High blood pressure: secondary hypertension what is secondary hypertension? high blood pressure caused by a disease or another known medical problem is called secondary hypertension. Most cases of secondary hypertension are caused by kidney or hormonal problems. Normal blood pressures average 120/80 (" 120 over 80") but can rise and fall with exercise or rest. The pressures are measured in millimeters of mercury, with the upper number (120) being the pressure at the end of the heartbeat (systolic pressure). The lower number (80) is the pressure at the beginning of the heartbeat (diastolic pressure). If repeated checks of your blood pressure show that it is higher than 140/90, you have hypertension. If your blood pressure is between 120/80 and 140/90, you may need treatment for high blood pressure if you have other health problems, such as diabetes. How does it occur? many medical conditions, diseases, and medicines can cause secondary hypertension, including? narrowing of the arteries in the kidneys? narrowing of the aorta, a large blood vessel that supplies blood to the lower body? several types of kidney disease? excess secretion of a hormone called aldosterone from the adrenal gland? tumor of the adrenal gland? cushing's syndrome, a disorder in which there is too much corticosteroid hormone in the blood? medicines such as estrogen and oral contraceptives? abuse of drugs such as amphetamines, alcohol, or diet pills? pregnancy. What are the symptoms? high blood pressure may not cause any symptoms. Even secondary hypertension may have few symptoms. Symptoms are usually general and may include? headaches? dizziness? fatigue? restlessness and sleeplessness? nosebleeds? palpitations or an awareness of your heartbeat? general feeling of ill health? the need to urinate often? round or" moon" face, excess body and facial hair, and weight gain if the high blood pressure is caused by cushing's syndrome. How is it diagnosed? your health care provider will ask about your symptoms and will do a physical exam. Blood tests, chest x-rays, and an electrocardiogram may be done. Your provider will want to measure your blood pressure on three different days when you are relaxed and not in a hurry and have not had alcohol for 72 hours. Your medical history is an important part of diagnosis. Your health care provider will ask about your personal and family history of high blood pressure and heart or kidney disease. How is it treated? secondary hypertension is treated by treating the condition causing the high blood pressure. For example, if you have high blood pressure caused by cushing's syndrome, treatment for cushing's will lower your blood pressure. Your health care provider may recommend additional treatments to lower your blood pressure, such as diuretics or other medicines that reduce blood pressure. How long will the effects last? if the cause can be diagnosed and treated, your blood pressure should improve. If you are taking medicine to reduce your blood pressure and your underlying condition is treated, you may be able to cut down or stop taking the blood pressure medicine. How can I take care of myself? always follow your health care provider's instructions for taking medicines. Don't take less medicine or stop taking medicine without talking to your provider first. It can be dangerous to suddenly stop taking blood pressure medicine. Also, do not increase your dosage of any medicine without first talking with your provider? check your blood pressure (or have it checked) as often as your health care provider advises. Keep a chart of the readings? don't smoke? reduce the salt in your diet according to your health care provider's advice? with your provider's approval, start an exercise program that you can do regularly (such as biking or walking)? lose weight if you need to? limit the amount of alcohol you drink? try to reduce the stress in your life or learn how to deal better with situations that make you feel anxious? see your health care provider as often as he or she recommends. What can be done to help prevent secondary hypertension? most of the conditions that cause secondary hypertension cannot be prevented. However, regular checkups can help detect many conditions before they become serious, including those that can result in high blood pressure.

Hello dear High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. And 1 glass of water before bed at night. use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. garlic,. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

Homeopathic Remedies for High Blood Pressure

Homeopathic Remedies for High Blood Pressure

Hypertension or high blood pressure in common parlance is caused by irregular blood circulation in the blood vessels. High blood pressure has been an established cause for several fatal and critical heart diseases. Middle aged individuals are more prone to heart diseases caused by high blood pressure. Doctors also caution those with stressful lifestyles to keep the blood pressure levels in control. While there are prescribed drugs aimed at curing high blood pressure troubles, a large number of people are reposing their trust in homeopathy for treating high blood pressure.

Among a long drawn process of cures, homeopathic treatments are extremely effective and trustworthy methods:

  1. Aconitum: Certain high blood pressure conditions have sudden outbursts. It inflicts a fear of dying and acute anxiety disorder. Aconitum abates such situations.
  2. Argentum Nitricum: At times high blood pressure occurs due to anxiety and mental agitations. Argentum Nitricum is an effective remedy in curing such conditions.
  3. Natrum Muriaticum: Certain high blood pressure conditions arise due to suppressed anger and stress. Harrowing events of the past and unsolved issues can induce heightened blood pressure levels. Natrum Muriaticum is a perfect solution for such troubles.
  4. Veratum Viride: Veratum Viride helps in reducing arterial tension and normalizing cardiac palpitations.
  5. Natural Supplements: For a variety of ailments caused by high blood pressure, homeopathy offers certain natural supplements like Co enzyme, Hawthorne, Omega-3, Vitamin E for remedying blood pressure concerns. It improves heart function and prevents blood clotting.
  6. Ignatia: To heal high blood pressure caused by emotional upsurges, grief and trauma, Ignatia can be perceived as a useful remedy.
  7. Belladonna: This is an emergency medical condition caused by vigorous throbbing of arteries which may progress to haemorrhaging. Belladonna goes a long way in taming such untoward medical emergencies.
  8. Lachesis: Certain bodily changes result in high blood pressure, especially in the cases of women. During the onset of menopause, high blood pressure becomes a common concomitant. Lachesis is used to treat such issues.
  9. Glonoinum: On certain occasions blood pressure level shoots up due to heat and excess exposure to the sun. Glonoinum is aimed at controlling the blood pressure levels in those situations.

Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It is a difficult task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose – SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For diabetes, hypertension (high BP) and many long-term illness control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance. If you keep in touch personally. Dear Mr. lybrate-user, The symptoms that you have mentioned can definitely occur as a result of anxiety or depression. Considering the fact that your Echo and ECG are normal, anxiety /depression seems to be the most likely cause. You should seek a psychiatric consultation to undergo complete evaluation. Accordingly treatment can be initiated in form of medications or psychotherapy. Start doing relaxation exercises in a regular basis like meditation or deep breathing. I do hope that you are able to overcome your symptoms soon. Best wishes.

For your chest pain -- if possible do a fresh stress test and if it is negative than we can rule out the cardiac cause for your chest pain.
