Cholesterol - 6 Surprising Facts About It!

Cholesterol - 6 Surprising Facts About It!

Do you know that cholesterol is found in baby formula and has got some surprising facts about them? Cholesterol is a waxy, fat like substance which is present in all your cells, and your body’s cholesterol level says a lot about the health of your heart in the future. Having high cholesterol increases your risk of acquiring heart diseases and hence, you should try to maintain a normal cholesterol level.

Here are some surprising facts about cholesterol, which you should know about:

  1. You cannot live without cholesterol: We are born with cholesterol in our bodies and infants get more cholesterol from mother’s milk. This is why cholesterol is added to baby formula. All the hormones and cells of your body need cholesterol for proper functioning. It also builds the cells and helps the liver to prepare fat processing acids.
  2. One out of three adults have high cholesterol: It is important for all people above the age of 20 to get a cholesterol checkup every five years. According to studies, around 32% of adults in the USA have got high cholesterol levels. Your cholesterol levels may also be affected by factors such as your diet and stress.
  3. High cholesterol can be genetic: Genetics is a major influencing factor in high cholesterol levels. Research has proven that almost 75% of high cholesterol cases are genetic in nature while 25% occur because of diet.
  4. Children can have high cholesterol as well: There is a common misconception that high cholesterol is an issue involving adults only. However, children may also have high cholesterol and it is recommended for you to get your child tested at an early age. For children who are obese and have a family history of heart attacks and high cholesterol, a selective screening is important.
  5. Sweating raises the levels of good cholesterol: Sweating is good for increasing the levels of good cholesterol in your body. You should follow a healthy diet including food items like avocado and salmon. Working out is also important for raising your HDL levels, which prevent heart disease.
  6. Supplements may help in lowering cholesterol levels: The first option for controlling your cholesterol levels is to work out regularly. If you are at a risk of heart attack or have hypercholesterolemia, you have to bank on supplements such as plant stanols and sterols. You can also take cholesterol reducing medications such as statins.

Earlier, the medical community was reserved about prescribing cholesterol lowering medicines and they were given only to critical heart patients. In modern day, statin treatment is recommended to people who have even little chances of heart attacks or stroke. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a General Physician.

Hello Doctor. I have my graduation day in 3 weeks and my acne marks have been reducing but its taking too long. My dermatoligist gave me ointments many ointments for my dry skin and acne. He told me that first the acne should go and then the marks. He also gave me an acne marks cream. But I have no acne on my face , I just have acne marks. What do I do? Will exercising or eating certain fruits reduce the marks? I dont want any ointments. So can you please help doctor?

MD - Dermatology, MBBS
Dermatologist, Mumbai
Hello. Acne marks lighten gradually. To hasten the lightening, a dermatologist may advise you in clinic procedures like peels or microdermabrasion. Having fruits and regular exercise will help you in the long run but would not reduce marks in a short time.

Different Ways to Boost Women's Health

Different Ways to Boost Women's Health

Women's health concerns are a little different from those of men. If you're a woman, these tips will soon have you feeling fit and energetic.

Eat a healthy diet: you want to eat as close to a natural foods diet as you can, that means a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables and fewer processed foods. Eat whole grains and high-fiber foods and choose leaner cuts of meat, fish, and poultry. Include low-fat dairy products in your diet as well - depending on your age, you need between 800 and 1, 500 milligrams of calcium daily to help avoid osteoporosis. Avoid foods and beverages that are high in calories, sugar, salt, and fat.

Apple cider vinegar in water is the best way to start your day. This bitter drink helps to stimulate the stomach's digestive juices, to help with food digestion. Try taking two teaspoons in water 10 minutes before breakfast.

Healthy eating will help you maintain a proper weight for your height, which is important because being overweight can lead to a number of illnesses. Try some raw vegetables, such as celery, carrots, broccoli, cucumbers, or zucchini with a dip made from low-fat yogurt.

Exercise: you want to exercise at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week, if not every day. Aerobic exercises (walking, swimming, jogging, bicycling, dancing) are good for women's health in general and especially for your heart

Manage stress: no matter what stage of her life - daughter, mother, grandmother - a woman often wears many hats and deals with a lot of pressure and stress. Take a few minutes every day just to relax and get your perspective back again. It doesn't take long, and mental health is important to your physical well-being.' you also can manage stress with exercise, relaxation techniques, or meditation.

Avoid risky habits: stay away from cigarettes and people who smoke. Don't use drugs. If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation. Most women's health studies show that women can safely consume one drink a day

Have 1 teaspoonful of licorice root powder with water empty stomach in the morning. This is mentioned as a medhya rasayana in Ayurveda i.e. a mind rejuvenator. Add some fresh rose petals in a cup of boiling water. Keep it aside till it is lukewarm. Add ½ teaspoonful of sugar to it and have this twice a day. This is a good drink to uplift mood. Warm mustard oil or sesame oil (1 teaspoon) with 3-4 cloves of crushed garlic and 1 tsp of ajwain (carom) seeds until it roasts to a reddish brown colour. Ensure that it does not get burned. Best foods for skin

MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy

Best foods for skin

Antioxidant-rich foods seem to have a protective effect for the skin. Consider these skin-friendly foods: carrots, apricots, and other yellow and orange fruits and vegetables, spinach and other green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, blueberries, beans, peas and lentils, salmon, mackerel and other fatty fish, nuts. On the flip side, some foods seem to be associated with skin damage. For example, some research suggests that a diet high in processed or refined carbohydrates and unhealthy fats promotes skin aging. Remember, many of the best foods for healthy skin also promote good health overall. Rather than focusing on specific foods for healthy skin, concentrate on a healthy diet in general. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Choose low-fat or fat-free dairy products. Include nuts, seeds and beans in your favorite meals. Opt for whole-grain breads and pasta. Limit sweets.

Mera divorce ho gaya hai. 2 yrs ho gaye hai. Ab mein mom ke ghar hu. Bahot sare reason the. But usko bhul nhi pa rahi. Baar baar uski need mahsus hoti hai. Koi bhi aapna nhi lagta. Dat time I feel dat.

Psychologist,
Recovering from a divorce can and will take time. There will be things that you like and don' t like about a person. If the reasons for divorce were strong enough for you and you took the decision and stuck through then that was a choice you made. Now you are making the choice of staying with his memories and not willing to move on. What is it that you get out of this behaviour? whatever you need from him can be fulfilled by other people also if you give them a chance. You need to trust people a little bit on small things to build trust on more important matters. Try to keep yourself occupied with work that you like to do and must do. Do meet people who understand your problem and are supportive but not sympathetic. Sympathy will keep you in this rut of feeling sorry for yourself. Having goals and mission for your life is a good way to get the most out of life and relationships. Ultimately, what you do with your life and time is your choice. Take care.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Can a mantra or sound be used as a medicine?

The answer is yes. The difference between a Mantra and a sound is that Mantra sound is an energized sound with medicinal values. There are many aspects of Mantra as a sound:

The type of sound matters. It is well?known that chanting of vowel sounds produces interleukin?2 in the body, which has the same action as that of aspirin and works like a natural painkiller. Chanting of nasal consonants produces delta activity in the EEG and has similar action like tranquilizers. Chanting of other consonants has different actions in the body. For example, chanting of LUM reduces fear, VUM reduces attachments, RUM reduces doubt, YUM increases love, HUM increases truthfulness and AUM non?judgmental activities.
Mantra sounds can be vibratory or non?vibratory. Vibratory sounds use nasal consonants and vibrate bones beginning from mandible, spine, and the automatic plexus lying along the spine. Chanting of nasal consonants leads to a parasympathetic state.
Chanting of mantra is associated with reduced respiratory rate, which leads to parasympathetic state of the body. Ideally, the respiratory rate should be reduced to 4 per minute and then continue it for next 20 minutes i.e. 80 breaths in 20 minutes. This can be done by chanting, for example, the whole Gayatri mantra in one respiratory cycle.
How one chants also matters. The yogic way of chanting is when the mind is in mantra or the chanting. This leads to deeper relaxation.
Understanding the meaning of the Mantra you chant also matters. If you do understand the meaning, the chanting benefits will be more. Foreigners do not understand the meaning of Indian Mantras but yet they get benefits. But if they chant with understanding the meaning of the Mantra, the health benefits will be more.
Chanting a mantra with its meaning in the mind invokes the power of intention. It?s like getting connected to any search engine on the internet and typing your query. Your consciousness in the body is the internet and the intention the search button.
Chanting a mantra with its meaning in the mind also results in emotions and expressions, which have an added advantage.
Overtone chanting has additional benefits. The new sound heals not only those who are chanting but also those who are listening and bystanders.
Group chanting is more powerful. If 1% population chants together, rest 99% also gets the benefits.
One can also do distance healing by chanting at a far distance. The only way one can explain this is by understanding consciousness as an internet cum social site model. Each one of us has our page in the internet (soul) as well as a page in the cloud internet (spirit). All our pages are connected with every person in this earth through the cloud internet. People can chant at a distance and their audio file with intent automatically gets posted on their soul internet and the cloud internet. The person for whom we pray by chanting gets the benefit whenever he is connected to the cloud internet.
During chanting, the mind may be distracted. Continuously chanting of Mantra for 12 seconds means concentration, 1212 seconds is contemplation and 144144 seconds is meditation. So by concentrating on the object of concentration, the mantra, one can avoid diversion of the mind.
The intensity or the loudness of the chanting sound also matters. Higher the loudness, less will be the effects. Japa meditation involves two hours of Mantra chanting to get the benefit. In a non Japa meditation, these benefits can be acquired in 20 minutes. Thoughtless chanting is more powerful than verbal Mantra chanting. Vipasana is chanting without Mantra where you are just aware of the breath and one has to do this type of meditation for hours together to get the benefit.
During Chautha or Teravi (mourning period), Mantras or prayers are chanted for one hour. This helps relax the mind, shifts one from sympathetic to parasympathetic mode. In the initial 15 minutes, there is sympathetic overactivity and the person is restless. As the time passes, parasympathetic state takes over and by the time one hour is over, parasympathetic state is at its full blown activity and at that time getting connected to cloud internet is easier.

Only those who are connected to the dead person and want to get distressed attend the full one hour of Chautha ceremony. These people have empathy for the deceased person. Those who wish to express sympathy, mostly show up before or after the Chautha ceremony to complete their formality.

In Chautha, we say that Bhagwan Uski Aatma Ko Shanti De. God will forgive him only if the soul is destressed, which can happen only if there are some non?fulfilled desires and these desires will always be linked to a particular person. Therefore, only those who have guilt will feel that the deceased person?s soul is not at rest.

In a Chautha ceremony, one can only remove this guilt in the parasympathetic phase towards the end of the Chautha ritual and seeks forgive and forgiveness.
In different religions, this has different implications. In Hinduism, we only attend Chautha of whom we know but in Islam people attend the mourning ceremony of people whom they not even know. They believe in mass prayers and pray for the soul of the deceased person. In Islam this mass prayer message gets written on the cloud internet and has mass effect in the community.

In Islam, a person usually says Mein khuda se tumhare liye dua mangunga. It is possible for them as they offer Namaz five times in a day and when they ask for Dua for someone they put the intent in the cloud internet which can be retrieved by others.

In Christians, it is different. The dying patients or the relatives ask the doctors and others to pray with them and not only for them.

Mene asa suna he ki agar hum kam khate he to bhi hamara vajan badta he kyuki hamare brain me koi hormon ki kami hoti ...
Hi lybrate-user, A myriad of factors can contribute to weight gain among individuals who believe they’re eating wholesome foods. It’s not just what you eat, but how much, and when. Even the amount of sleep you get each night can affect your weight. 1. Check What you are eating: Examine the quantity of healthy food you’re consuming and the ratio of liquid versus whole foods. Just because a food is considered “healthy,” doesn’t mean you can eat unhealthy amounts of it. 2. Don’t Rush or Skip Meals - Rushing through meals can cause you to eat more than you planned. Chew deliberately during your meal and drink water between bites to slow down your typical eating pace. 3. Keep Your Metabolism Moving - You need about an hour of exercise a day, even if you’re eating healthy. This doesn’t have to be a heart-pounding cardio workout; a simple walk is a good start. 4. Get your hormones tested - Sometimes our body works against us, despite our best efforts. If you have a family or personal history of endocrine problems such as hypothyroidism, Cushing’s, polycystic ovarian syndrome, or you’re going through menopause (average age for women is 51), andropause (more gradual for men), or perimenopause (8 to 10 years before menopause), you may want to have your doctor check that your hormones are in balance. Hormonal imbalances can make it difficult to lose weight, and in some cases, can cause you to add on pounds. 5. Get Abundant, Restful Sleep - The quality and quantity of your sleep is just as important as the kind of food you eat. You may want a doctor to assess the quality of your sleep if you wake up with a dry mouth or headache or are tired, even after a 7- to 8-hour rest. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
