Usually he will throw away this habit after he grows up. Now you can apply a bandage on his thumb or some bitter cream.

Hello dear doc. My13 year old daughter (not pubic now, her ultrasound is ok) faint twice at school while playing in hot day. We haven't seen any symptoms of fits but as she awake after half an hour our doctor suggested test of vitamin d, EEG,MRI. After test vitamin d level show 25 in report MRI normal, EEG abnormal so neurologist suggest medicine. But before started it ,we again did EEG from other famous diagnostic centre but dis time EEG report is normal. It's really surprising in 5 days. One report shows abnormal other shows normal. Now being a mother I am really confuse. Wat to do or. Not to do.

Report of any test whether it is eeg or any other, is to be correlated with clinical findings. If faint is not suggestive/ leading clue to epilepsy type ailment, even abnormal report should not be discarded outright. Get an other eeg done and consult pediatrician. Fainting is not necessarily epilepsy. Its diagnosis solely depends on nature of faintness since there is no sign of this disease. In this case faint may be due to hot weather leading to dehydration.

My son is of 51/2 months. From last 7 days, he had not done poop. Please suggest me what to do so that he can do poop?

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
It's not necessarily abnormal, unless accompanied by greenish vomiting and distention of abdomen. If child is playful and taking feeds normally, nothing to worry. You may try glycerin suppository.

Thumbsucking is a natural reflex for children. Sucking on thumbs, fingers, pacifiers or other objects may make babies feel secure and happy and help them learn about their world. Young children may also suck to soothe themselves and help them fall asleep.
However, after the permanent teeth come in, sucking may cause problems with the proper growth of the mouth and alignment of the teeth. It can also cause changes in the roof of the mouth. Pacifiers can affect the teeth essentially the same ways as sucking fingers and thumbs, but it is often an easier habit to break. The intensity of the sucking is a factor that determines whether or not dental problems may result. If children rest their thumbs passively in their mouths, they are less likely to have difficulty than those who vigorously suck their thumbs. Some aggressive thumbsuckers may develop problems with their baby (primary) teeth.
Children usually stop sucking between the ages of two and four years old, or by the time the permanent front teeth are ready to erupt. If you notice changes in your child’s primary teeth, or are concerned about your child’s thumbsucking consult your dentist.
Tips for helping your child stop thumbsucking:
Praise your child for not sucking.
Children often suck their thumbs when feeling insecure or needing comfort. Focus on correcting the cause of the anxiety and provide comfort to your child.
For an older child, involve him or her in choosing the method of stopping.
Your dentist can offer encouragement to your child and explain what could happen to their teeth if they do not stop sucking.
If the above tips don’t work, remind the child of their habit by bandaging the thumb or putting a sock on the hand at night. Your dentist or pediatrician may prescribe a bitter medication to coat the thumb or the use of a mouth appliance.

My little baby girl who is 6 months old is having sticky eyes when she gets up. Since last 4 months, she is having tears coming out from her left eye. I consulted my doctor, she said her tear glands are forming so there is nothing to worry. Will get alright on its own. There is a yellow discharge which comes out when she gets up. Kindly suggest.

This is a common problem in newborn where they have eye punctum closed . Everyone secretes tears to lubricate eye. All tears are drained through that punctum to nose. So when a human being cries, his/her has nasal discharge too with tears secretion. Your baby has blocked punctum. Repeated Massage on nasal bridge really helps. Opthalmologist should be consulted if it severe at 6 months of age. Very fee requires syringing.

She needs happiness, play, entertainment, parental time, good nutritious diet study, in that order, spend time with the child - identify her needs, help nurture her talent, which you and her have not yet identified, bring more happiness, joy in everything she does, and see the difference in her, as well as your life, don, t expect too much, seek improvement in joy than perfomance

Continue fevago for 3-5 days. If it is viral infection she will be fine. If no response then only think of blood test.

The nasal block in newborns is a common finding and you may not have put the decongestant drops and simply saline drops may have been used, similarly the vomiting as you say is possetting and most babies do this and you have to burp properly after each feed and never give anything in bottle.

the tes is to see if he has The MPS Diseases. The Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPSs) are rare genetic disorders in children and adults. They involve an abnormal storage of mucopolysaccharides, caused by the absence of a specific enzyme. Without the enzyme, the breakdown process of mucopolysaccharides is incomplete. Mucopolysaccharidoses are a group of metabolic disorders caused by the absence or malfunctioning of lysosomal enzymes needed to break down molecules called glycosaminoglycans.he age of onset and severity of Mucopolysaccharidosis type II (MPS II) differ depending on the form. Signs of severe MPS II usually begin between ages two and four. The symptoms of Hunter syndrome (MPS II) are generally not apparent at birth, but usually start to become noticeable after the first year of life.Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) and related diseases are genetic lysosomal storage diseases (LSD) caused by the body's inability to produce specific enzymes. Normally, the body uses enzymes to break down and recycle materials in cells.

My 13 year old son is overweight-67kg. Though he has cut down on junk and follows a strict diet his weight has not reduced. It has been so for the past 3 years. In fact, he was an underweight child till he was 3 years and later on till 10 years had no issues with body weight. Is there some problem I have to take care of?

Hye. You need to understand that a child has to be treated differently than an adult. The child of 13 years needs nutrition for growth and development. Strict diets are not at all recommended for a child in his teens. Concentrate on healthy, sensible eating and indulge in some sport that he likes. Gradually fitness and health has to happen. You have to let it come naturally to your child, you can't enforce health the way you know is right. A child's needs are very different. Be patient and let the health take its course.

If legs widening is not congenital, it is usually due to vitamin D deficiency particularly in poor family. Vitamin D 6oooo iu once in a week for 3 weeks and Calcium tab 2 times in a day may be given after seeing blood report. Sun exposure of body is useful.

We need to see his weight for age. If it is ok. Perhaps it is normal. If it is less than normal, it needs treatment.

I am 25 years old. I am suffering from Respiration problems from 2010. Is there any cure for this problem. I have to take Cipla - Montair LC twice in a day. And sometimes have to take levolin capsule inhaler. I want a cure of this problem.

MBBS, Diploma in Child Health (DCH)
Pediatrician, Aurangabad
according to our science you have to take medication very meticulously and regularly as asthma is not completely curable like diabetes and hypertension. You take not only levolin inhaler but some steroid inhaler as it will prevent latter fibrosis of your lungs.
