 years. Now I am taking 150 microgram thyroxin. At times I feel joint pain, speech trouble and back pain. Is there a cure for it or not. What would be the diet, precaution and measures to be taken.

Hypothyroidism can lead to a wide spectrum of issues like myalgia, fatigue, weight gain etc. For your joint pain, initially you can start with anti inflammatory medications, start with intensive physical therapy, take adequate calcium and vitamin d supplementation and let me know in 2-3 weeks time how you are feeling. 4 tips to minimize long-term knee damage and heal faster

- Correct muscular imbalance: Most overuse injuries of the knee develop gradually due to muscular imbalances and poor movement patterns. Your physiotherapist can show you corrective exercises to address the muscle imbalances and improve the way you move.
- Strengthen your hips: Strengthening your hips and improving core muscle strength will reduce the risk of adversely loading your knee joints. Stretching the muscles that attach into your hips/knees/ankles will also minimize compression of these joints. Your physiotherapist can show you how.
- Protect your joints: If you have any degenerative changes in your knees (e. G. Osteoarthritis) your physiotherapist can show you how to protect your joints during activities of daily living, prescribe exercises to improve the strength of supporting muscles, advise you on safe forms of exercise, and assess your footwear.
- Correct movement patterns: Poor movement patterns during sports (e. G. Incorrect landings during jumping) greatly increase the risk of traumatic knee injuries. Your physiotherapist can teach you how to move properly and minimize this risk.
