I would suggest that though good treatments are available, go for termination if diagnosis at 13 weeks is confirmed. Get a second opinion through ultrasound to diagnose AVSD at 13 weeks.

She is having nasal allergy and therefore nose block and sore throat and repeated cough. Unless her nasal allergy gets treated cough will not stop. Cough is due to persistent trickling of nose secretions from the back of nose over throat.

Congratulations on the new arrival! I am sure you already know that breast milk is the best medicine! do not worry, make sure your baby gets enough of it. Also, do not forget well-baby visits to your doctor and the immunisation as well.

General Physician,
My baby boy has completed 8 months on 29 DEC. please suggest me a healthy food chart with proper timings.
He can be given all homemade foods. No need for a separate chart Bring on some spices (8 months old) and softly mashed, or chopped into fine pieces, fruits, vegetables, meats, pasta and dairy such as yogurt and cheeses. Pasta, veggies, and fruit should all be soft cooked and possibly mashed with a fork or masher.

Add semi solids and solids like dal roti khichadi kheer etc well cooked in oil or ghee in her diet. If she is taking milk in small quantity, increase frequency. Do not force. Passing urine many time may be due to excess water intake which contribute to taking less diet too.

6 Common Ear Problems in Children

MBBS, MS - ENT, DNB
ENT Specialist, Gurgaon
6 Common Ear Problems in Children

The ear is made up of three parts that is outer, middle and the inner part. Infections, disorders and ailments in the ear can occur across all age groups and in any part of the ear. Ear ailments are more common in children than in adults as the Eustachian tubes (tubes which drain out ear fluid) are smaller in children.

Here are a few common ailments which occur in children:

  1. Acute otitis media: AOM is the most common ear infection in children. Some parts of the middle ear are infected, resulting in swelling and blockage of fluid behind the eardrum. This condition is characterised by earache in children and in graver conditions, can also cause fever.
  2. Otitis media with effusion: This condition usually occurs due to the infestation of an infection when the fluid gets restricted behind the ear drum. This condition doesn’t exhibit too many symptoms except mild earache. You should consult an ENT specialist who can diagnose this condition by checking the concentration of fluid behind the eardrum using special instruments.
  3. Chronic otitis media with effusion: This condition occurs in children when the fluid remains trapped behind the eardrum for a long period of time. It can lead to serious infection and can cause hearing problem in children.
  4. Barotrauma: Barotrauma occurs due to changes in atmospheric pressure changes. It can cause problems in the Eustachian tube and causes trapping of air in the middle ear. Middle ear problems can become severe if left untreated and result in a burst in the eardrum, causing excessive bleeding.
  5. Meniere's disease: This is a disorder, which comes in bouts and is characterised by vertigo and fluctuating hearing loss. This condition usually affects one ear. It can result in tinnitus (ringing in the ear) or permanent loss of hearing if left untreated.
  6. Swimmer’s ear: Swimmer’s ear, also known as otitis externa, is a common condition which is caused in the outer area of the ear. This condition is caused due to remnants of chlorine water in the ear or because of inserting swabs too deep inside the canal. This condition is characterised by earache, discomfort and itching of the ear.

My 2 months baby is not taking her mother milk, please guide how can we give her that?

My 2 months baby is not taking her mother milk, please guide how can we give her that?
Not taking mothers milk means the baby is getting other milk. You have to express the milk and give it with the help of sterile spoon. Do this every 2 hrs. Once the baby like the taste of your milk, he or she will go back to sucking at the nipple which will I turn increase milk secretion.

Two possiblities geographic tongue and other is oral thrush. Most probably it is geographic tongue, in which abnormal shapes appear on tongue but there is no problem with baby. These come and go, NO treatment is required. Oral thrush, there is watering of mouth and difficulty in feeding.

Hi Abdullah... It is not in our hand to change the color of the skin as we please as the Genetics is the major player here... But there are chances that if at the time of conception and during pregnancy if a suitable homoeopathic mediis given the baby will be healthy and with healthy skin color. But still one can try only.

It's quit unusual to have such problem suddenly after 1 yr, usually mother has it during initial phase or maybe if breastfeeding is discontinued for some time and restarted. This seems to be mastitis issue. Take lot of water and paracetamol for fever and pain. Meet gynecologist if you don't have relief after 1 day of this therapy.

. If you keep ice that would help to reduce the pain and feel relaxed and comfortable. You shall also do hot water fermentation that would improve the blood circulation to the painful area and thereby the pain would be reduced.

There is no need to start top milk but mothers milk and home made mashed easily digestible food should be gradually introduced. They are sufficient to meet the nutritional requirement of baby for proper growth and development. Introducing top milk in a breast fed baby at 6 months is MYTH.

If baby is passing urine properly and playful, there should not be any problem. Even then you should get him examined to rule out any trauma and alleviate your apprehension.
