When you are trying to gain weight, you should eat food the rich in vitamins and minerals. 1. Healthy food includes meat, egg, milk, fruit vegetables, fruits, and nuts. Cashews, almonds, dates, walnuts, dry grapes, apricots, peaches are some of the dried fruits and nuts that can be added to breakfast, salads, cereal and desserts. Sesame seeds, ground nuts, and peanuts also contain fats in them and can help in adding that extra pounds you desire. 2. Sometimes loss of appetite may also cause weight loss. So you should take following remedies improving weight a]triphala kadha 4tsp before lunch and dinner b]amala juice 4 tsp + sugar 2 tsp+ honey 2 tsp empty stomach in the morning umami flavor increases satiety and enhances appetite. Due to improving hunger and digestion whatever you will eat more and even you eat more it will digest properly and your weight will increase naturally without any supplement.

Health tips for patients of diabetes mellitus

MBBS, MD - Community Medicine
General Physician, Ghaziabad
Health tips for patients of diabetes mellitus
Health tips for patients of diabetes mellitus. I wont write long list of do's and dont's. Its simple things which you can follow in your everyday life.

1. Avoid eating following food items. Potato, rice, corn, corn flakes, market made cereal, muesli (contains added sugar), oily stuff such as parantha, poori & pakode.

2. Take a brisk walk for at least 30 kin per day preferably in morning. Brisk walking means at a pace when you start getting tired and sweaty.

3. Weight reduction is very important. Of you r overweight join some cardio program or swimming or jogging or walking to reduce weight

4. Take small meals frequently. Instead of having large meals at long intervals.

5. Ideally blood sugar should be checked daily but thats not possible in our scenario so once a week or twice a month is f9.

6. Get your eyes checked regularly for signs of diabetic retinopathy. Visit ophthalmologist as soon as you are diagnosed with type diabetes. You will be shocked to know that a large number of diabetics are diagnosed by their ophthalmologists

7. Diabetes have an effect on kidneys and nerves also so get renal function test every 6 monthly or so.

8. Foot care is very imp in diabetes because even a trivial injury in. Leg can become gangrene. Use silicone sole footwear available at medical shops. Never go outside with bare foot.

10. Regular medicine intake is very imp

11. Lastly diabetes is a lifestyle disorder. Sedentary lifestyle makes things worse and result into syndrome x which apart from diabetes also includes increased lipids in blood and hypertension. Adopt an active life style.

Dear lybrate user...What I understand from your question is that you masturbate once a month but still you are having ejaculation early in the morning. As per the normal body physiology, formation of sperms and ejaculate in the body is a continuous process and there is a limit to storage in the body. Once the amount of semen exceeds the limit, it is ejaculated out and it happens whenever there is some erotic stimulation which can be by sight or smell or touch or by any of our senses. Masturbation once a month is just not enough to get rid of the amount that is formed in a month in the body and thus early in the morning when the REM sleep that is the shallow sleep is more, a person gets erection in dreams and may ejaculate. So my advice to you would be that either you get rid of it voluntarily or just take a chill pill and relax and let the body do it for you. You do not need to worry but just accept. Although still if you want than there are medications which may help you deal with your problem. Take care

Mam how can I gain weight I am so slim I feel sleepy and all d time I am in sleep. I hate myself I love me.
Hi gain weight you need to combine a balanced eating pattern with regular physical activity. You should be eating at least 6 small meals a day, rather than sticking to 3 square meals. You could divide it as 3 main meals and 3 snacks. You need to be eating every 2-3 hours. Space out snacks during the day so you don't spoil your appetite. Bread, cereal, rice, whole wheat, dalia and pasta: biscuits, and corn-bread are good sources of carbohydrates. Fruits: dried fruits, fruit nectars, and large quantities of fresh fruits vegetables: include, potatoes, peas, corn in your diet. Meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts: beef, pork, lamb, poultry, salmon, omelets, nuts, peanut butter, kidney beans, chickpeas will help you gain weight. Include dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese: milk, fruited yogurts, hard cheeses, ice cream, puddings, custards, milkshakes. -nuts and seeds make a healthy option for snacks. -roasted channas and peanuts are good -peanut butter on the sandwiches are a great mid-meal choice. -you must know that cereals actually contain some healthy calories. Stay hydrated: drinking plenty of water and other fluids like juices, milk, soups etc, will work in your favour. Do not drink water before a meal and in between the meal as it may make you lose your appetite, thus calorie intake suffers. Sleep: at least 8 hours of sound sleep is a must. Since your body is actually building up muscles, while you rest. Weight gainers have long term side effects.

My age is 75 years and just now I hv done my body test where other parameters are normal but alkaline phosphatase is appearing as 158.9. Is this dangerous? And what are its consequence? And what medicine should I take it for putting the same at normal levels.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)

My age is 75 years and just now I hv done my body test where other parameters are normal but alkaline phosphatase is ...
Elevated alkaline phosphatase is associated with numerous signs and symptoms. Alkaline phosphatase is a group of isoenzymes that originate in your bone, liver, intestines, skin and placenta. Isoenzymes are a collection of enzymes that catalyze the same chemical reaction but possess different structures and biochemical properties. High alkaline phosphatase suggests numerous possible health conditions, each with their own unique set of signs and symptoms. 1. Biliary Obstruction Biliary obstruction, also known as bile duct obstruction, can cause elevated alkaline phosphatase levels. Biliary obstruction is a blockage of the tubes that transport bile from your liver to your gallbladder and small intestine. Numerous factors can cause biliary obstruction, including cysts in your common bile duct, enlarged lymph nodes, gallstones, inflammation of your bile ducts, trauma from gallbladder surgery, tumors of your bile duct or pancreas and other tumors that have spread to your biliary system 2.Rickets Rickets, a bone disease, can cause elevated alkaline phosphatase levels and numerous other signs and symptoms. Rickets is a disorder that affects your bones, causing them to become soft and fracture easily. The most common cause of rickets is a lack of vitamin D, although rickets can also be an inherited condition. Rickets is most common in children. Bone diseases, such as rickets, cause increases in alkaline phosphatase that are proportional to new bone cell production. 3. Liver Cirrhosis Liver cirrhosis, a progressive condition of your liver, can cause high levels of alkaline phosphatase in your blood. Cirrhosis is a condition in which your liver deteriorates over time, eventually malfunctioning due to chronic injury. If you have liver cirrhosis, scar tissue has replaced a significant portion of your healthy liver tissue, which can block the flow of blood through your liver. Impaired liver function disrupts your liver's ability to control infections, remove toxins from your blood and process nutrients. Along with elevated blood levels of alkaline phosphatase, common signs and symptoms associated with liver cirrhosis include weakness, fatigue, decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, weight loss, abdominal pain, itching and spider-like blood vessels on your skin, Please consult with me history of your increased levels of Alk Phos ,being a homoeopath I will certainly guide you in this direction.

Dear patient, a proper measure for knowing and managing your diabetes will be to ensure a hba1c below 6.5%. Regarding diet, we indians have high carbohydrate diet. You have to closely observe your plate and you can come up with a better diet plan for yourself or your mother. To simplify it, identify the items which are carb rich in your plate and try to compensate the same with protein and fibres, for eg cut down a roti and increase sabji, dal or salad. To have a better control you can do a monthly self glucose monitoring 3 times a day and keep a track of the food with it. Check fasting sugar, sugar one hour prior to lunch and 2 hrs post lunch, and note down the details of her breakfast and lunch items. Modify as per my earlier suggestions and within a week you will see your blood sugar level responding. Best of luck.

Growth Hormone Deficiency - How Best to Treat it?

MBBS & Post Graduate course in Diabetology, Fellow of Academy of General Education (FAGE), CCEBDM
Endocrinologist, Bangalore
Growth Hormone Deficiency - How Best to Treat it?

The body produces a number of chemicals called hormones which are essential for the regulation of various functions including growth and metabolism. These hormones are produced by endocrine glands which are located in various parts of the body. One such important gland is the pituitary gland which produces the important growth hormone. This is essential for regulating optimal growth during the growing years and for maintaining proper amounts of body fat, muscles, and bones in the later years of life.

Causes: Deficiency of the growth hormones can occur due to a number of causes, some of which are listed below. It can be congenital (present at birth) or acquired later in life.
The congenital issue could be due to problem in the pituitary gland structure, leading to complete absence or reduced secretion of the hormone.
With age, there is a decrease in the amount of secretion. However, infections, injuries, brain tumors, surgery and radiation can also lead to altered amounts of secretion.

Symptoms: While growth hormone deficiency can occur at any age, symptoms differ depending on the age when the deficiency sets in.
In the early ages:

  • Lower rate of growth for a given age
  • Delayed developmental milestones
  • Delayed onset of puberty
  • Short stature/reduced height
  • Younger looking compared to other children their age
  • Fat deposition around the waist
  • Delayed dental development

When the deficiency sets in during the later years, there is

  • Low energy levels, constant tiredness
  • Decreased strength
  • Decreased exercise tolerance
  • Decreased overall muscle mass
  • Thin and dry skin
  • Increased fat deposition and weight gain around the waist
  • Changes in social behavior including alternate cycles of anxiety and depression
  • Lack of motivation
  • History of pituitary tumors
  • High levels of fat and cholesterol

The diagnosis depends on the age of the person

  • Blood tests are carried out to check the hormone levels in circulation
  • In children, in addition to the hormone levels, x-rays to see the status of growth plates is very helpful.
  • An insulin hypoglycemia test where insulin is given intravenously to see the levels of the growth hormone after 30 minutes.
  • Total cholesterol levels, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and triglyceride levels can be used to supplement the above tests.
  • CT scan and/or MRI of the brain may be needed if tumors are suspected.

Treatment: Once diagnosed, replacement therapy is given as shots a few times a week under the skin. This restores normal growth and helps in controlling the symptoms in adults too.
In cases of tumor, radiation or surgery may be required, but most cases are managed with hormone replacement.
Watch out for the symptoms if your child has delayed developmental milestones and early intervention can help restore growth and function to normal levels.

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult the doctor and ask a free question.
