You may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash after every meals.

According to your age, implant is the best option available to replace the missing tooth another option is a 3 unit bridge. It is not so conservative.

Dental Caries

MDS, B.D.S
Dentist, Kanpur
Dental Caries

Sudden tooth pain is usually a sign of cavities or dental caries. This is the most common form of oral disease that affects people across the world. A cavity can affect a person at any age. Caries can be categorized under two headings: pit and fissure caries and surface caries. The former usually affect the horizontal planes of the molars and the back planes of the teeth in front. Surface caries are usually found at the joints between two teeth and the gum line.

Dental caries are formed over a period of time. The earlier they are addressed, the less the damage caused and the less painful it is. Bacteria is the root cause of this problem. This bacteria causes sugar in your food to turn into acid. When the acid and bacteria are combined together, it forms plaque. This plaque dissolves the minerals in the enamel coating of a tooth and creates pits. These get larger with time and gradually the softer dentin layer below the enamel also gets decayed. This is when the patient feels a toothache. If the tooth is not addressed at this stage, the roots of the tooth can also get decayed leading to the tooth needing to be extracted.

Dental caries usually have no symptoms until the damage is done. The only way to diagnose it in its early stages is by a dental examination. Hence, it is essential to schedule dental exams every six months. If you skipped a dental exam, a toothache or increased sensitivity to hot or cold food can be taken as a sign of a cavity.

The treatment for a cavity depends on the extent of the damage caused.

A filling is the most common form of treatment for a cavity. This involves the removal of decayed tooth material and the use of a material such as silver, gold, porcelain or composite resin to replace it.

Your dentist may also choose to fit a crown on the tooth. This is done is there is extensive tooth damage and only a limited tooth structure is left. As with a filling, the decayed part of the tooth is removed and a crown made of gold or porcelain is fitted over the tooth.

If the cavity reaches an advanced stage where the nerve within the tooth dies; your dentist may want to perform a root canal. This involves the removal of the inner part of the tooth along with all the pulp and nerve cells. A sealant is then filled into the emptied areas.

According to your age you must have history of bleeding from gums or bad breath or any history of systemic disease like diabetease b. P. If it is so rule out the proper cause of swelling or any bone loss in jawbone then will discuss about t/t till that you can go for warm salinegargles.

Hello, Halitosis, colloquially called bad breath, or fetor oris, is a symptom in which a noticeably unpleasant odor is present on the exhaled breath. Of those who have genuine halitosis, often the odor is caused by bacteria present below the gumline and on the back of the tongue. The remaining 10% is accounted for by many different conditions, including disorders in the nasal cavity, sinuses, throat, lungs, esophagus, stomach or elsewhere. Very rarely, halitosis can be one of many symptoms of a serious underlying medical condition such as liver failure; but, in the vast majority of cases, the cause is minor and can often be reduced by adjustments to oral hygiene, including brushing or gently scraping the back of the tongue and improving the health of the gums by using dental floss. The intensity of bad breath may differ during the day, due to eating certain foods (such as garlic, onions, meat, fish, and cheese), smoking,[12] and alcohol consumption. Since the mouth is exposed to less oxygen[medical citation needed] and is inactive during the night, the odor is usually worse upon awakening ("morning breath"). Bad breath may be transient, often disappearing following eating, drinking, tooth brushing, flossing, or rinsing with specialized mouthwash. Use SBL’s Homeodent toothpaste twice (morning & night) a day daily.

Extraction Is It the End or Beginning of a Dental Problems?

Extraction Is It the End or Beginning of a Dental Problems?

Removal of teeth is gradually not the first option for a lot of dental issues. However, a large number of dental infections and other causes end in extraction. The front teeth, because of their visibility, are more likely to be replaced. The back teeth often go un-replaced, though they play a higher role in terms of food digestion and function. In many patients, reasons for impaired bite and crooked tooth are traced back to failure to replace a removed tooth. (Learn more to maintain healthy teeth)

Let us look at the some of the issues as a result of not replacing a missing tooth:

  1. Reduced chewing/digestive efficiency: The back teeth play a significant role in chewing the food and contributing to the initial stage of digestion. The salivary enzymes play a significant role in digestion when the food is chewed and removal of back teeth tends to make people swallow food faster than if good amount of chewing were to happen. Studies show that loss of each posterior tooth (molars especially) reduces tooth efficiency by 10%.
  2. Malocclusion: A malocclusion happens due to the empty space created, into which 3 teeth are trying to move. The tooth before and after the empty space tend to slowly tilt towards the empty space in between. Also, the opposing upper or lower tooth supra erupts into this space.  Each tooth plays a critical role in maintaining the adjacent and opposing tooth in place, which is lost when a tooth is not replaced after removal.
  3. Bone loss: The tooth also is essential for maintaining healthy bone, and if not replaced, it can lead to accelerated loss of alveolar bone.  Good bone support is very essential for construction of dentures, especially in old age, when complete dentures which are almost always removable need to be done. This is true especially in the lower teeth, where denture retention is a big challenge.
  4. Extra pressure on other teeth: Not replacing a tooth puts additional pressure on the remaining teeth, leading to accelerated bone loss and wearing off of the enamel.
  5. Esthetics: There will be a sinking in of the face when back teeth are not replaced, leading to a puckering.

So, the next time, tooth loss is inevitable, ensure you plan how to replace it in the earliest possible time period. The more it is delayed, the more difficult it is to replace it and the more expensive it will turn out for the patient. Fixed dentures or removable dentures can be the options, depending on age, food habits, finances, etc. Implants also could be another option, which is the new-age solution for replacing teeth.  A detailed discussion with your dentist, ahead of removal will help you plan better. Dry mouth, a common side effect of taking medications, is a condition that leaves the mouth without enough saliva to wash away food from your teeth. This can increase your risk for developing gum disease

It may be rhanula i.e. Cystic collection of saliva in salivary glands. Antibiotics may not help you. Surgery to remove that swelling will be ideal treatment.

Dear lybrate-user, brush regularly with vertical up and down strokes. Cleaning every part of the mouth is very important. If you have a history of tobacco or gurkha chewing it is the most possible that you might be suffering from gingivitis.

Usually mouth ulcer in old age will come due to lack of nutrients particularly vitamins, either in the diet or her body is not able to take from the food. Or due to stress or lack of sleep. Keep her happy ultimately she will have good sleep and reduced stress, ask her to eat properly so that she get all the nutrients. If not improving consult a physician, ulcer may be due to gastric problem.

Hi, the yellow color of your teeth might be because of stains which can be superficial and deep or even it might be the natural hue of your teeth. If the they stains are superficial they can be removed by a complete scaling procedure. Deeper stains can be removed by bleaching which can also lighten the yellow shade of your teeth to a certain extent.

How long mouth sore take to heal having on left cheek from last 6 day with painful.

BDS, MDS
Dentist, Gorakhpur
If the sore is not associated with chronic cheek bite or any tobacco related habit, it can be healed within 1 to 2 weeks time by its own. Problem is these ulcers can come again and again (recurrent aphthous) and needs to be treated by experts. By the time you can apply dologel, Amlexanox over the ulcer 3 to 4 times daily for 3 to 4 minutes, you must visit a dentist if problem is not rectified. THANK YOU.

Professional cleaning n polishing of teeth by dentist removes all external stains. If the stains r due to internal factors (such as fluorosis, enamel defects etc), teeth whitening will be required
