Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. For diabetic person or for a normal healthy individual, no single oil is perfect. It is better to use two or three different oils. Like for making vegetables one type (ground nut, or sun flower or saflower or soy oil) for tadaka use ghee, for salads olive oil etc. Combination of oils is always good. Thanks.

Hello dear I am 24 years old . Can be take omega capsule ?
Good for health or not.
Hye. Thankyou for the query. Supplementation totally depends on your present food intake and activity level and, or stress levels etc. Supplementation is considered if your body is deficient in a nutrient, you have a medical condition that needs supplementation or your needs are high. Just adding a supplement does not help gain health. Even if you were to take it, your diet needs to be right, or the supplement is not of much help. Assess your requirements, improve your lifestyle and the supplement will help.

Hello doctor,

Hello, Gaining weight is a slow process which requires patience and dedication! It not only depends upon the amount of food you consume daily, but also about eating Sensibly, depends upon your genes, your body's proper metabolism, assimilation and absorption, the levels of stress/ tension in your life, and any underlying medical condition you have! The food what and how you eat, makes the difference! For increasing your weight, concentrate on the below points (if you don’t have any medical condition) which helps in gaining weight in a right way without harming your body. - Consume more healthy fats. Foods containing healthy fats are full of nutrients and also high in calories, making them a great option for weight gain. Foods containing plant fats should be your first option - this includes items such as nuts, seeds, peanut butter, avocados and olive oil. Foods containing healthy animals fats include lean meats and full fat dairy products - although if you have high cholesterol, you should probably stick to low-fat options. -Eat more protein. Good sources of protein include lean meat, fish and poultry, in addition to eggs, whole grains, dairy products and legumes. -Drink more calories. Try drinking a large glass of orange juice in the mornings (along with your normal breakfast). Drink a glass or two of full-cream milk throughout the day. -Have 6 small and frequent meals in a day. -Gain muscle mass. It's a good idea to continue to exercise while you attempt to gain weight the healthy way. Strength training includes working with weights and performing exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bench presses, bicep curls, crunches, chin-ups and leg curls. Just keep in mind that the more you exercise, the more calories you will need to consume to replace those you lost while working out. -Quit smoking. As it suppresses the appetite. -Stay healthy. The most important thing through the entire weight gain process is to stay healthy - eating a balanced diet and continuing to exercise throughout. -Take enough of rest and sleep for rejuvenation of the cells and tissues. -Think Positive which will help you in achieving your target of gaining weight. -Avoid taking unnecessary stress/ tension. Medication: Take Schwabe’s Alfaalfa Tonic and Five Phos. Both thrice daily ½ an hour before meals for 3 months. Revert.

Advantages Of Desi Haldi Milk!

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

Advantages Of Desi Haldi Milk!

Haldi is a vital spice used in the Indian cuisine and other south Asian cuisines. Also known as turmeric, it constitutes of some sugars, proteins, and resins, and is a ubiquitous Asian kitchen ingredient; almost every meal cooked has a dash of haldi in it. But apart from the colour, taste and aroma that it adds to the food, when added to milk, it becomes a magical potion known as desi haldi milk that can prevent and cure diseases.

Here are 5 lifelong benefits of desi haldi milk:

1. Has anti-inflammatory properties: haldi has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. According to Ayurveda, it has been named as the natural aspirin. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, when combined with milk, it becomes a really useful drink that helps prevent cancer. It stops the growth of lung, skin, colon, breast, and prostate cancer, and for cancer patients, it helps reduce the side effects of chemotherapy. Additionally, haldi milk provides relief from arthritis pain and improves the flexibility of joints and muscles.

2. Is a blood purifier: blood impurities can lead to severe health problems and desi haldi milk is considered an excellent blood purifier and cleanser if the principles of ayurveda are to be believed. It can revitalize and boost the blood circulation in the body. Acting as a blood thinner, haldi milk plays a significant role in eliminating all impurities from the blood vessels and lymphatic system of your body.

3. Helps control weight: turmeric contains curcumin, an antioxidant capable of preventing inflammation of various cells of your body like fat, muscle, and pancreatic cells. This also results in lower risks of health issues arising due to obesity like high cholesterol levels, high blood sugar, insulin resistance and other metabolic problems. Also, haldi milk helps in the breakdown of dietary fat. This can be useful in controlling the weight.

4. Gives you healthier skin: haldi is a very useful ingredient for battling skin issues. Drinking haldi milk helps in getting enviable glowing skin and can also be used for application on the face and body. Dipping a cotton ball into haldi milk and applying that to your face can help you get rid of any rash, skin redness or blotchy patches. Moreover, bathing in turmeric milk can be helpful in attaining soft, supple and radiant skin.

5. Ensures better bone health: haldi milk is an excellent source of calcium, and has bone-strengthening properties, which are necessary to keep the bones healthy and strong. It also helps lower bone loss and prevent osteoporosis.

So go ahead, mix up the ever easily available haldi and milk from your kitchen, and drink up to a healthier you.

Managing The Increasing Number Of Diseases

IAGES, MS, MBBS
General Surgeon, Noida

Lybrate - Dr. Aditya Vikram Shaunik talks about managing the Increasing Number of Diseases.

Good afternoon. I am DR. AV Shaunik. I am laparoscopic general surgeon. Practicing here in Bhardwaj hospital and have keen interest in nutrition and in wellness. So today we are talking about diseases, why do we have so many diseases and they are increasing on daily basis. In fact the major worry is the heart disease and 30 million people are suffering from this disease in India and 50 million people are suffering from diabetes. There are more than 3 million cancer patients in India . More than 5 lakh people die due to cancer every year. Then we have lung disease, asthma and bronchitis.

Stress is the major cause of the disease factor and increases obesity. So these are the problems which are taking place in adults as well as younger age group. Now the question is that why we have all the diseases? And what can we do about them? What needs to be understood in all these diseases is that they are caused by free radicals. Free radicals are unstable particles which are produced when metabolism is taking place in the body, so they are countered as antioxidants and they balance the free radicals. The problem is that there is a gap between the free radicals production and the balancing which is taking place by the antioxidants. Now what causes free radicals .Free radicals are basically the pollution, chemicals which are coming into our body, all these chemicals which are in the air or in the food insecticide, pesticide, urea, DAP.

Now all these in the body get converted into free radicals and which is being unstable when they hit the DNA of the body. It will cause cancer if it strikes the LDL and is known as bad cholesterol. It oxidizes the LDL and this oxidized LDL will enter the free radical and will damage artery walls to form fat deposits in the vessels which causes heart disease. The same way these radicals will cause inflammation in the bronchi in the air passage of the lungs. It gives rise to bronchitis, asthma. Now these are free radicals and the counter is to the antioxidants. Antioxidants are in food, vitamin and minerals. Over the years, a chemical attack is free radical attack and has worn out. Roughly, the free radical attack goes up to 500 times.

What has happened to our food? The food which our grandparents were eating in 1944, has no longer the same nutrients. Today you will have to eat nearly 8 to 10 tomatoes to get the same copper content which we supposed to get very easily in previous years. So since the nutrients have depleted more than 15 times and the free radicals attack has gone up by 500 times, so there is a major nutritional imbalance. This nutritional imbalance which has taken place is known as the nutritional deficient and this is the main cause of diseases. How do we take care of these diseases? To do this we will discuss this in the next clip.

If there are any questions which you would like to raise you can contact me on the Lybrate website itself, by SMS, by talking to me, by coming to my clinic in the Bhardwaj hospital. Thank you

I been gained weight after pregnancy and do have belly Wat to do for weight loss?

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science

I been gained weight after pregnancy and do have belly Wat to do for weight loss?
Ye, thanks for the query. Firstly it is important to understand that weight /fat loss involves sensible eating. You have to eat the right foods at the right time. Eat small but frequent meals. Take a glass of lime water 10minutes before meals. Reduce a little of your main meals. Avoid long gaps in between meals. Take small mid meals instead of two heavy main meals. Avoid junk as far as possible. Exercise at least 4 times a week. Lastly be committed. Remember it's a lifestyle change and not a one time thing. It's a balanced intake that will last you longer. All the so called diets will only give you muscle and bone loss. The fats will remain as it is. You cannot work singularly on one body part. Once you work on your overall loss you will lose belly fat as well. Incorporating ab exercises along with other exercises will help too. So, try to first follow this seemingly simple tips.

First you should follow low calories food for weight loss. * in morning, take 1-2 chapattis with a bowl of cooked green vegetables. You can take a glass of lemon water with it *in lunch you can take a bowl of raw vegetables like carrot, radish, tomatoes, turnip or beetroot. *in evening, you can take a cup of green tea only with some pieces of friuts like apple, pineapple, pear. Avoid taking banana or mango. *in dinner, you can take vegetable soup or a bowl of cooked vegetables. But do not take potato, sweet potatoes. * you can take a cup skimmed milk 4 times a week only during day time. * work out for atleast 1 hour in morning, you can try skipping for 15minutes with a walk of 30 minutes and 5-10 minutes running. Follow these exercises in the morning - * lie down on flat surface, raise your legs without bending your knees, do it for 3-5 times daily * do not eat fastfoods and soft drinks, as they have high calories and the calories deposit in body in the form of weight if not utilised. * you can take medohar guggalu 1 tablet daily for quick weight loss but only under the guidance of ayurveda expert. You can consult me privately for your doubts and more detailed treatment.

Hello,Homeopathic medicines are less invasive and have more herbal approach towards gaining the weight. There are a number of homoeopathic medicines, which treat the root cause behind the body’s inability to gain weight or bulk up. 1. Take alfalfa tonic(wsi), 2 – 2 tsp. Thrice a day, half an hour before meals. 2. Calcarea phos 200, 5 drops , once in aweek , morning empty stomach for 2 weeks. 3. Take eggs, milk, butter, bananas, potatoes, mangoes, figs, oats, soyabean and dry fruits. 4. do light exercises regularly to keep your body active. These homoeopathic medicines and dietary addition will increase your appetite and give your metabolism a healthy boost. ***If you do not get results with this treatment then please revert me i will suggest you to go through some tests.*** Thanks.

Seems you are not on a correct diet ,or there could be harmonal imbalance which is interfering in weight loss, so we advise you to actually stabilise post delivery, it's been Kaur two months you have had a baby ,give it three more months, by then your harmones would be stabilized, until then continue on a low calorie diet and workouts, and also be patient as it takes time to loose weight in a natural way. If still you are in a rush then I guess you would have to join some extensive yoga classes or gyming. For any further information or assistance you may get back to us.
