Hi, Its good to start with mild walking and not too heavy exercises. Also, start making lifestyle changes such as having early dinner, drinking a lot of water etc. Please start with cutting down all junk/fried/processed or packed foods. Always opt for real foods. Snack only on fruits, cucumbers, nuts, vegetables, curd, buttermilk etc. Cut down sugar and salt from your intake. Include protein rich foods such as sprouts, pulses, paneer, chicken, fish, eggs, dals etc after workout. All the best!

Hi I have cysts and gained 10 kgs weight in past few months. I tried to do skipping and few exercises at home but legs started hurting in such a way that it has been difficult to walk for 4 weeks. I started skipping meals or sometimes breakfast as I am worried and want to reduce my weight fast. In past 6 months I've grown fat in my whole upper body and it looks awkward to see myself like that. My facial features have also been changed like my eyes started popping out. Dark circles. Double chin and on top of this I started seeing heavy growth of hair all over my body. Can some one please help Me? I have been less confident these days about myself. I also have my exams next month. Please help me.

Hi lybrate-user, can you please get your thyroid levels checked? Also, please do not skip breakfast, it will only make you gain more weight. Eat healthy breakfast such as millet/multigrain dosa, red rice poha, broken wheat upma etc. Avoid breads or any maid based foods. Try to have a light and early dinner such as vegetable salads or soups. Drink at least 3 liters of water daily. All the best!

Its good that you have a goal weight and I am sure it is advisable to lose about 2-3 kilos per month. Begin with small lifestyle modification strategies such as including 45-60 minutes of walking daily, along with healthy eating habits. Firstly, reduce meal portions sizes by 20%.Secondly, incorporate protein rich sources instead of carbohydrates. Eat more pulses, sprouts, eggs, chicken, dals, milk, curd etc and cut down portions of rice, rotis etc. Do not avoid but reduce. Thirdly, have early dinner and eat mostly vegetables. This will increase fiber and help with burning fat. Finally, drink at least 3 liters of water through the day to flush out toxins and to lose weight faster. All the best!

I feel the workout is causing some miscommunication between my mother and I. As I want a low in fat diet and the food prepared is fullon indian style with all the spice colours and oil dancing around. This miscommunication is kind of taking a toll on the relationship. I need some suggestions to get off this relationship mess due to workout. And discontinuing workout is no option.

Hi lybrate-user, take time to explain to your mother about why too much refined oil is bad for health and show her videos/talks on such topics. Work together as a team to reduce oil usage for both of your benefit. Also, Indian food is healthy if eaten in moderation. Some amount of herbs and spices are alright. Also, ensure you are eating dals, pulses, subzi, egg, chicken etc. Snack mostly on fruits and raw vegetables which need not have any cooking. You can also prefer some nuts. Please remember, end of the day, we should ensure what we do is giving us and people around us happiness. Mentally, we should be peaceful for maximum health. Else all this will not really help, if you are not happy emotionally. So try to create a balance. Talk to your mother openly and she will definitely understand and help. All the best!

Hello Ms. lybrate-user, with regards to exercise, focus more on squats, leg rise and abs workout as this will focus on those muscles. Ensure you are also walking at least 35-40 minutes 4-5 times a week. With regards to diet, try to have an early and light dinner as this will help you cut down belly fat and ensure you are drinking diluted lemon water every morning and before bed time to promote metabolism, to cleanse and eventually help in reducing fat. Begin with these 3 activities for the next 2 weeks and then do keep me posted on the progress. All the best.

Hi lybrate-user, Please start making small modifications to see a healthy weight gain. As a first step, start including 20% extra portions in your regular meals. Second, start having 3 snacks between meals. This can be boiled pulses, corn, fruits, nuts, dry fruits, lassi, eggs etc. Eat more protein rich snacks. Thirdly, drink 2 glasses of milk and 2 cups of curd everyday and add 2 tsp of ghee in your meals. Do these 3 consciously for 3-4 weeks and I am sure you will see some good progress. All the best!
