Hello lybrate-user. Conjunctivitis may occur due to various causes. Let me enumerate them in brief: (1) allergy (2) bacterial infection (3) viral infection (4) fungal infection (5) systemic conditions based on the cause for your conjunctivitis, it would be a better idea to prescribe you treatment. Still, as a broad spectrum, use the following: (a) tobramycin eye drops 4 times in a day. (b) lubricant eye drops every 2 hours. (c) keep washing your eyes thoroughly. Maintain eye hygiene.

I have been suffering from RP problem which is the eye disease and it is from my childhood. Can anyone help me?
We are working in this disease since long time and find some good result in most of the patients. As per you know rp is noncurable disease and gradually diminishes the vision until complete blindness and family history is also positive in most of the cases. Our researches show most of the case stop the regular loss of vision and up to 25-30% improvement depending upon the stages of diseases

Hello. There is no medication or food for improving eye sight or to get rid of glasses. Get your vision tested and wear glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser your number will not increase now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.

My eye sight is getting weaker day by day? What should I do to improve my eye sight?
Hello Mr. Lybrate-user, you can prevent further weakening of your eyesight by eating foods which are good for your eyes eg. Fishes rich in omega 3 fatty acids, fish oil supplements, flax seeds, citrus fruits, nuts, green leafy vegetables along with carrots n papaya. Along with nutrition certain eye exercises also help to a great extent if done consistently. Regatds

Hello Doctor, I am having night vision problems while walking on the road or while watching TV. What type of food can...
Hello lybrate-user. Night vision problem has various causes associated with it: (1) deficiency of vitamins- vitamin a deficiency, specifically, in young children may lead to night blindness. Prompt dietary modification and administration should be of help. (2) congenital defect: retinitis pigmentosa, heredomacular degeneration, congenital stationary night blindness are a few of the disorders that are present from birth/ childhood that could lead to night blindness. These should be assessed and treated accordingly. There are a few treatment options such as dietary supplements, low vision aid devices, genetic counseling therapy that might have some benefit in for the same. (3) raised intra-occular pressure may at times caused reduced vision at night time/ low illumination. This would be easily detected when undergoing checkup by an eye specialist. (4) certain other infectious conditions may also cause night blindness. (5) cataract: certain types of cataract can cause difficulty in night vision. Thus, simple removal might help in resolving the issue. Thus, my suggestion for you would be to undergo a thorough eye evaluation by a retina specialist and then follow the therapy suggested by him/her. Let me enumerate the diet necessary for healthy eyes. (1) green leafy vegetables including spinach, sprouts, cabbage, beetroot. (2) fruits-blue-berries, black-berries, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi fruit, grapes, pineapple, pomegranate, grapes, guava. (3) dry-fruits: almonds, walnuts, apricots, dates. (4) cereals: oats, barley, millets. (5) drink a cup of green tea daily. (6) drink a glass of milk daily. Hope my suggestions help you. Take care.

Namaste Happy Holi. I have been using this eyedrops ( I-Kul Plus) for 2-3 times daily from last 3-4 years and continue to do so. Is it ok ? My eyes turn red when I smoke, so I have to use it. :) Thank you for help.

Phaco Development Program, Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology, DNB Ophtalmology, MBBS

I-Kul plus contaions Phenylephrine which must not be used for very long periods. Continued use of any eye drops without indication is harmful as the preservatives used can also cause harm. I would not suggest using this for prolonged periods.

It seems that she has stye in her eyelid, which is a type of infection in small glands present in upper eyelids. To know the treatment, you need to send us photo of it; to know what is its status (whether it is completely developed or not).

My eyes is darkling red when I on long drive with drink all my friends are same what I do?

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
My eyes is darkling red when I on long drive with drink all my friends are same what I do?
First and foremost, stop drinking and driving simultaneously! it would be hazardous for you and your friends. Next, coming to your question, redness of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few common causes: (1) allergy of the eye. It is usually caused by improper eye hygiene. There is a tendency to rub the eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. This is not a good habit because it tends to transmit lots of virus, bacteria and dust into the eye. Allergy usually presents with symptoms of watering (clear water), redness and itching of the eye. (2) infectious conjunctivitis: this is usually associated with white-yellowish discharge. If so, it would be a good idea to go and show to an eye specialist in person. (3) foreign body lodged in the eye. This is more commonly associated with people who drive 2 wheeler vehicles without protection. It occurs more commonly in one eye. Foreign bodies that commonly get lodged are eyelashes, insect wings, small insects, dust particles, iron particles (more common with people working in the iron industry) the solution for a foreign body lodged in the eye would be better provided by an eye specialist at the clinic. (4) raised intraocular pressure: this is a condition known as glaucoma. It is not so common as the previous mentioned conditions. There is usually associated pain in the eyes. It is commonly bilateral (occurs in both eyes). There is usually a positive family history of glaucoma associated in a majority of the cases. (5) inflammation of the coats of the eyeball. This is known as" uveitis" it is also a relatively less common condition. There is associated pain. It would require a thorough eye checkup including the retina-thus a good idea would be to visit the eye specialist in person. From the symptoms described by you, it seems more likely to be a case of allergy. Maintaining the precautions and hygiene that I mentioned should probably work well for you. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care.
