My wife delivered our first child at the age of 35 in a gynic hospital. She had pph- dic after delivery. She was given carboprost, 2 units of blood, and 2 units of ff plasma (i do not know the volume in ml.). I faintly recall the doctor saying she had to compress the uterus. Maybe in 3 hours the bleeding stopped. The next day in the laboratory the clotting test gave normal results. My queries: 1) can dic occur during delivery without uterine atony? 2) my wife is 15-20 days pregnant now at the age of 42-43. Should we abort on the grounds of fear of pph-dic only, (not considering other things like down syndrome). Our gynaec says that pph may not necessarily occur. But if at all it occurs: can active management of the third stage of labour (or by any other method) her life be saved? what is the probability of risk? what will happen to an individual cannot be predicted but in what percentage the odds are, I would like to know. Whether we should take the risk? her hemoglobin is around 9-10.

The chances of a third stage complication like PPH ocurring in the next pregnancy is about 12 %. So it is not absolute. History of PPH is not a reason to have abortion this time around unless there is some other reason for it. Your wife needs to start taking iron supplements so as to raise her Hb levels to at least 11.5%. Percentage of odds doesnt matter as it may or may not happen however in the eevnt that severe PPH does happen there is a possibility that the doctor will consent her for emergency hysterectomy as a life saving measure

Hi doctor. I would like to know about breast cancer, what is it? it's causes? symptoms etc..

MD - Radiation Oncology, MBBS
Oncologist, Delhi
Breast cancer as the name suggests is cancer that starts in breast. It generally starts with a small lump in the breast. If not treated on time can progress to involve the whole breast and may even spread to other parts of body. No specific cause but increase exposure to hormones, not breastfeeding children, having late children, postmenopausal hormone therapy, obesity etc are some of the known risk factors.

5 Foods That Care For Your Vagina

5 Foods That Care For Your Vagina
How to improve your vaginal health?

There is very little awareness or action to ensure vaginal health for women. There aren't many public discussions to be witnessed and women basically survive on whatever little they know and experience.

Here are a few things you can do to improve your vaginal health, naturally:

1. Drink lots of water - our body is 70% water. And water alone is the cure to a lot of our basic health problems. To have a healthy vagina too, you should drink a lot of water. The science behind this is that mucous vaginal membranes need a lot of water.

2. Go nuts - almonds, flaxseeds, walnuts, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds, and such nuts should be eaten in plenty. The essential minerals in them regulate your monthly cycle and also ensure that you do not face dryness, itchiness, etc.

3. Have garlic - we all know that garlic has anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties. Eating them raw helps cure infections. Wrapping a clove of fresh garlic into gauze and making a sort of a tampon, inserting it into your vagina and leaving it overnight would actually cure itchiness, dryness and infections.

4. Try cranberry juice - cranberries (the pure form, and not the bottled ones) are known to be beneficial for the bladder. They also acidify the urine and balance the ph in your vagina.

5. Less sugar is good - sugars, wheat and alcohols should be avoided when trying to heal an infection. It is advisable to consume these products as less as possible. The sweetness from all these foods disbalance the ph level of the vagina. If you want your vagina to be healthy, avoid rich, processed and sugary foods, and eat a balanced diet with a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Vaginal Atrophy: What the CLOSER Survey Reveals

Vaginal atrophy (VA) has a great effect on women and their male partners, according to survey results recently published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

It’s possible that these results may prompt more communication about VA between couples and their healthcare providers.

Vaginal atrophy refers to changes in the vagina caused by menopause. When estrogen levels drop, the vagina may lose some elasticity, leading to dryness, discomfort, and pain. Some studies estimate that over half of women experience some degree of vaginal atrophy. However, VA is not something many women freely discuss.

To learn more about how VA affects women and their male partners, a research team from Italy and the United States conducted a survey, which was administered online to 4,100 women and 4,100 men from nine countries: the United Kingdom, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, France, Canada, and the U.S.

The assessment was called the CLOSER (CLarifying Vaginal Atrophy’s Impact On SEx and Relationships) Survey.

The women were between 55 and 65 years old and had stopped menstruating at least 12 months prior to the survey. They also had symptoms of VA.
The men were in relationships with postmenopausal women aged 55 to 65 who had vaginal discomfort. They were not partnered with the female participants.

For both men and women, VA/vaginal discomfort were described as, “dryness, itching, burning, or soreness in the vagina, bleeding during intercourse, pain during urination, or pain in the vagina in connection with touching and/or intercourse.”

The survey included questions about vaginal discomfort, its symptoms, and its effects on intimacy, relationships, and self-esteem. Participants were also asked about erectile dysfunction (ED) and VA treatments, such as local estrogen therapy (LET).

Most of the women (72%) said that they told their partners when they first felt vaginal discomfort. The other 28% did not do so, explaining that they were embarrassed or thought their symptoms were a normal part of aging. Thirty-six percent said they would try self-treatment before telling their partner about their symptoms.

The authors noted that the men were more likely to discuss VA than the women were, although they were not always aware that sex was uncomfortable for their partner.

Half the women said they were “upset their body does not work as it used to.” Others reported that they felt old and sexually unattractive. Some lost confidence as a sexual partner and others felt that the symptoms would never go away.

Many sexual behaviors changed as a result of VA. Over half the participants said they had less sex and almost a quarter stopped having sex altogether. Sixty-two percent of the women and 76% of the men said they avoided intimacy.

Fifty-eight percent of the women used vaginal moisturizers or lubricants to alleviate their symptoms. Only 15% of the men knew that their partner was using this type of treatment.

Local estrogen therapy appeared to improve sex lives, relationships, and quality of life. Over half the men and women said that sex was less painful and almost half the women said sex was more satisfying.

The researchers stressed the importance of communication about VA between couples themselves and with their healthcare providers.

They also explained the role of healthcare providers in that discussion. “Because women may not be willing to openly discuss the vaginal discomfort they are experiencing, it is crucial for [healthcare providers] to be proactive in helping women address the issue of VA,” they wrote.

You may go to work or school on the day following the procedure. However, REMEMBER no strenuous exercise or heavy lifting over 20 kgs because this can cause you to bleed more. Be sure to take all of the medications given to you according to the directions on the label. We do not advise douching in general, but especially refrain from douching until after your follow-up exam. All of your pregnancy signs and symptoms (except breast tenderness) should decrease within 48-72 hours. Your next period should start four to eight weeks after your abortion. In case you do not get your periods after 8 weeks, consult your Doctor. It is possible to get pregnant right after your abortion, so if pregnancy is not desired, a method of birth control is recommended.

Garlic Powder Benefits And Nutrition Fact

MBBS,CCA,DCA,AASECT,FPA,AAD,F.H.R.SM.I.M.S
General Physician, Gorakhpur
Garlic Powder Benefits And Nutrition Fact

Garlic powder is an excellent spice that should be kept on any spice rack. This can be an excellent replacement for fresh garlic. If you have ever cooked with garlic, then you know it is one of the most pungent and powerful flavors you can add to a dish, and garlic powder is much the same. It delivers a number of important nutrients, which provide various health benefits.

What is garlic powder?

Garlic powder is the ground form of dehydrated garlic, and it has a number of benefits over fresh garlic. When you dehydrate garlic, you extend its shelf life exponentially, so it can be stored for months or even years without losing its potency.

Furthermore, garlic powder can be a more subtle way of imbuing an entire dish with the flavor of garlic, rather than simply adding individually chopped or minced cloves. This powder is quite easy to make, and you will find it on many different meals, from pizza and ranch dressing to avocados and as an ingredient in barbecue sauce. The versatility and delicious flavor of garlic powder make it a favorite spice around the world.

What’s more? garlic powder also delivers many of the best parts of garlic, in terms of health. Using this spice regularly can give your cooking and your overall wellness a boost.

Garlic powder nutrition facts

Garlic powder has a wide range of nutrients, including vitamin c, iron, calcium, protein, dietary fiber, and a small amount of sodium and sugar. While the concentration of these nutrients is significantly less than fresh garlic cloves, particularly in vitamin c content, there are still a number of antioxidants and organic compounds like allicin that can boost your health.

garlic powder health benefits

The most important health benefits of garlic powder include its ability to lower overall cholesterol levels, improve the immune system, prevent certain cancers, and aid digestion, among others.

Balances cholesterol levels

Although garlic lacks allicin, it is the active ingredient in crushed garlic and has a positive effect on your cholesterol levels and reduces plaque buildup in the arteries and blood vessels. It can also help to lower blood pressure!

Prevents cancer

There are a number of antioxidants in garlic powder that can help to reduce oxidative stress throughout the body, relieve inflammation, and prevent cellular mutation, which can lead to cancer.

Boosts immune system

Although the vitamin c level is significantly depleted when garlic is dehydrated, there are still immune-boosting properties of this spice, coming partially from other minerals and antioxidants present in it.

Aids in digestion

If your stomach is upset or if you have indigestion, some of the organic compoundsfound in garlic powder, as well as the iron and dietary fiber, can help move your bowels smoothly and relieve constipation.

How to make garlic powder?

If you want to make garlic powder at home, it is surprisingly easy to do, provided you have raw garlic, a bit of time and patience. Follow the simple steps below and you’ll have your homemade garlic powder before you know it! the only component in garlic powder is garlic itself, although many people add salt to the mixture, which is then called garlic salt.

Step 1 – peel as many garlic cloves as you want to use (3-4 bulbs is good for a seasonal supply).

Step 2 – slice them thinly and then place them on a plate.

Step 3 – turn the oven to 175 degrees and heat the garlic cloves until they are completely dry.

Step 4 – once they are completely dehydrated, grind them in a blender or with a mortar and pestle.

Step 5 – strain the mixture so only the powder remains.

Step 6 – store in an airtight spice jar between uses.

Side effects of garlic powder

There are some dangers of consuming too much of this powder, as well as potential risks for people with certain medical conditions. The most common problems include gastrointestinal distress, problems with bleeding disorders, bad breath, muscle aches, and dizziness, among others. If you consume garlic powder in moderation, you have little risk of experiencing these side effects.

  • Bleeding disorders – for people who consume an excessive amount of garlic powder, bleeding problems have been known to worsen, so always use this spice in moderation.
  • Bad breath – as with any garlic product, this powder has a powerful smell, which can lead to bad breath, although it can also help to eliminate oral infections!
  • Muscle ache – when too much of this herb is ingested, or if you suffer from a mild allergy, it could cause muscle spasms or aches.
  • Stomach issues – stomach aches, cramping and bloating can happen if too much of this powder is consumed.
  • Dizziness and headache – some people report symptoms of headaches and dizziness, as well as lightheadedness, sweating, fatigue, and nausea if they use too much of this spice at one time.
