Your medicine is safe & you can take it on daily basis. Your palpitations are due to anxiety only & good to know about your cardiac reports being normal.

The thyroid test results show that she has high tsh levels, it is subclinical hypothyroidism. Presently there is no problem unless she has any symptoms. But she should check her thyroid levels once in 6 months. Also avoid soy beans, soy containing products, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, radish, peanuts, mustard and coffee. Should consume more of green leafy vegetables and fruits. Use whole grain flour for chapati and roti. Exercise daily to avoid weight gain.

Sorry to hear this. Hope ankansha is comfortable. From her age (13), I assume she is atype 1 diabetic. If so, insulin is the only safe (& effective) option for her. Often, type 1 diabetics will have to take multiple shots of insulin daily to get good control & prevent complications. Consult a diabetologist who is familiar with managing type 1 diabetes.

Mr. lybrate-user Kumar, Thanks for the query. When a person is on treatment with adequate dose of Levothyroxine, then TSH values is maintained <3 mU/L, at that all the symptoms of hypothyroidism are in check. Since her TSH is now 6.05 mU/l, symptoms are bound to reappear. So she needs to increase the dose. To calculate the dose following details are needed: T4, & TSH values, weight and height of the patient. Thanks.

Lybrate-user, when hypothyroidism is in good control tsh values should be between 3 to 4 milli units/l. 7 milli units, means there is no proper control. This can lead to reappearance of some of the symptoms. So it is essential to increase the dose to 75 mcg, then after 6 weeks check the tsh level, and if level as mentioned above, then continue the same dose. Thanks.

Your Hypothyroidism is being controlled by Extroxin medicine, hence the weight gain can't be attributed to thyroid problem. Even if thyroid effects it has only about 3-5 percent effect. You need a complete lifestyle and diet counselling. Please consult any dietician in your city and take help to resolve your weight / lifestyle problem. I am writing some general tips which you can follow for better health and lesser weight. >> Add more Fruits /Salads/Proteins to your diet. Double your water intake. One glass every hour..>> Cut down Sweets/Biscuits/ Colas/Juices from your diet..>> Cut down Puris/Parathas/Pizzas/Burgers/Fried Rice..>> Eat slowly and mindfully. Reduce portion size..>> Exercise daily - 'Intense' Cardio for 40-60 mins. This will keep you toned and trim..>> Reduce outside food. Only once a week its permitted..>> Love yourself and respect your body.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query, For patients with hypothyroidism only soy beans and soy containing products are to be avoided. All other foods, fruits and seeds are fine. You can definitely take all those things mentioned. Most important is your TSH should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L to be free from all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Thanks.
