Aim for long term weight loss. Don't look for short term solutions..>> Add more Fruits /Salads/Proteins to your diet. Double your water intake. One glass every hour..>> Cut down Sweets/Biscuits/ Colas/Juices from your diet..>> Cut down Puris/Parathas/Pizzas/Burgers/Fried Rice..>> Eat slowly and mindfully. 1.2 km of brisk waking can reduce lot 57 calories. But I would advise you not to count calorie burn and focus on staying fit instead.

Hi lybrate-user, along with the diet it is important to have activity. To maintain your weight, your intake of calories should be equal to your output. But to lose weight you should burn more calories than your intake. Start with any activity like brisk walk/cycling/cardio/power yoga etc. Daily for min 30-45 minutes. Have small frequent meals. Increase your water intake min 3-5 liters per day. Cut down on fast foods, excess salt, aerated drinks, sweets. Start with 1 change per day and eventually you will start seeing the desired changes. All the best. Stay focused, stay motivated, stay healthy.

Old pickles may contain yeast if not properly stored. Vegetarian foods having yeast are dried fruits, yoghurt, synthetic creams soya sause, left over food. No home made paneer does not have yeast.

hello A person who eats a large amount of slate pencils and brick powder can experience digestive symptoms, such as pain in his abdomen, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation. the urge is related to some mineral deficiency in the body. thank u

I am a Type 1 Diabetic for the last 40 years and are insulin for last 38 years. I was injecting 80 units of Lantus Daily at 9 pm the last 12 years but now I am injecting 40 units of Lantus Insulin for the last 5. Years and got my Hb1ac tested last year in October and it was 6.7. Now I have come to know about Tresiba Insulin Kindly advise me that should I switch on to the new insulin Tresiba or remain on Lantus. I feel to mention here also that I had a first MI in 1989 and second attack in 2010. My Cholesterol level tested a month agao was 123 and LDL was 69. Hope your early advise.

Hi. You have described your case very well, thank you for that. As you have mentioned, your hba1c was very well controlled at 6.7 last year. You need to check in again now. If it again shows that your diabetes is very well controlled, then there is no such need of changing a very well suited insulin regiment and experiment with a newer one. Thank you. Take care.

Hello, Low body weight could be because of insufficient food, faulty lifestyle. Weight gain will surely come by eating right. Proper exercise with calorie dense food will help you to gain weight. Include smoothies, yogurts, eggs, whole fruits, whole grains, pulses will help you. Limit excess of salt, sugar and oil intake in your diet.

Avoid Fried Foods And Snacks It is very important for you to remove fried foods from your diet if you have any intentions of losing weight. • Make sure that you do not include fried chicken, fried meat, fried rice or any other fried snacks in your daily diet. • If you completely eliminate fried foods you can see remarkable changes in your weight in a month or two.

My brother-in-law (age-32) couple of days ago diagnosed with diabetes (RBS above 500 and Hba1C 10) .Now along with medications, he stopped taking white rice and refined flour and started including millets in all the three meals. Is this a good move? And he had kidney stones previously. Now can he take palak and tomato?

Hi Hemant... I suggest you take some natural antioxidant enriched foods like fresh fruits ( Guava/ Pear/ Pomegranate/ Apple/ Mango) Green salads, Ginger slice with green tea. At snack sprouts is ideal for you. And need to improve protein intake also.. Egg, Chicken, Milk & Milk product are good sources of that. Regards..

Dear Lybrateuser, -To increase your body metabolism you have to take a balanced diet, do regular exercise, distress & have good sleep for at least 7-8 hrs at night -have proper breakfast of milk with oats/cereals with fruit, an egg or poha, have meals on time ,have a fruit like an apple or an orange, pear as a snack or yogurt, mixed nuts, sprouts -do aerobic exercise like a walk in the morning or yoga & deep breathing for 10-15 min to distress & gain strength -have 7-8 glasses of water a day as less water causes lethargy & tiredness -a restful sleep for 7-8 hrs at night is very important to keep you active & alert the next day, keep sleep & wake up time fixed, avoid tv & mobile before sleep -relax by reading, listening to music & follow a hobby.

Weight gain is not a one day process, it cannot be increased by adding some or the other food items in your diet. Try to include high calorie food items in your meals without adding bulk to it. There should be balance in energy intake and output and that should be done under the supervision of a dietician.

Hi lybrate-user bananas are a great source of nutrients, providing your body with benefits that enhance your overall appearance: Bananas and your waistline Do bananas make you gain weight? No. They won’t. Don’t be afraid that a banana will make you fat; a normal banana contains about 150 calories max. The false interpretation that a banana makes you gain weight is commonly based on the fact that a banana contains a relative large amount of carbs, of which natural fruit sugars. These sugars are broken down into glucose, which provides your body with energy to move your leg, make a step, walk etc. That’s a good thing! Did you know your brain can’t even function without glucose? To keep it simple: to gain weight, you’ll need to eat more calories than you burn. I wrote an article about that here and here. You can imagine that a person who needs 2.500 kcal on a daily base, won’t gain weight over a banana. Perfect pre-workout snack Your body directly uses the glucose, making a banana a perfect pre-workout snack. Let’s say you ate more bananas and thereby taking in more glucose than you need right away: your body stores the glucose as glycogen in your muscles and liver, saving it for energy later on. Pre-workout (30-45 mins before) you need to have complex carbs plus protein to keep you fueled throughout workout. Here are some options: 1. Sprouts with salad, whole fruit & walnuts or 2. Museli/ wheatflakes + milk or 3. Whole fruit (guava/papaya/apple) + milk have sips of plain water or salt-sugar solution during workout. Post workout for instant energy you should have 1-2 bananas. For protein include soaked almonds/ oilseeds.
