YOu can try natural methods or need medicines . 5 Ways to Fight Depression If you feel depressed, it's best to do something about it — depression doesn't just go away on its own. In addition to getting help from a doctor or therapist, here are 5 things you can do to feel better. 1. Exercise. Take a 15- to 30-minute brisk walk every day — or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer. People who are depressed may not feel much like being active. In addition to getting aerobic exercise, some yoga poses can help relieve feelings of depression. Two other aspects of yoga — breathing exercises and meditation — can also help people with depression feel better. 2. Nurture yourself with good nutrition. Depression can affect appetite. One person may not feel like eating at all, but another might overeat.. Proper nutrition can influence a person's mood and energy. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and get regular meals (even if you don't feel hungry, try to eat something light, like a piece of fruit, to keep you going). 3. Identify troubles, but don't dwell on them. Try to identify any situations that have contributed to your depression. When you know what's got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding. 4. Express yourself. With depression, a person's creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked. Exercise your imagination (painting, drawing, doodling, sewing, writing, dancing, composing music, etc.) and you not only get those creative juices flowing, you also loosen up some positive emotions. Take time to play with a friend or a pet, or do something fun for yourself. Find something to laugh about — a funny movie, perhaps. Laughter helps lighten your mood. 5.Try to notice good things. Depression affects a person's thoughts, making everything seem dismal, negative, and hopeless. If depression has you noticing only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. Most of all, don't forget to be patient with yourself. Depression takes time to heal. If you are happy with these answers please click on "useful” link so that I can know my efforts are not wasted. If you want more clarifications please ask me directly and not in open questions session It's not easy to say exactly what causes depression and anxiety – it's different for everyone. Sometimes a difficult time in you or your mates' life can set off depression or anxiety, sometimes it's caused by a combination of things that has built up over time and sometimes, there's just no obvious cause at all. Some risk factors for men developing depression or anxiety include: • Physical health problems • Relationship problems • Employment problems • Social isolation • Significant change in living arrangements (e.g. separation or divorce) • Pregnancy and birth of a baby • Drug and alcohol use.

I am 20 years old I had sex with my boyfriend for the first time but I didn't get bleed he had doubt on me that i'm not virgin. But I know how much dedicated I am to him but he is not yet all trust me. What should I do?

M.S. Counselling and Psychotherapy
Psychologist, Bangalore
Dear lybrate user, I can imagine how hurtful it must be for you when your boyfriend is doubting your character. I think, you both need little sex education. When a girl has intercourse for the first time, she is likely to have some bleeding because the hymen breaks when the penis enters the vagina. But please understand that the hymen can get torned even while playing, trekking, cycling or doing any other rigorous physical activity. At the same time in some cases, a girl can have sex but the hymen may remain intact. So whether a girl bleeds or does not bleed at the time of first intercourse, is not a sign of virginity. Please talk to your boyfriend about it or ask him to talk to a doctor.

When I read book with out any consentrasyn that why my reading don't capture my memory. Please tail what to Do?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

Because of your age you may experience more problems due to the distractions of your hormones. I suspect that the adolescent issues with regard to hormones may be affecting your ability to concentrate and remember. When the hormones play up, it lasts for a period of close to two years and during that time you could be influenced by three signs directly impacted by the chemical: you will tend to become aggressive and rebellious, you will become sexually active, and you will have acne and pimple problems. The hormonal imbalances may not only impact your memory because of the chemical but also bring some distractions that come with it. But you may work on the following even if the hormones kick in: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food.

I have been smoking since 2000, I would like to quit smoking, but its very hard for me, could you help me to quit smoking, or could you prescribe a medicine to quit smoking?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), Masters in psychology counselling
Psychologist, Hyderabad
Dear Lybrate-user, it is good that you wants to stop smoking, we are destroying our health by smoking normal human takes oxygen into lungs 12 -15 times per minute (12 - 15 breaths) Lungs mixes oxygen in our blood and it purifies our blood, by smoking we are mixing not only oxygen adding and mixing bad elements like Nicotine etc. In Oxygen, that spoils our blood and our body organs like Lungs, Heart, kidney etc… How to quit: By willingness and willpower" where there is a will there is a way" Reduce one by one day by day.

I am 43 yeas old and from last six months, sometimes I feel that my heart is beating very fast and noise of the same is heard by me, mainly at nights. After dinner I feel heaviness sometimes, Whereas my stress echo was normal, ECG was ok. Still I have been suggested to undergo ANGIOGRAPHY. KINDLY ADVICE.

It is likely that there is a non-cardiac cause for this. Angiography may be done to rule out even a remote possibility of heart disease, and you can go ahead with it. If it is normal, then a psychiatrist consultation will be needed. In the meantime, get a thyroid profile and complete hemogram done (if not already done). If they are okay and angiography is normal, and you are cleared by the cardiologist, anti-anxiety medicines such as paroxetine or escitalopram or propranolol may prove very useful to you. These are not sleeping pills and will not make you drowsy. Take care!

Due to depression or stress it will occur problem such as weight gain, indigestion?
Definitely lybrate-user. In a kind of depression called as atypical depression, persons eat more and don't have energy to exercise. They gain weight. During stress, the digestion gets shut down because the heart has to supply more blood to other parts of the body to fight stress or fly away from stress. Please remember that they are many other causes for weight gain and indigestion that need to be diagnosed and treated by a physician.

I am 30 years old and my wife is 26 years. We got married in 2012, February and its been 4.5 years around we are trying for a baby but unfortunately not successful. I am worrying about one issue like people says that time is very precious and after that nothing can be done. I am taking very tensions for small small things and trying to become cool and calm but it is again not done. Even we both are having some words disputes in which I always harsh on her and for which I think it should not be done as I found to be guilty. When we sometime have a mood to do for a baby we need something to help like laptop/movie to have some mood to reach out there to do. I hope you understand. Also we can not do for long last and complete withing 10 minutes. I am taking some medicines also of himalaya like Gokshura/seacod/ and one more virkshmala. Hi lybrate-user, first of all, de stress yourself, this is a part and phase of life not your whole life, do not let it define you. The stress you are taking will take toll on your body and it is because of this reason that you are not excited enough when its time to get intimate. Don't think about baby while having sex, think of it as something that gives you pleasure focus on your partner. Do not smoke, drink, have dark chocolates and fresh fruits, more garlic and dates. Do kegels exercise for sustained erection. You need some therapy for your stress too. Consult a psychologist. You can consult me for same. All the best.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Yes. Negative thoughts are always a problem for aspiring young people. There are many methods to overcome negative thoughts. Start with these three steps. 1. Every time you catch yourself thinking a negative thought, replace the thought with a positive one. 2. If you catch yourself visualizing failure, visualize success instead. 3. If you hear yourself using negative words in your conversation, switch to positive words. After you are sure you did this for around one week, come back to me. I would provide more step by step instructions. Take care.

Yes counselling helps to get back your confidence in different situations. As you grow older you will be thrown in different situations which you may have never faced before. But it will be important for you to master the art of changes so that you can excel in your life. I suggest that you don't label yourself as an introvert because you will start behaving accordingly and you could find it very difficult to undo the damage done.
