You ought to avoid everything that is processed and packaged. Restaurant meals also ought to be limited to once a week or so. Multi-vitamins usually contain token amounts of micronutrients. Do morning walk daily. Join gym and increase intake of milk and milk products in diet , eat 2 boiled eggs daily in breakfast and increase protein rich diet like raw cheese, soyabean,sprouts, boiled eggs etc. Take 1 tsf badam pak with milk twice daily . Avoid artificial supplements.

I have a kid who will soon turn 3. I'm so worried that she doesn't put on weight. Birth weight was 2.36 kgs. Uptill year 1 she gained well Theron it's minimal. Now too she weigh btw 10.6 to 10.80. Somehow each time I feel she will gain weight, she falls sick and loses weight. Hence her weight always stays within 11 kgs. She is otherwise a super active baby. My ped advised pediasure but nothing. Trying to get her eat the list given by a dietician but no results. I am worried.

There is no wonder drug/safe drug for the child so that they keep on eating. Weight of the child as per requirement should have been around​ 13 -14 kg. Instead of becoming more worried try to enroll variety in the food with 2hrly feeds for the baby. Also do not repeat the same food daily keep on changing. If the child is taking 2 glass of milk then its ok if not then enroll milk products in diet like paneer, shrikhand etc. Give halva, sweets etc along with dry fruits also. Give seasonal fruits. If there is difficulty is swallowing then give semisolid food after grinding in the mixer. Always give home-based food. At the end if the baby is getting ill again and again kindly meet you pediatrician to rule out immunodeficiency diseases.

The protein supplements are to be taken only after calculating your present intake and needs. Just because you work out does not mean you have to take a supplement. Also the type of protein you take totally depends on the type of workout and reasons for working out too. Also proteins are not stored by your body and if taken in excess of your needs they can cause side effects. Even if you were to take protein supplements they will not work in isolation. You have to have nutrient dense meal.

I am 61 yrs old and a diabetic since 2004. I take metformin tablets 1 gm twice one in the morning and one in the evening after meals & glyperimide 2 mg after breakfast. Other medicines are atorvastatin 10 mg, and bp medicine along with tablets containing multivitamins, minerals, antioxidants etc. I have been suffering from erectile dysfunction over the last few years but has worsened over the past few months. Is ed due to diabetes or due to my age?

Likely due to diabetes. Keep close control of it ==what is your hba1clevel? you r also overweight--which can reduce your performance.\ reduce your weight. Ask privately with more detailed reports and your sexual history. Some bp medicine also cause erectile problem. Send details.

Hi lybrate-user here are 6 ways to gain weight healthily: 1. Eating 5 to 6 meals a day in order to gain weight, start eating 5-6 meals a day by breaking them into parts. Eating a lot at once may cause indigestion if the body fails to absorb all nutrients. Eat in small amounts, even if you are not hungry and there will be an increase in appetite from day to day. The aim should be to have a generously portioned breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as two to three snacks in between. 2. Start weight training if you build your muscles through weight training, it will convert the extra weight into lean body mass and also stimulate your appetite. The extra muscle increases the rate of metabolism. When you start exercising you will often experience extreme muscle soreness but it goes away in 3-5 days. 3. Load up on protein besides weight training, a protein-rich diet can help you gain mass. Eating a meal heavy in protein shortly after finishing exercise can be highly effective in adding extra pounds to your body. However, a diet focused only on lean protein is not helpful. It is important to make sure that your diet has plenty of fat in it. Eat foods rich in protein like cheese, meat, eggs, etc to gain weight in a healthy manner. 4. Workout your entire body a lot of people focus only on training the muscles on their arms, chest and shoulders and this is a grave error. Firstly, it will give you a disproportionate body; and it will make you prone to injuries. Therefore, it's important to work out the entire body for a complete and balanced look. 5. Drink your calories to reach the calorie requirement only by eating may be tough. Drinking milk, milkshakes or protein shakes with little or no sugar can be an effective way to load up on the calorie requirements. 6. Be patient and believe in yourself gaining weight quickly in a healthy manner is unrealistic. Every body type is different and it takes months to gain weight. Living healthy by eating the right diet will increase your strength. It is also important to keep following the routine even if you don't see any gains. Caution: junk food and fried foods must be avoided; although have a tendency to add more fat to your body but are very low in vitamins and minerals which are essentially required to keep you really fit. Healthy weight gain means more increase in muscles and to a certain extent fat in order to support those muscles. Just eating anything or high calorie foods will result in only fat gain which will not give you a proper body shape and will also be detrimental later in life. A diet high in protein and adequate carbohydrate in necessary. In order to achieve a healthy weight you should know what you have to eat and how much to eat. I want to loose weight but due to my severe back bone issue (Disk slip in L5) 80% damage and have to undergo a surgery within 3 months, I am not able to put in sweat work out. Hi lybrate-user, weight loss is easy process you do not need to exercise, you can avoid food which are high in carbohydrates and insulin stimulating properties, adding more of alkaline food in diet will help in bone healing. Weight loss and bone healing can happen simultaneously. Smriti you are young it will be easy to lose for you.

Taking medicines is not enough. Is your diabetes (blood sugar) in control? what is your hba1c level? localized itching is often caused by uncontrolled diabetes. It can be caused by a yeast (fungal) infection, dry skin, or poor circulation. When poor circulation is the cause of itching, the itchiest areas may be the lower parts of the legs. You may be able to treat itching yourself. First, control your blood sugar levels. Second, limit your showers or baths to no more than 10 minutes, pat dry, and moisturize while your skin is still damp.

Health tips for patients of diabetes mellitus. I wont write long list of do's and dont's. Its simple things which you can follow in your everyday life.

1. Avoid eating following food items. Potato, rice, corn, corn flakes, market made cereal, muesli (contains added sugar), oily stuff such as parantha, poori & pakode.

2. Take a brisk walk for at least 30 kin per day preferably in morning. Brisk walking means at a pace when you start getting tired and sweaty.

3. Weight reduction is very important. Of you r overweight join some cardio program or swimming or jogging or walking to reduce weight

4. Take small meals frequently. Instead of having large meals at long intervals.

5. Ideally blood sugar should be checked daily but thats not possible in our scenario so once a week or twice a month is f9.

6. Get your eyes checked regularly for signs of diabetic retinopathy. Visit ophthalmologist as soon as you are diagnosed with type diabetes. You will be shocked to know that a large number of diabetics are diagnosed by their ophthalmologists

7. Diabetes have an effect on kidneys and nerves also so get renal function test every 6 monthly or so.

8. Foot care is very imp in diabetes because even a trivial injury in. Leg can become gangrene. Use silicone sole footwear available at medical shops. Never go outside with bare foot.

10. Regular medicine intake is very imp

11. Lastly diabetes is a lifestyle disorder. Sedentary lifestyle makes things worse and result into syndrome x which apart from diabetes also includes increased lipids in blood and hypertension. Adopt an active life style.

Only food can increase your stamina. Your Daily food intake should ideally consist of – a. Have plenty of nuts, dry fuits and seeds. Almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, figs, dates and raisins. They are full of healthy fats needed by a human body. B. Good amount of fruits and vegetables – Bananas, apples, pomegranate, green leafy vegetables. Fruits and vegetables helps in absorption of food in the body and together, completes your daily nutrition need. C. If you are a non- vegetarian - Eat eggs, chicken etc. D. Eat whole grains – Try to have multi grains spread throughout the day. Wheat, brown rice, oats, bajra, daliya etc should be taken in multiple meals in a day. E. Eat Sprouts – Chana and moong which are full of protein and nutrients. F. You can supplement your diet with good quality multi-vitamin capsules. If you are lacking in protein, you can buy a high quality whey protein and have it with banana shake twice a day. G. You can take natural food items like wheat grass which is full of essential nutrients which helps in weight gain.

My sugar level is 176 mg after 1 hour of lunch. I am 23 weeks pregnant. Am I considered diabetic? My gynae prescribed me 12 units of insulin inj daily broken up in 2 doses, each of 6 units before breakfast & before lunch. Is there any other alternative by which I can stop taking insulin. Will insulin effect my pregnancy and inter also my baby? Please guide/ suggest.

Hi lybrate-user firstly, start doing surya namaskar in morning and start eating triphla chooran (natural medicine) in morning empty stomach with luke warm water. Start a fruit dieting every alternative day, means you have to eat fruits every alternative days & normal fruit every other alternative days. Avoid late night dinners and try to eat nothing after sunset. Sit in vajrasana after every meal you eat for 10 minutes. Walk atleast 30 min in morning.
