You need to visit a psychiatrist. After 1 or 2 sessions the psychiatrist can roughly predict the time for recovery and duration of treatment. All the best.

Smoking - Why Is It So Bad During Pregnancy?

Smoking - Why Is It So Bad During Pregnancy?

As you know, several scientific studies have proven that smoking is one of the main causes of several serious ailments like cancer, lung diseases, asthma and so on. Pregnant women who smoke not only spoil their own health, but also the health of the lovely kid in their womb. Yet many women wonder whether smoking really affects pregnancy and the answer is quite in the affirmative.

  1. Cigarette chokes the baby in the womb: It is known that cigarette smoke contains more than 4000 chemicals including lead and cyanide. In fact, it is one of the few products that contain more than 60 different types of cancer causing chemicals and compounds. It would be interesting to note that none among these 4000 chemicals is beneficial to the expectant mother and to the baby in the womb. In fact, cigarette smoke chokes not only the expectant mother, but also the baby inside. As a result, frequent chocking causes serious effects on the health of the fetus.
  2. Grouped into three categories: Smoking directly affects the health of the fetus. Premature babies, still born babies and underweight babies are some of the results of smoking prior to pregnancy. As a matter of fact, smoking by women could be grouped into three namely smoking before, during and after pregnancy. This issue is further discussed here:
    • It is strongly suggested that women planning on pregnancy should stop smoking at least few months before they conceive. In the first place, smoking may affect the fertility of both men and women. Therefore, the couple should stop smoking, if they are planning to have a baby. Further, if the couple does not quit smoking and the woman becomes pregnant, then it can seriously affect the health of the baby.
    • Whether you smoke during the first three months or during the last phase of the pregnancy, tobacco can severely harm the health of the fetus. The increase of monoxide in the blood stream caused by smoking tobacco will enter the bloodstream of the mother and also of the child in the womb. Naturally, this will affect the growth of the child. It can cause visual and/or hearing impairment, behavioural problems and also mental disability of the baby.
    • Post pregnancy, the mother should breastfeed the baby. Smoking can retard the secretion of milk in the breast. Further, the dangerous chemicals present in the smoke of tobacco will make its presence in the breast milk. Naturally, this will affect the health of the baby.

Keeping in view the best interests of the mother and baby, it is strongly suggested that the couple should stop smoking, if they want to have a baby. After all, the health of the baby and of the couple is a matter of primary importance.

Don't make your relation addiction, because then its really hard to get out of it. This relation is just a part of your life its not your whole life. So try to detach yourself from the relation, prioritize things in your life and deliberate try tor educe conversation and your meetings. Make a schedule, get yourself busy in things, exercise and find other motivations in your life. If you feel this relation is not helping you talk mutually and end it. It may be hard initially but no feeling stays forever, so it will change for good. Take counseling if required. Consult me for same.

Dear, you must be able to understand attention span, recollection, concentration, and distraction. If you are able to watch a movie for two hours continuously, if you are able to play a game for an hour, then you do not have any concentration problems. You can't be attentive towards your studies because you are not interested in it. You are able to watch movie and play game because you are interested in it. Human cannot be attentive towards anything for more than 10 minutes. Then you should study in such a way that your attention is continued and make the subjects are interesting to you. Effective learning techniques should help you. Recollection depends on anxiety, stress and other physical and circumstantial factors. Distractions while studying are plentiful. You should be able to overcome distractions or avoid distractions. Please understand the above. Change your study style and attitude accordingly. Please post a private question to me and I will help you with" effective learning" techniques. Take care.

But my husband gets anger whenever I want to share things. As you rightly said communication matters but sometimes I do not understand what he tries to communicate when I ask him for the next time he gets anger on me and scolds me. Secondly he does not share anything with me he shares all good and bad to his mother only, which is quite hurting me. I feel that he does not know to balance between mother and wife. Moreover we do not have privacy to talk to each since my mother in law sleeps with us. It is just become routine come to office, go home work, take care of your kid, sleep and next day your routine begins. I seriously do not know whether he loves me or not. I do not know how to come out of this issue. Am getting depressed since I do not have a supporting hand at home. Please tell me how to go about it. I tend to forget many things nothing is getting registered in my mind. Sometimes I feel lonely frustrated and feel why am living on this earth. Please counsel me on this issue and how should I live.

The important thing in communication is listening. So, if you are not listening with rapt attention, especially since he hardly used to communicate, then quite naturally he will get angry. If you are serious about wanting the communication, then pay close attention and pass some good and interesting remarks when he talks. Your MIL sleeping with you both is shocking. He may be a mama's boy and somehow you have to accommodate his sharing with her but not sharing the same bedroom. These things may be difficult to talk to him about and so I advise you to find a counselor and go and meet that person for his/her inputs. About doing so much of work, why don't yo get a maid and relieve yourself of a lot of housework. And as the children grow make them gradually handle a few responsibilities too. For further assistance, you need to go for what is called 'continupoous counseling'

This can be due to stress and not controlling the mind. Please read this nice thought about to prevent it: when your stress goes flying out the window stress is so all-pervading in this material world that everyone is tortured by it. Stress takes many forms. We are stressed by health problems, financial problems, interpersonal problems and many more. The solution for all varieties of stress is to understand that its underlying cause is bodily consciousness, the false identification of the self with the body. As soon as one realizes that he is not his body and that his real happiness is based on harmonizing his consciousness with the supreme consciousness, and he then learns the art of doing this, his stress goes flying out the window to be replaced with profoundly sweet transcendental bliss. -

Hi, I came in touch with one of my old friend few months back. Initially we used to talk with each other a lot and started liking each other. He used to respect my feelings so much but then after some days his behavior totally changed. He treats me as a stranger. I asked him for the reason of this change but he is never ready to discuss. It really is hurting me a lot and feeling so restless. Can't concentrate on my work as well.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Just leave this relationship immediately. If he is behaving without respect and is treating you like a stranger, it will seem that he is off of you. Any attempt to get him back may be forcing a reluctant lover into a relationship by pressure and that is not at all good for any relationship. This may seem difficult but you are better off without him. There are a lot of options available still and it is better if you start your search comfortably, and keep this relationship a casual one but there must be respect! get back to concentrating on your work and become more functional. You deserve this and you must show people that your are a respectful person and will tolerate no one who fails to give you that status.

Stress affect our mind and body in various ways, inability to fall asleep is one of them. Dear lybrate user. You are already married and living with your wife for 18 years. You must be having children too. Learning to be peaceful in your life is your responsibility. If you think that others (including your wife and children) should bring peace in your life, it is a waste. Understand this factor and change your attitude. You need online counseling. Take care.

Express your emotions is not a disease. Why you want to control your emotions. Don't control them just change the way of express. When you feel happy help needy persons. Not only by money by physical help also. This make you feel happy more but keep calm your mind. When you feel angry do activities like making drawing and colouring what make you angry. When you want to cry just cry. It clear your inner soul. Write down your emotions any why they rise daily. Just clear every thing be positive always. Accept what happen always.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

What are some symptoms of depression? Are anti depressant pills have some bad effect in our health?
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, symptoms of depression may include the following: • Difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions • Fatigue and decreased energy • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, and/or helplessness • Feelings of hopelessness and/or pessimism • Insomnia, early-morning wakefulness, or excessive sleeping • Irritability, restlessness • Loss of interest in activities or hobbies once pleasurable, includingsex • Overeating or appetite loss • Persistent aches or pains, headaches, cramps, or digestive problems that do not ease even with treatment • Persistent sad, anxious, or "empty" feelings • Thoughts of suicide, suicide attempts Almost all psychotropic drugs have side effects and you cannot help that. But if you maintain a healthy lifestyle these effects can always be minimized. Also if you go episode-free for at least three years on medication, the doctor will gradually wean you off of the medication forever.

Hi sir/mam myself bharath n im 27yrs old. From past 5 yrs im smoking cigarettes in an average 5sticks a day. And now I decided quit this. And I tried 2 times to quit that but I can't.. During that time I felt lazy, weak and anger. So I need your help to quit. Is there any procedure to quit or any medicine.. please refer me.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Nicotine gums are just an aid and need not be mandatorily used. You may use nicotine patches if you want any help to curb the physical urge since nicotine is the dependency causing substance in tobacco smoke. When quitting, you must take one day at a time. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine gums and nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest.
