PRP for Hair Loss

MBBS, MD - Dermatology
Dermatologist, Delhi
PRP for Hair Loss

Hair loss is a prime concern for many men and women these days, whether it is genetic, due to stress, bad haircare or any medical condition. But with advances in the field and adequate research, various new techniques have cropped up in the market which can combat the condition with ease. Platelet-Rich Plasma or PRP, is showing impressive results in reversing hair loss.

PRP is a non-surgical therapeutic hair restoration option. It is suitable for both men and women. It is a state-of-the-art, totally natural, alternative medical procedure used for the treatment of hair loss or hair thinning. It is an injectable treatment which uses the patient’s own blood.

PRP has been in use in the medical field for two decades, and offers some promising potential for stimulating hair growth. However, no definitive studies yet exist that confirms its efficacy.

Advantages of PRP Therapy

PRP can be helpful in:

  1. Slowing the rate of hair loss
  2. Regrowing thinning hair to be thicker and full
  3. Boosting the health and condition of the scalp
  4. Stimulating collagen levels
  5. Preparing the scalp for hair transplantation & post hair transplantation

PRP can also assist in the treatment of skin and scalp conditions such as:

  1. Dry, itchy and inflamed scalp
  2. Genetic hair loss
  3. Alopecia areata
  4. Telogen effluvium (commonly caused by stress)

 How PRP Works?

The scalp is cleansed and numbing cream applied. While the scalp is prepared, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient. This blood is then centrifuged to produce the Platelet Rich Plasma. The PRP component is taken from the blood and injected or infused into the scalp or areas of hair loss. Patients are able to resume normal activities after this procedure.

PRP harnesses the growth factors carried in the blood supply and then delivers a concentrated dose back to the affected scalp and hair follicles. The growth factors in the platelets stimulate the follicles to grow hair. The hair follicles in the resting phase (telogen) may be pushed into growth, and this will appear as new hair growth.

Who is a candidate for PRP?
Men or women who have early stages male or female pattern baldness are suitable candidates for PRP.  It is also suitable for men or women who are currently using hair loss medications; or those who are experiencing or expect to experience post-partum hair loss. It is also suitable for those who have had or plan to have hair transplant surgery.

However, you are not a candidate for PRP if you:

  1. Have medical conditions such as chronic liver disease, skin diseases or cancer, metabolic and systemic disorders
  2. Have undergone anti-coagulation therapy
  3. If you have any type of platelet dysfunction syndromes

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Our Daily energy requirements for proper functioning of our body is 1600-2200 K cal of Energy if we want to remain fit and healthy. But there is a misconception that weight is reduced by dieting. But weight is not reduced by only skipping our meals or prohibition from sugars but until we are not aware what are our body energy requirements ,it will be difficult to loose weight. If we restrict ourself from taking daily diet to 1100-1200 Kcalories ,and increases our workouts, only then we can think about reducing our weight and for that we must obtain proper knowledge of exact energy levels in a particular dish we are eating, only then we can achieve our target of reducing weight by means of simple mathematical calculation. You are doing well. You are running half marathon which is a good achievement. Looking into your BMI, your weight is around 5 kg excess. But BMI is not always a good indicator of body fat. Your could be a healthy weight of muscles and bones also. Will be good if you could get your body fat percentage checked. If it is above 20%, only then you need to reduce weight.

The pain relief depends on the condition of the knees and general health and any other aliments if present. You have to choose a system of medicine and take the treatment for some months. The results may vary as each individual is born different with a definite genetic make up. I suggest you to try homeopathy for a few months as it safe and harmless. A detailed history is needed for us to start the homeopathic treatment. You can ask for private consultation with me for further details.

Start taking black til (seasam) with a glass of lukewarm milk early morning. Avoid pickles, spices, oily, greesy food items. Start avle ka murabba. Also have a high protien rich diet e. G. Pulses, dry fruits, black gram, ground nut etc. Also oil your hair with good herbal oil and wash with herbal shamppoo - avoid shampoos with high acid contents. As far as ayurveda's therapy is concerned - start with shirodhara with herbal oil and nasyam therapy for atleast 15 days. This will greatly help. Do gentle massage with herbal hair oil daily night for 15 minutes. Although some herbal medicines might also help you but after proper history taking.

Slim Women, Health & Myths

MPTh/MPT, BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Mumbai
Myth 1: Working out would make me even thinner!

We always have an astonished reaction to this one! Contrary to the myth, when designed properly, workout programmes can help you gain some good weight which is mainly muscle. Who doesn’t want to get stronger?

Myth 2: Lifting weights is going to make me a bulky woman!

Absolutely not! Not if you don’t want to. Designing the programme is the key here. Working out could improve your flexibility, muscular endurance and stamina without causing any muscular hypertrophy / growth.

Myth 3: Why do I need to do weights? I am already in shape!

One of the most common menopausal disorders found in women is OSTEOPOROSIS which is characterized by reduced bone strength. It is commonly seen in the “Fragile/ thin” elderly women. Research shows us, women who lift weights during their 20’s to 30’s are less susceptible to osteoporosis than those who do not. I would say to all those women who believe in this myth, DO IT FOR YOUR BONES, THEY WILL THANK YOU ONE DAY!

Myth 4: I can eat all I want because I am not going to get any fatter!

Unfortunately, this isn’t true. We wish it were, really. But it isn’t. Thinness is a genetic blessing to many but it is still important to eat healthy. Finally it is the cholesterol levels in your blood that will matter and they will be affected due to long term, faulty eating habits irrespective of body structure.

5: My daily chores burn enough energy. I do not need a gym!

American College of Sports Medicine recommends at least 30 minutes of “structured” physical activity on most days of the week for the “general” population. Neither does this definition include our day – to – day physical activity and nor does it differentiate between overweight and slim women.

We would like to conclude by highlighting that fitness is a group of performance attributes! Finally, it all boils down to the ease with which you climb up a flight of stairs or how effortlessly you can lift your own travel bags! Thus, irrespective of body type, structured exercise is a must for all women.

Hii; I am 17 years old boy. I have bright face bt it is going to b dark day by day from the sunlight. And my skin is ...
The first and foremost step to lighten your complexion includes avoiding too much sun exposure.Typically, the skin darkens when exposed to sunlight because it produces a substance, called melanin, to protect itself from the harmful solar radiation. Melanin is the pigment that gives color to our hair, eyes, and skin. And the more melanin your skin makes, the darker your skin becomes. Its also great to use sunscreen every time you go outside. As far as lightening products, you can try creams and soaps that contain kojic acid, glutathione, aplha-arbutin, licorice extract, mulberry extract, and Vitamins C, E, and B3. You may use sebamed sun screen and salicylic acid face wash for oily skin and pimples.

I am 44 years old. I now have been suffering from this problem from past 2 yrs. Every time during sleep (whether day or night) I experience a pain in my stomach and burning sensation too. It is also accompanied by breathlessness. Due to this I have to wake up several time in my sleep and feel suffocated and with burning sensation in stomach.

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
I am 44 years old. I now have been suffering from this problem from past 2 yrs. Every time during sleep (whether day ...
All these are symptoms of acid reflux. The acid in the stomach is pushed into the mouth and can sometimes irritate the upper respiratory pathway and cause suffocated feeling. The reason for burning sensation in stomach is excessive acid in stomach. Some of the remedies suggested are as follows: Do not fill your stomach completely especially during night time when you are going to sleep. Leave some space. Take meals earlier before sleeping. About 1-2 hrs or so. Take frequent small meals throughout the day instead of large ones. Do not leave your stomach empty for long. Try and maintain your eating timings. Do not get stressed with your problem, it will worsen because acid secretion increases on stress. If all the above measures fail, you may have to take medicines on advice and under supervision of your doctor.
