Baby boy 3.5 months old had his 3rd DTaP vaccine yesterday. Previous 2 doses were painless ones. Baby didn't get fever at all. Is it okay? Does it mean that the Baby is not producing enough antibodies to fight? Please clarify my doubt! Thank you.

Painless are called so because the painful (for mothers) side effects like fever irritability swelling are less. They are efficacious but now painful are recommended because they produce better immunity. But nothing to worry.

If taking milk more than decrease its amount and add solid food items. The consistency of the food shud be a little thick and add some extra ghee/oil in the infant's food.

Is it safe to give pedicloryl syrup to 4 months old baby? if yes then in what quantity? the baby is all the time cranky and is not having proper sleep. Only sleep for an hour max and thn wakes up and cry. Please suggest what to do?

DNB (Pediatrics), Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Bhiwadi
No medication is advisable for a routine problem so I would not recommend you to give pedicloryl for it as it would only give a immediate relief but would not solve the root problem. It is important to identify the problem. Inadequate feeding, improper sleeping atmosphere or temperature (too warm or too cold) too much noise etc. Are some of the most common problems. A healthy baby feeds for 15-20 mins at one time which should be followed by burping for 10-15 mins for a comfortable stomach and sleep. Try to look for the root problem before turning to medicine.

Dear Sir/Madam, My daughter is 6 years old, above the buttocks there is a small hole are there. There is no pus are coming and no hair on it, whether she have to do surgery for that problem?

DNB (Pediatrics), Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Bhiwadi
By the sound of it, feels like what is called a sacral dimple. Can the floor of the dimple be seen to be covered with skin? If not, get it checked. Is there a tuft of hair in the dimple? This may also indicate problems. Are there any other problems such as weakness in lower limbs. How close to the buttocks is the dimple? The lower, the better. It is a very common and mildest form of Spina bifida. Nothing normally needs to be done. However u can get a ultrasound abdomen to look for associated anomalies (if any).
