Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. SPRING BEDS, FOLDING BEDS OR THICK MATRESS ARE HARMFUL Use no pillow under the head. DO HOT FOMANTATION. Paracetamol 250mg OD & SOS x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab OD x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, contact me again.. Do not ignore .It could be beginning of a serious problem.

I'm suffering from mild joint pain specially in small joints in fingers. RA factor is positive. Kindly advice.

I'm suffering from mild joint pain specially in small joints in fingers. RA factor is positive. Kindly advice.
It is called as Rheumatic arthritis. If your pain is more in the distal joints, ie. In the upper limbs if the pain is present in the fingers/wrist and in the lower limbs it the pain is present in the toes/ ankle, then we shall definitely say it is Rheumatic arthritis. Feel warm and that will make the joints become firm. Hot water fermentation will help And also immerse the distal joints in the hot water tub which will help you to reduce the pain. Consult the near by physiotherapy clinic and also consult a general physician to check with your ESR levels to check whether you have inflammation. Physiotherapy management: UST can be done and SWD or IRR also can be done.

Hi You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation.

Dear Doctor, Since last one week frequently my right hand and small and ring fingers are also getting numbed slightly but not completely and I am feeling that for long time. One more thing is this happens to me after the very next day of night shift I usually attend at office (but I sleep at least 4 hrs though). And 'm really getting afraid so much. Is it any kind of serious? please help me out by suggesting something to cure it.

Dear Doctor,
Since last one week frequently my right hand and small and ring fingers are also getting numbed slightly...
Probably is caused by compression of the c8 nerve in your neck. Usually this is caused by mild arthritis of the neck. Make sure you are not placing your body in a odd position in work e.g. Sleeping in a chair and make sure you are following proper ergonomic precautions. If your symptoms don't resolve then see a neurologist in person.

I am 73 years old. I have ligament tear problem it is proving difficult to walk because of imbalance while walking. I have really no pain and less stability in left knee joint. Some orthopedic doctors say osteoarthritis is setting in, and some say ligament tear is there and better to do ortho scopy. Key hole surgery ihave x-rays and ct scan done.

Fellowship in Shoulder and Knee Surgeries, DNB (Orthopedics), Diploma In Orthopaedics (D. Ortho), MBBS

Well, for ligament injury, arthroscopy surgery is done and ligament is reconstructed. At 73, I would prefer not to do this as results in this age are not known. Usually this surgery is done in younger and more active population. For you, it would be appropriate to use donjoy knee brace for acl tear. Perform hamstring strengthening exercises and you would be good.

Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery - Understanding the Benefits!

Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery - Understanding the Benefits!

Humans are prone to much more complex and extensive experiences in life than any other animal species, this is because we also enjoy highly developed cognition and mental abilities in comparison to the other species. However, our cognitive abilities also mean that we are more prone to bad experiences and health issues that may require intensive treatment or even at times surgeries.

Having to undergo a surgery may sound like an exceptionally difficult or painful prospect, but with the help of modern medical practices and the use of state of the art technology and equipment, there are times when patents are able to get excellent results. One among many such advanced practices is the use of minimally invasive spine surgeries.

There may be times when we may injure ourselves or may develop health issues that make it difficult for us to go about our daily lives and at such times a surgery on the spine may be required. It is however, risky to carry out a full-fledged surgery on the spine because of the fact that our movements in general and the central nervous system may be put at great risk when the spine is tweaked or worked with. This is one of the biggest reasons why modern medical practitioners suggest and prefer carrying out the minimally invasive surgery.

Understanding the practice:
In order to be able to develop a conviction for the practice, it is important to make sure that you understand the practice in general. As the name suggests, the surgery is done in a manner in which large incisions are not made on the spinal region and the procedure is done only by the creation of a small hole. The surgery is carried out with the use of non-conventional tools that can be manoeuvred through smaller openings and the process is carried out with the help of a small incision around the spinal region.

Advantages of the minimally invasive surgery:
As opposed to the regular open surgery, there are a lot of advantages for the patients that opt to undergo the minimal surgical procedure.

  1. The biggest advantage is that the patients are able to recover much sooner and the pain is also cut down to a minimal level because of the surgical opening being so small.
  2. The muscles that get affected due to the surgery heal much faster and they do not have any long term side-effects which is much more common in a conventional surgical procedure.
  3. The chances of damage to the spine are cut down to a great extent because it is minimally exposed during the surgery.
  4. Finally, the time taken for the procedure and the after care is also brought down because of the simplicity of the surgical procedure.

As we step into an era of advanced medical practices, it may be important to quickly adopt and adapt to the new age practices so that a better future for patients may be carved out and established all across the world. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult an orthopedist.
