Since the last week or so, I have been constantly having a sour taste on my tongue. This is likely not because of the antibiotics (taken for infected anal aperture gland infection), which were discontinued from the day-before.

•A change in taste may result from dehydration, glossitis, a dry mouth, allergies, salivary glands infections, lack of zinc and vitamin B12, and polyps in the nose. •Others include breathing through the mouth, inflamed upper airways, and autoimmune diseases like Sjogren's syndrome and Bell's palsy. •Some injuries and traumas that cause a bitter taste include head, nerve, mouth and nose injuries, and biting your tongue. •Dental appliances such as braces, any surgery on your ear, nose, teeth or throat, and radiation therapy on your neck or head cause a bitter taste in mouth. •Gargle with water. Brush your teeth, tongue, roof of your mouth, and gums using toothpaste. Rinse your mouth with mouthwash. Drink liquids, chew sugar-free gum or mints, or suck on sour candies. Use plastic utensils if you have taste alteration when eating.

Dear lybrate user, bad braeth can be avoided by cleaning the tongue properly, consult your dentist for getting the decayed teeth treated. Bleeding gums could be due to poor oral hygiene or plaque deposits which do not come off even after brushing so get a professional cleaning/scaling done to relieve the problem of gum swelling.

If the mouth ulcer is causing a lot of pain, gently rub a small ice cube over the spot or rinse your mouth with ice-cold water. You could also chew on a clove bud (lavang) and direct the juice generated to the area where the ulcer is located. Clove buds are a great ingredient to cure sore throat too. To prevent the ulcerated area from getting infected, make it a point to rinse your mouth with a little salt water. Remember, this won’t make the ulcer disappear, but it can help reduce the pain. Honey is a natural humectant. It helps reduce scarring and hastens the process of new tissue growth. This, along with its anti-microbial effect ensures faster healing of the mouth ulcer. Chew a few leaves of tulsi along with some water about three to four times every day. This will help in getting rid of ulcers faster and also have a preventive action against their recurrence. Applying a little coconut oil directly onto the mouth ulcer or chewing some coconut (fresh or dry) helps reduce pain and inflammation and hence, ulcers heal faster. Mix some sugar to crushed khus-khus seeds and consume this mixture for instant relief from ulcers. You could apply a little ghee directly to the ulcerated area, or drink a glass of buttermilk two or three times every day. Mouth ulcers left untreated generally go away in a week or so; with these home remedies, you can expect faster relief. However, if you notice an ulcer in the mouth that is persistently present although it does not cause you any pain, do not neglect it or try to treat it with home remedies beyond a few days. Make it a point to see a doctor soon because often, a painless mouth ulcer is one of the earliest signs of oral cancer.

Naturally our teeth colour ranges from pearly white to pale yellow so everyone cannot hv white teeth. Get scalling n polishing done by dentist. If you r not happy with your teeth shade later, you can get bleaching done by dentist which'll lighten your teeth by 2-3 shades. Alternatively you can use a teeth whitening toothpaste such as snowdent after scalling. Whitening gels used daily along with customized dental trays provided by dentist r also available in the market. Avoid heavily coloured foods, tea n coffee, cool drinks, smoking n tobacco products as they stain teeth.

Hi the doctor may have applied a material over exposed portion of cavith for the formation of secondary dentine. It takes some time. If new dentine will be formed he will fill the cavity permanently. If not then rct will be the option. X-ray is helpful to know about the condition. Quit the habit of gutka as it causes lots of serious conditions like cancer, submucous fibrosis and leukoplakia. For temporary relief from pain you can take ketorol dt 2 tabs dissolved in half cup of water or ibuprofen after meal.

Hi bad breath is accumulation of plaque and tartar on tooth surfaces because of faulty tooth brushing technique. You need to undergo scaling (teethcleaning) and guidance for proper tooth brushing technique. It is not a disease. You need a regular scaling and polishing by dentist followed by proper maintenance on your part. Small spots on teeth can be corrected with tooth coloured fillings.

Bleeding gums can be a sign of early gum disease. She needs to get a professional cleaning of your teeth done to remove any accumulated tartar. This should solve her problem. After that regular day to day care like twice a day brushing and vigorous rinsing after any food will keep your gums and teeth healthy.
