How Ayurvedic Remedies Help You Treat Diabetes?

Are you suffering from diabetes? If yes, then it’s time for you to be extra careful about your health. Diabetes may cause several other diseases as well. You must check your lifestyle and take efforts to get rid of diabetes as soon as possible. If you have diabetes, then youu are at risk of developing nerve damages (neuropathy), vascular injuries and other heart diseases, regardless of your age, sex or other external or internal factors. Diabetes patients must strive to maintain fasting blood glucose levels less than 110 mg/dL and hemoglobin HbA1C level less than 7%. Also, diabetes patients should keep a check on blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Here’s how diabetes can affect your overall health:
There is a correlation between blood pressure, cholesterol levels and diabetes. Researchers have found that high bad cholesterol levels act as hindrance to insulin regulation. People with diabetes are more likely to develop heart-related diseases. About 60% diabetes patients die due to heart attacks. Diabetes is responsible for hardening of arteries or atherosclerosis. This situation is dangerous and can cause heart attacks, strokes or other chronic diseases.

Diabetes leads to impaired nerve function. This is called neuropathy. This condition is of two types: Peripheral (affects toes, feet, legs, hand, and arms) and Autonomic (affects digestion, bowel, bladder, heart and sexual activity). Symptoms of neuropathy include tingling, weakness, burning sensation, numbness in the limbs, digestive disorders, infection of the bladder and erectile dysfunction.

Diabetes is responsible for causing damage to the kidneys as well. This is called nephropathy. In this condition, the filters in the kidney or glomeruli get damaged. As a result, there is a leakage of protein in the urine. Consequently, kidneys get damaged. Urine showing small amounts of protein is an indication of kidney damage. About 20-40% patients suffering from diabetes die due to renal failure. The symptoms of renal disorder due to diabetes include itching, fatigue, urine with protein, swelling of feet and ankles and pale skin colour.

Diabetes causes non-injury amputations as it affects the nerve in the limbs, especially foot. Usually, minor infections in the foot may lead to ulcers and later require amputation. In rare cases, charcot joint or charcot foot may also occur. This is called neuropathic arthropathy. The symptoms include swelling and reddening of the foot. The bones of the affected foot have a tendency to develop cracks, deforming the entire region. Diabetes leads to blindness in adults. The eye disorder caused due to diabetes is called retinopathy. Patients with diabetes develop cataract easily. The capillaries and blood vessels in the retina get damaged or obstructed, resulting in damage to the entire retina.

Ayurvedic remedies for diabetes:

  1. Plan your diet as it is one of the most important thing in order to manage your diabetes. One must take balanced diet. But avoid foods increasing the Kapha Dosha. These include sugar, fats, potatoes, rice. You must avoid alcohol
  2. Take the help of physical exercises or yoga to stay fit.
  3. Check your weight.
  4. Don’t sleep during daytime.

Here is a list of useful herbs for diabetes management–

  1. Jambhul (Eugenia jambolana) powder from jamun core.
  2. Gurmar(gymnema sylvestre)
  3. Bitter Gourd/bitter melon (Momordica charantia)
  4. Bel (Aegle marmelos).
  5. Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum)
  6. Turmeric
  7. Neem
  8. Triphala
  9. Shilajit

Apart from these basic natural foods, you must contact an Ayuvedic practitioner, who will help you not just in planning your diet, but will suggest certain specific Ayurvedic medicines which will boost you efforts to get rid of diabetes.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

I have thyroid. Taking eltroxin 100 mg everyday Is it safe? what are the side effects of the pills I take.? Last TSH was around 7. 2 months ago Can it be reduced to normal again? what are the ways to reduce Thyroid? Any other precaution / suggestions?

BAMS
Ayurveda, Pune
Thyroid level can be reduced and keep in limit by some medicines and diet. Before that you must undergo prakriti parikshan by any ayurvedic doctor to know more about your body and appropriate shodana karma of body. Thyroid can be treated with ayurvedic medicines or can be controlled with higher bodily functions without much medicines. Until then take tab. Raktpachak vati 2 tabs twice a day tab. Arogyavardhini vati 2tabs twice a day.

How I control my bp, sugar, chloestrol. I have black spot on my cheeks. Give me some advice.
for controlling high blood sugar one has to take prescribed drugs regularly and follow certain life style changes. 1) exercise regularly for at least 1 h a day, 2) avoid sweets, sugar, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, 3) maintain near normal weight for age and height, 4) increase the intake of green vegetables, salads and certain fruits. In addition for high blood pressure restrict salt intake to less than 2g a day. No extra salt while eating. About black spot it is difficult to advise any thing.

high cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take green veg., whole grain. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

Fasting blood sugar should ideally be less than 125. Since in your case it is 208, I advise you to take medication. Please do continue your exercise. If your weight is at least 50 kg and you are not allergic to metformin and you don't have a history of any kidney or liver problems, you can start Metformin 500mg extended release once at bed time. Before this, do measure your Serum Creatinine values.

Yes. Homeopathic remedies for high uric acid provide an excellent cure. Treatment of elevated uric acid levels with homeopathic remedies not only lowers the levels but also treats body’s defective tendency to hold  excess of uric acid. Homeopathic remedies also treat the body’s metabolic process which handles purines (kind of protein which ends up as uric acid after the body processes it. These are the top homeopathic medicines for elevated uric acid levels that I have found to be very effective colchi, ledum, guaicum, benzoic acid, lithium etc Tips for increased uric acid levels and gout Watch your weight. Try to lose weight slowly. Eat fresh fruit, vegetables, whole wheat products and some pulses (high in purine) every day. Enjoy low-fat milk and dairy products daily. Keep an eye on the purine content of food. Avoid offal, shellfish and crustaceans and tinned fish such as sardines in oil. Eat no more than 100g of meat, sausages, fish and poultry a day. Drink alcohol only occasionally, as it affects the elimination of uric acid. Eat low-fat food. The consumption of high-fat foods encourages weight gain. Drink at least two litres of low-calorie fluids a day. Recommended fluids are water, tea and fruit juice. .consult me by clicking on consult option for homoepathic treatment without side effects.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. I have gone through the details, I understand your concern. Please answer following few questions: Do your parents or any one in the family have diabetes? Have you been loosing weight over last few weeks or months? Is there excess thirst, excess urination and hunger as well as general weakness during last few weeks or months? The blood glucose reduction that you have reported (from 375 mg to 180 mg) has occurred on its own or after taking any medication? What is the present treatment with details of drugs and dosage? It is necessary to know all these details, before one can look at how to control your blood glucose rise. Another important aspect is that if DIABETES is CONFIRMED then treatment has to go on for Life Time. There is no Cure. If you do not take necessary care, then there can be very severe long term consequences related to every single system in the body. So my suggestion is please initiate appropriate treatment with modern anti diabetic drugs and continue the same. Strict blood glucose control is absolutely essential. Fasting should be <100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c%<6.8. It will be good if you provide all the details and come in a private conversation then I will be able to guide and help treat your condition effectively. Thanks.

Yes fasting and post prandial blod sugar levels are important as HBA1C SHOWS ONLY LONG TERM COntrol of blood sugar ,your doses of medicines will be increased or decreased depending on fasting and pp blood sugar levels target fasting post by pass is less then 100 and target pp post by pass is less then 200, fasting plays a more important role and needs to be controlled.

You are already having grade 1 obesity with a bmi of 32.66 kg/m2. Plus if your hypothyroidism is not in control, that will add to weight gain and depression. You have not mentioned about current tsh level. If hypothyroidism is well controlled then tsh should be between 3 to 4 mill units/ml. If not all the symptoms of hypothyroidism which include weight gain, aniety and depression will continue to remain and even increase. So please check tsh levels and come back. Thanks.
