I am 24 years old man. I have a slight fever, tunning nose, cough. What should I do?

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS

Several things can be done to prevent cold: -Always wash your hands after coughing or sneezing into your hands, blowing your nose, after touching someone who is sick, or when using public restrooms or telephones. -Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. -Get plenty of rest/sleep.Avoid people who have a cold or cold symptoms. -Drink plenty of fluids(veg/tomato soups, dal water/coconut water/herbal tea etc), and eat nutritious food(like sprouts/milk). Avoid fatty foods or drinks with caffeine -Treatment: A cold usually lasts for a week or two. Unless you develop complications, you shouldn't need medical treatment. -Gargle to keep from getting a sore throat.Take only lukewarm water to drink during the day -Use saline nasal sprays or nasal irrigation. -Tablet nasorest-p once/twice daily may ease breathing. -Do steam inhalation once or twice daily.

My throat is itching most of the day, more itching at night. I then have difficulty breathing when sleeping.

DORL, MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Faridabad
Itching is basically the dry saliva and mucus of the mouth which is irritating in the mouth and produces itching and irritation, this is the reason could be for the cough without infection in the mouth so first thing you should get thyroid testing done, and than you may need to hydrate up your body because any symptoms of throat comes with symptoms of nose also dear the symptoms you are getting are due to dryness of the mouth, this is because of lack of mucus in the mouth which is protective layer of our mouth, and is being produced in the mouth by glands which will be helped by good and healthy blood supply to the glands, blood with good blood cells will take oxygen to the gland and gland works, they require oxygen in ample of amount, so if you do not take iron diet on daily basis than this will lead to less of mucus production and hence lead to dryness and thick mucus problem, this thick mucus leads to irritation in mouth hence leads to itching in the mouth, start taking good iron diet on daily basis, and shakes, avoid salty and spicy food.

My son has sinus, now he has this condition since childhood, he is now 21 years, he had developed cold on his trip to myanmar and is suffering from same since 5th dec 2015, yes he is careless, I had shown him to my family doctors but nothing much happened, so have shown him to ent on their recommendation as the condition has not improved much even after having antibiotics, he had gudcef, macpod, ambrodil syrup (simple one) given by family docs. Now I have shown him to ent the ent has given him med mahcef xl 200, recofast plus, tab betnelan and nosikind nasal spray, steam inhalation as many times as he can and then nosiking spray as many times as he can. His nose is completely blocked and because he is mouth breathing his throat is also dry, as per him whatever he is eating the taste comes in the nose, I am quite worried as this has been going on for last 4 months. I do want opinions. I have been out of station for a while and not very sure weather the medicines given by family docs who are md medicine have been taken by him or not, but the medicines given by ent yesterday I am personally monitoring it. He has just now taken only 2 doses. He drinks and smokes also. Please advise. I am in delhi dwarka, shall I continue with the same doc and medicines. xray have also been done. Sir / Madam wax formation in my left ear is very high. This is too high that after a gap of approx two months my left ear become block & also very less audible. Then I am using " wax rid" liquid. It also takes 15-20 days for wax removal. please suggest something that this wax formation should be minimum. Please tell.

DORL, MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Faridabad
Wax is nothing but the peeled off skin of ear canal, those who have cleaning habbit of ears by themselves repeatedly, they will have lots of peeled skin in the ear canal and this is how they have wax formation in high quantity so avoid cleaning your ears repeatedly and this will help in future also as cleaning buy your self might injure your ears

I feel a lump in the throat but don't have any trouble swallowing food. Sometimes I feel a pinching or needling mild sensation in the left or right side of the throat. I smoke very less I.e. 1-2 cigarettes a day and chew pan masala with tobacco once a day generally. Should I be worried about getting cancer or any affect due to my habits? If yes what tests should I get done and whom should I consult?

MBBS, MD - Radiothrapy
Oncologist, Navi Mumbai
Few things that you should consider 1. Stop smoking and tobacco chewing completely. 2. Consult your physician regarding lump. If it is rapidly increasing or causing voice or breathing difficulties thn it is more likely due to cancer.

I think you should get a ct scan done bcz there may be underlying nasal polyps that will require surgery. Review with report. By the time you can start flomist nasal spray 2 puffs twice a day and steam inhalation.

I am 34 years Female went for Stepdotomy of left ear for Treating osteoclorisis, but after two months of surgery, half of the tongue is taste less, is it normal or it will take time to recover or is it an error occurred during surgery?

ECFMU, MS - ENT, MBBS, Certificate in Pediatric Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Robotic Surgery Familiarization (France)
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Gurgaon
It may happen due to injury to chorda tympani nerve. Based on difficulty of surgery some times this nerve has to be sacrificed in which case it may not recover. How ever if it was preserved only stretching of nerve happened, the chances of recover are good.
