I had daughter and age is 1 year, my wife deceased at the time of delivery, from that time my daughter is staying at my in-laws place now they are not giving my daughter. What should I do, should I leave my daughter there or get back to my home, ours is a joint family please, suggest me the right decision to take.

It is very unfortunate that the little girl lost her mother & is deprived of that very precious bond. Now you have more responsibilities towards your baby. You have to give her quality time so that she gets the adequate love, care & emotional support, & a healthy attachment bonding grow up between you two. The love & concern however should be balanced, as both over pampering and in-sensitiveness may spoil her. It is always healthy for a child if she grow up in a protective, healthy & balanced environment among own people. She requires proper guidance, support, love, so that she can grow up to be a good individual with impressive personality & principles. If ladies are there in the house she will get motherly care. A lady can also understand a girl’s sentiment better. You better evaluate the environment in both houses, your own one & your in-laws one & decide practically & rationally which place will contribute most to the over all development of your child, where she will get balanced love & care, where she can form strong attachment bonding, which environment will be protective, where she will get a good environment to study & grow in career etc. Keep her in that house where you feel the development & upbringing of your daughter will be best.

How to improve memory power. I am suffering from weak memory power and can not memorise after few days while my exams on 31 may. please suggest beneficial and safe medicines only.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
No medicines are going to help you to imp[rove memory. You can instead do the following seriously for better results: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem-solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning, at least, five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position, you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There is some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food. You may also include these noted foods that are good for your brain health: Brain-Friendly Foods MIND stands for Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay. But the MIND approach “specifically includes foods and nutrients that medical literature and data show to be good for the brain, such as berries,” says Martha Clare Morris, ScD, director of nutrition and nutritional epidemiology at Rush University Medical Center. You eat things from these 10 food groups: • Green leafy vegetables (like spinach and salad greens): At least six servings a week • Other vegetables: At least one a day • Nuts: Five servings a week • Berries: Two or more servings a week • Beans: At least three servings a week • Whole grains: Three or more servings a day • Fish: Once a week • Poultry (like chicken or turkey): Two times a week • Olive oil: Use it as your main cooking oil. • Wine: One glass a day You avoid: • Red meat: Less than four servings a week • Butter and margarine: Less than a tablespoon daily • Cheese: Less than one serving a week • Pastries and sweets: Less than five servings a week • Fried or fast food: Less than one serving a week

Sir I am suffering from some anxiety and depression since last one and half year. I consulted a psychologist she preferred me tricyclic antidepressant, imipramine, but that has so many side effects. Now I am taking fluoxetine, prozac, at my own, and somewhat I feel good but that is making me excessive yawning. Is that normal, should I keep taking it or I should stop it.

I would strongly advise against taking psychotropic drugs without prescription. There are minimum and maximum therapeutic doses and only a clinician can guide you so you don't suffer any serious side effects. Please see a psychiatrist.

I feel sad for you, sudden loss of life partner is always more difficult to bear. Hope both of you have fulfilled your duties like education of children ans settled them as individuals, if not you will have to complete this responsibility as a single parent now. Time is a great healer and within 10 months, you must have sorted out the basics like finance and a secure shelter. Time is a great healer, if you have support of your family, you can come out of the shock and start'living' again. If there is no family support, be your own help, keep busy with work, education and skills you have, share with others, besides earning some money, you will develop self confidence plus a will to live. But no drugs or tranquillisers, even for temporary relief to fall asleep. Take care of your basic health by eating healthy, go for long walks as they are the basic exercise cum meditation. Good luck.

Dear , I suggest you not to worry. Others are actually worried about you because of their social compulsions. But the decision is always yours. If you start bothering about what others says about you and your life, you never will be able to progress. Please do whatever you feel best for you, after consulting experts in the field.

My husband is having drinking habit from his 9th std age. Now he is 37 years old. He is a pharmaceutical manager. His job is a field work. He says due to the physical strains, mental worries and the financial constrains he is drinking unavoidably. But now a days he is becoming addict to alcohol. He use to drink daily. Some times more than two larges. If one day he miss to drink his mind craving for drinks and he become irresistible. And also he is having smoking habit. He smokes 1 full packet cigarette per day. Whenever he skips drinking for more than 2 days head ache stars to him and always angry on family members. His eyes and nails turned to yellow color. I suspect this may be the symptoms of liver malfunctioning. His lips and teeth are turned black due to nicotine toxins. He breaths very tough. Even he is breathing hard when speaking. He spends all most half of his salary for drinking. Moreover he is becoming a debtor having debts in many banks and private loan providers. We have 3 kids. The condition of my family is really very bad. I want him to come out of this habit completely. I joined him in a addiction center also before 8 months. He stayed there for 1 month and was remained non drinker for 5 months after coming from the deaddiction center. But unfortunately he started his habit again. He is very chronic. Sometimes he hates his habits and wants to come out. Sometimes he will not obey my words and behave harsh to drink. He is psychologically affected a lot. He attempted for suicide for 2 times. He is not ready to come to meet doctor. I am helpless. I came to know from a friend that homeopathy medicines can cure addiction and with the help of homeopathy treatment a person can over come the drinking habit for lifetime. But I do not know whom to approach and which doctor is best to consult. home doctors whoever read this, kindly help me. Hi. Yes, there are homoeopathic medicines which will help your husband to get rid of his addiction of smoking and drinking! give your husband homoeopathic medicines - schwabe's daphne indica and quercus robur 1x - both thrice daily for 6 months regularly. Management: give him fresh, nutritive, balanced and healthy food consisting more of seasonal fruits, green vegetables, pulses, legumes, nuts, flaxseeds, 10-12 glasses of water in a day, 6-8hrs. Of sleep daily and think healthy! yoga poses: -marichyasana: it is performed by sitting in a comfortable position on the floor. Sit cross-legged on the floor and pull your right thigh towards your chest. Twist your body towards the right side. Repeat the twist on the left side. -suryanamaskar: to begin with, hold your hands folded in front of you (as in the indian namaskara pose) and look at the sun. Raise your hands straight upwards in the folded position. Bend down and touch your feet. Stretch one leg outwards and arch your body backwards. Bend forward in the downward dog pose and then rest your entire body on your belly. Next, slowly lift up your torso in the cobra pose. Now, return back to the downward dog pose and all the other poses you have performed before it in the return sequence. Ultimately, you will return to the folded hands pose which you have started with. -baddha konasana is performed in a seated posture. Start by sitting with your legs stretched outwards. Now fold one leg and then the next, and place them with the soles of the feet in contact with each other. Remain seated in the position for as long as you can. -balasana helps in combating alcoholism by strengthening the mind of the alcohol addict. This asana relieves mental stress and fatigue and improves blood circulation to the brain. To perform this asana, kneel down, touch the floor with your forehead and stretch out your hands in the front. Revert.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. The condition you are troubled with is called anxiety neurosis. Anxiety neurosis treatment consists of cognitive behavioral therapy, life style changes, relaxation therapy and meditation. Once you learn how to manage your anxiety yourself with the help of the above treatment methods, you will be cured and you can stop the medicines if any. The process could take some time according to the depth of the problem and the circumstances at which the patient lives. Anyhow, there is nothing to worry. Most of the psychological problems can be cured with scientific therapy methods. Take care.

Dear user. I can understand. Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. Smoking can affect your mouth, throat, lungs, heart, stomach and brain in many ways. Cancer is one among the potential diseases smoking can cause. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. Nicotine chewing gums too help as an alternative for cigarettes. But still you will need will power. You may consult a physician or deaddiction therapist or a rehabilitation facility for further advice. You can also opt for online deaddiction therapy. Take care.

Hi. I'm 24 yr old woman. I was in relationship with a guy for abt 9 months. We both loved each other. But now only I came to know he is already married. So I had ended up the relationship with him. But I feel very bad abt myself. I'm not a type of person to love a married man. Really I don't know tat he is already married. If I had known before itself means I would not have spoken with him. Daily i'm crying. I feel like I want to commit suicide. Becoz I loved a married man. I always having the feeling of committing suicide. How to get rid of this thought. Please help me.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

Sounds like you are very angry with yourself. It is okay to be angry with yourself for having being fooled around by this guy. Then you need to express it to someone, like you have done to me and the matter is over. I really admire you for breaking up with this guy after knowing that he is married. It is very difficult to be in love and then discover that you were deceived all this time. But you have done really well to be able to quit the relationship on the discovery. Now pick up the pieces and make good of your life. It was that guy who deceived you and he should feel all the guilt, not you. So be proud that you did the right thing and that you did not deceive anyone yourself. Do not be harsh on yourself and your life is very precious. No man is more important than your life. Get rid of all reminders of this fellow and do not frequent places, situations, or company that you used to keep with this guy for some time. Talk to someone else also if you need to, and go and do some vigorous exercise every day, and be proud yourself. I am.

Respected Sir, I am Sudip Goswami from West Bengal. My father suffering with Parkinson's disease from last 3 years. We had visited several hospital india including NIMHANS, AOPLLO (Chennai, Bangur (W. B) Now please suggest me the way to recover from this situation. Also suggest me the best treatment for P. D in india.

DM - Neurology
Neurologist, Hyderabad
Dear friend, unfortunate to know your father suffering from parkinson's disease. It is a disease of brain in which brain cells in particular area of brain degenerate spontaneously so the patient develop problems in body movement like tremor, shaking of limbs and walking difficulty and movement become slow and body became stiff. There is no treatment to permanently cure the disease or stop the disease till now. But patients symptoms can be controlled by medication for a significant years. But he will be symptom free as long as he uses the medication, when he stops the medicine symptoms will reappear. Some centers doing stem cell therapy for parkinson's disease, but it is in experimental stage. Depending on patient's response to symptomatic therapy, a brain surgery is done called bds in which patient may get symptomatic relief without medication for many years. But it is available in selected centres, costly, helpful in some specific parkinson patients.
